I've just discovered Red Dwarf, but I can honestly say that I've found a treasure, I've known about the series for years, but I've never actually seen a episode till now 😂👍👍👍👍
I love Barrie's impressions, he's a master of it. I've never, though, quite understood the script decision at 0:51 to have him impersonate a character we've never met...
It's to set up the actual moment of him impersonating the others, have you think he's just random impersonations before seeing him mimicking the other Dwarfers on the spot
Thank you! I just wish all Dwafer's could see it the same way. It wasn't perfect, but it was Red Dwarf. After ten years, be greatful that thery're doing anything at all. ~
the impressions are brilliant- especially the second lister one. only one thing- is it just me who think the first lister one is Scottish not, you know, lister? Because I hear Scottish every time!!
oh i miss watchin red dwarf... used to be on well late... was awesome sittin in bed, tray of food watchin this on tv. we should bug them to put it back on damn it XD x
I agree with those people saying that the new episodes should have had the laughter, even if it had to be canned rather than shown to an audience. It just seemed too serious without. And I wouldn't write off all of series 7 - I'm not a fan of Kochanski in it, but before that the JFK episode and return of Ace Rimmer in particular were awesome. Oh, and the little singing Rimmers in Blue, lol :)
I love that episode too. My favourite bit is when Kryten says "According to my histo-chip, the gunman was found in the Texas Book Repository" and then the shocked double-take he does at the boxes right behind him that read "Texas Book Repository" is just AMAZING... every time he does that double-take I crease up laughing, it's just perfect android surprise!
They could have used a bit of continuity in this way: When Rimmer enters speaking in a high-pitched voice, Lister says he has turned into Brannigan, the ship's psychiatrist. In season 8, the ship's chief psychriatric officer's name is Dr. McLaren. Interestingly enough, Dr. McLaren speaks in a high-pitched voice and sounds similar to Rimmer's version of Dr. Brannigan. Perhaps Dr. McLaren was the chief of the psychiatrists and Dr. Brannigan worked under him, but it would have made more sense to have called Dr. McLaren by Dr. Brannigan, to keep with continuity.
+Michael Hambrook The "new" chief psychiatric officer's (Dr. McLaren) was created by the nanobots, along with Red Dwarf, creating a version according to the original plans before cutbacks by JMC. The psychiatric officer could have been replaced after those plans were made, hence two different ones.
+peloquin yeah like the whole Rimmer light bee idea can be explained by saying the timeline changes in timeslides made him a more high tech hologram as he died at a later point where a light bee was made
There may have been more than one ships psychiatrist. He was actually doing an impression on one of the studio ppl, I forget the name, who stuck his neck out to get RD made.
funny that he impersonates the cat when his personality wouldn't have been on file on the ship to be able to be accidentally loaded by rimmer... unless he is literally just spazzing and doing impressions without any kind of choice or thought
@lonerider1985 They certainly do the best punch lines, my favourite is the one where they set off the self destruct by ordering a milk shake and a toffee crisp, that joke has the best punchline ever.
But you're forgetting; in Quarantine Rimmer said that Lister was the only registered crew member. To quote the episode directly (cos I'm a massive nerd): Rimmer: Space Corps directive 597 clearly states “One berth per registered crew member.” And as Listy is the only registered crewmember, one berth is all you get. So Cat would've been an unofficial Red Dwarf crew member, if what you're saying is true, but he still wouldn't have a hologram disc.
Funnily enough, that was the first thing I noticed too... The cat's personallity had never been recorded so, Rimmer's impersonation might have been a reflection of his experiences -played back when his light-bee was repairing. Also, he impersonated Holly, Holly was never supposed to be a hologram, however, it would seem, the personality was logged if Holly ever needed to become a hologram... Weird.
To be honest, I've never seen the problem with Season 7. Even if, yeah, if Kochanski is annoying, that didn't put too much of a dent on any of the episodes. Didn't actually make them BAD. But yeah the first two episodes were still the best. :D Really well thought-out. And Ouroboross.
I still think the best moment in Red Dwarf is in the JFK episode, when they find the dead guy. Later that night, they're eating some meat and he Cat says "this is good chicken!" Kryten:"thats not chicken sir" Cat: "well, what is it?" Kryten "its that man we found" O_O.......
It was okay. I don't think it was anywhere near as good as the original series (except 7&8 - they were worse than B2E) as I actually MISSED the canned laughter. It was part of Red Dwarf and it felt empty without it. I probably sound strange, but it's true. I DID, however, prefer it without Kochanski, and it was really interesting to see Lister actually have EMOTIONS!! :o! Good trio of episodes, but I prefer the old series. Still love them, though, and I'm glad they did it after 10 years. :)
One thing I don't understand: how could Rimmer have turned into the Cat when the Cat doesn't have a hologram disc? The hologramatic suite was damaged so I can understand Holly because he's the computer that keeps it working and Lister because he was a crew member so presumably had a disc, but Cat's neither part of the computer nor a registered crew member... Odd...
@jeibear I know, but I just love winding people up and getting a respone on here. I lived in America for some years back in the sevennties, and while things may be different now, I appreciate that a wide pond and nearly 300 years of history seperate us, but I realise that while there are some things you do well, there are some things we do well. Patently, capping oil well leaks is not one of the things WE do well. Have a nice day :-)
@jeibear @jeibear While I am here, have you noticed that on America's next top model, that MISS JAY (what is that?) with his basin haircut and dickie bow tie is a dead ringer for Dwayne Dibley. Or am I hallucinating fro msucking on my old piece of roap that has been soacked in iol from that big leak I hear about. I do not watch this, by the way, my grandaughter loves it, and well, bless her, she is only 8 but wants to be a supermodel. Bless
They are not making a ninth series but they are making an easter special this year (it will be aweful cus they're all in their 40s and craig charles has had 2 much crack to act again, tht is why hes doing tht crappy soap)
@TheWonderfulWombat Oh gods how revolting. It's like when there's dog poo on the pavement and I keep looking as I walk past even though I feel sick. Then I notice the undigested bits of food, the heave-worthy yellow/brown colour and the fact that someone has trodden and smeared it half-way down the road. I can never watch this clip again now.
If you like this then get the audio book of Red Dwarf read by Chis Barrie (Rimmer), he does all the voices.
Oh really? :D That's cool :D
I didn't know that was a thing. I'll check it out
They’re very good as well.
His impersonation of the CAT is just spot on !
Hey, now he's me!
Chris Barrie does such GREAT impressions. :-)
His Lister impression is dead on. :)
Well he was in Spitting Image
Its Arnold Arnold Arnold Rimmer without him life would he much grimmer!
He's never been mistaken for Yul Brinner
He's not bald and his head doesn't glimmer!
He is so good impersonating lister.
"What, this one over ere?"
"What, this one over ere?"
Yeah that one
Yeah that one
Chris Barrie/Rimmer always makes me cry with laughter :)
Chris is epic at impressions and perfect at Lister xD
i think chris barries acting is brill at this bit none better
Well, this clip shows one thing: Chris Barrie is a great impersonator and actor. Kudos!
0:41 "Wait for me! me! me! me! me! me! me!"
Daniel Williamson Nazi late for the Hitler parade

we do get to seemingly see the character he was impersonating in S8
Craig did his own stunts for this scene. As he said, "A Scouser can drop on my head with no problems."
The cat became a red dwarf crew member in "Kryten" to account for a new Non-crew member aboard, to allow Holly to track them both more efficiently.
Thank you, that’s bothered me for decades lol
RIMMER IS BRILLIANT!!!!!!!
Got to me one of my all time favourite punchlines.
Oh Arnold Rimmer, how I love thee......
Thank you! I just wish all Dwafer's could see it the same way. It wasn't perfect, but it was Red Dwarf. After ten years, be greatful that thery're doing anything at all.

Sounds really close to Lister to me, definitely a Scouse accent he's doing and not Scottish
@@CometAura The actor Craig Charles that Lister was originally from Liverpool if it's any help 😁
@@LeanneVlogzFilmz I am aware
me too, i missed series 2 first time out and only recently saw it on netflix - rimmer as the cat is hilarious!!
Apparently Craig Charles asked if he actually sounded like that and everyone said "yes!'
oh i miss watchin red dwarf... used to be on well late... was awesome sittin in bed, tray of food watchin this on tv. we should bug them to put it back on damn it XD x
"Uuuum.... has anyone seen my legs?" Ahaha!!!
Chris Barrie also did voices for Spitting Image.
...or is it the yellow cable? 😂😂😂
This is by far the best show ever
That guy is a legend! I laughed so hard! X
HE'S ONTO US LADS!! RUN FOR IT!!
I agree with those people saying that the new episodes should have had the laughter, even if it had to be canned rather than shown to an audience. It just seemed too serious without.

or is it the yellow cable ??? love it lol
Chris sounded like Craig Charles
Eeeeeeeextraordinary!!!
If you had the Red Dwarf audiobooks you had Chris doing all the voices
Chris does Holly so well, genius.
Have you seen the entire lower half of my body? Or maybe my spine?

Red Dwarf is full of continuity errors but there are usually some way to explain them.

McLaren was the ship's psychiatric counselor, not the psychiatrist.
There may have been more than one ships psychiatrist. He was actually doing an impression on one of the studio ppl, I forget the name, who stuck his neck out to get RD made.

Cat: That was a very dumb thing you just did.
Wait for me me me me!
They only needed Chris Barrie.
I'd like to know too Rimmer...
wouldn't he also become the rest of the dead crew? "Holly, is this Petersen's arm? Ive got the arm of a Danish moron..."
AHHHHHHH! Hey now hes me!
But you're forgetting; in Quarantine Rimmer said that Lister was the only registered crew member.

I think Rimmer was just being as big of an asshole as possible in that episode.
yes, i think it should have been the yellow one.
Peter Risdale Scott at 0:58!!
Brannigan got me laughing

They are already making a 9'th series. Bobby has already said that he's read the script and it is "Fucken Funny".

There's a reason he read the audio books.

@blagger56 LOL...*high five* I like you!

The episode is "Queeg" - Season 2 Episode 5.

Wow now.
Series 2 yes
Queeg Yes
Episode 6?? NO.
its episode 5,
episode 6 is parallel universe
classic episode
SO much better without the crappy effects they put in later versions.
1:53 Why does the hologram simulation suite have a personality profile of the Cat in the first place? He's technically not a registered crew member.
Ship records everyone, woman.
