This is more straightforward for me than it seems to be for many people. The clone Rimmer is the one with the nastiest, far more vicious attitude. The original Rimmer at least had human moments. As far as I can tell, Lister selects the original Rimmer to be wiped but then wipes the clone - he knew the difference.
The editing and acting is so good you do actually believe there's two Rimmers. The way the scenes cut just before one walks in front of the other, and the occasional double when you can only see the back of one.
This whole episode went to fantastic lengths to establish the insanity that is the mind of Arnold J. Rimmer. Guy's neurosis are so deep that he can't even tolerate a clone of himself. The next scene in the drive room goes even further to show how much Rimmer really loathed himself. Before Lister gave him the boot, the other Rimmer was literaly bouncing in place and absolutely giddy at the prospect of watching his own execution. In a later season the crew ends up on a "psy moon" that reshapes itself to reflect a person's subconscious and mental state. Locking onto Rimmer, the moon turned into a depressing swamp filled with physical manifestations of all his negative emotions with his Self-Loathing Beast reigning supreme. In my opinion, the drive room scene from this episode did an even greater job showcasing how much Rimmer hated himself in a fraction of the time with a fraction of the budget.
'Allowed' is a strong word. There's no smoking signs all over their quarters, yet that doesn't stop Lister. It didn't stop him when it was a proper mining ship, so it definitely doesn't stop him 3 million years into deep space when the human race is all but extinct.
The original Rimmer who mentions the other one changing their paint colour is the one who goes to to back and makes finger puppet V's, but then when Lister says they gotta go, the one who's sitting at the front of the theatre is suddenly the original one.
Ah but how do we know that wasn't the second rimmer in the scene where he's painting, particularly since in that scene he gets confused with the shades of grey!
He had a hard light bee from the sixth series. Before then, I recall times where Rimmer interacted with some environments as if he wasn’t a hologram and the H on his forehead was just for show.
Because he's just projected onto the chair, the same way he doesn't go through the floor and walls. Someone could sit in the same chair as him and occupy the same space.
I'm like that at the cinema. I hate it when people talk, or check their phones during the movie. N there should be a law against' letting rude mouthy teenagers into the screens. 📽🎞🤬😡😡😡
The fact that Cat actually has his own loudspeaker for such purposes! 😂😂😂
I only just realised that's Tony Hawks as the voice of the restaurant ad.

In its own paradoxical way, it makes for real Rimmer to be capable of being bullied even by an exact replica of himself.
I still want a feature length Mugs Murphy film
And who DOESN'T?
I actually bought a Mugs Murphy t-shirt 5 years back, easily one of my favorite shirts.
Same, I want a Mugs Murphy film and a film about Pudge and Grundy from the opening of Mrs Doubtfire
Still my favorite sci-fi comedy of all time!Just such a shame that the video quality was so poor for so many episodes.
That's Citizen Kane how I remember it anyway.

I don't believe it, I'm being ippy-dippied to death

remember when people thought you would still be able to smoke in cinemas in the future?

Some Random Guy yeah but there's a smoking section in the theatre
Remember when you could smoke anywhere ... how times have changed
@@bungle0h521 For the better
@@somerandomguy2073 actually those signs belong to rimmer.
That “ipy dipy to death” cracks me up 😄

I always thought the Rimmer who walks into the cinema first is the second Rimmer. It is quite confusing this episode though.
There was a deleted section of the scene which makes it clearer, not sure why they cut it though
@@KRPTV we know for sure that the first rimmer to come in the cinema is the original rimmer since he talks about his clone undoing his paint work.
Ah but how do we know that wasn't the second rimmer in the scene where he's painting, particularly since in that scene he gets confused with the shades of grey!
@@KRPTV Rimmer doesn't get confused by the colour, Lister gets confused that the two colours look identical.
This is the funniest scene ever 😂, Arnold Rimmer x 2 😂😂😂 so many epic moments.
Enjoy the finest Tandoori cuisine at one fifths gravity, just a short spacewalk from this cinema.
Love that line
This is a great parody of the "Pearl and Dean" crummy local adds they used to show in cinemas back in the day.
Hello!! What do you think of Arnold Rimmer?
*blows raspberries*
So, in other words, a poncy git! Ha ha ha ha!!
2:17 Lol
love Rimmer ... )))

0.23 is what I'm like when my husband constantly goes on about Star Wars. Love this scene 😊
your husband sounds like a great man then
+Andrew53670-Nico Robin Lol try living with him. His obsession with SW drives me up the smeggin' wall lol.
Sarah Quince so what's so bad about that, let him talk about what he loves, that's how you can be a good lover back
Lister: where's your wife 😂😂😂😂😂
Souper!
Auto-generated subtitles were bang on, this time; Kachzansky = catch a squeeze
The original Mauler Twins.
Only rimmer could fight with himself
Rimmer ! ,, LOL
Rimmer's such a Karen, hahaha!
How was Rimmer able to sit down on the chairs if he didn't have a light bee at this stage?
Komic Klepto I think he always had the light bee, he just hadn't been upgraded to hard light.

Just one Chris Barrie, and lots of green cloth ;-)

Are you really thinking about continuity in this show? LOL
