  • The M-line is a heritage streetcar system in Dallas, Texas that operates along McKinney Avenue, Cole Avenue, and St. Paul street. And it's the only system that operates in the middle of the street in a historically correct fashion. The 4 mile loop takes riders through the heart of Uptown Dallas, and into the Arts District along original Trolley routes opened as early as 1888. Reopened in 1989, the M-line runs a variety of equipment from around the world. 369(Matilda) hails from the far off city of Melbourne, Australia, while little 636(Petunia) grew up right here in Dallas. With stops at almost every block along the route it's easy to hop on or off anywhere, and enjoy the sites and sounds of the Arts District, Uptown, and Downtown Dallas. The M-line is within walking distance of some of the finest restaurants in the city, or the country for that matter. Simply ask your friendly motorman(the guy driving) for advice on where to eat, shop, or hang out. He'll be happy to help. Otherwise, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.

I'm from Boston, where we still have a kind of trolley called a "light rail vehicle" or LRV. It is in no way as charming as these old beautiful vintage trolleys. Long ago, in the 1930's and 1940's we did have the traditional, now called "vintage" trolley cars. Now these are in the Seashore Trolley Museum up in Maine. That is a great place to visit; you can ride the trolleys around the area and see and learn alot about different types of trolleys from around the world. It is alot of fun for the whole family during the spring, summer and fall.

Rosie is a blast from the past, not too much advertising on her, vintage all the way.

A turntable is odd for trolley cars. I wonder why they didn't build a simple loop, which would allow for much faster turnarounds. (Nice Guy Lombardo & Royal Canadians record of the The Trolley Song, btw)

Matilda is my favorite, not too much advertising on her, she is a big and commanding streetcar.

Petunia has too much advertising on her, it doesn't look so good. It doesn't allow one to see the beautiful old woodwork on her and the old world charm of the trolley.

True but because of its length it is used for rush hours.
