- Newfoundland is well known for its long harsh winters, which means having a source of heat and energy is mandatory. Its fall of the year so that means it is time to get prepared and top up the firewood supply. Once all the work is done I meet up with my friend Shane, and together we head out the bay on the salt water in boat. Stopping on an island to inspect how the Moose population is doing and Shane shares some Moose hunting secrets of his own.

@@skoteoutdoors Might be a good idea for a second channel. Keep your channel you have obviously and just create a second channel for the "extended" version and just see how well it goes over.

Just wondering, why not trying building a masonry mass woodstove? Masonry mass stoves can hold more wood at a time…
The similar but moveable Rocket stove…Liberator makes ship-able rocket stoves that can even have a pellet bin attached for a 16 hour burn-those can heat a 2000 s.f. house, so, sure could heat a small cabin at extreme cold. Those batch-burn small amounts of wood, like sticks, fallen branches…or pellets….these units take up similar footprint as usual woodstove, but much more efficient.
Masonry mass stoves use up more real estate, but can be incorporated into the structure as part of the central supports.
Both use way less firewood-can even just burn gathered branches (olden days, kids got sent out to gather fallen branches)….but they store lots more BTUs for many hours after fire goes out, can make a hot bench mass to sit or sleep on, can build-in an oven & cook top, so don’t have to use purchased gas….it’s more work, needs stones & mortar, but lasts long time.
Nice benefit: if you want to keep cabin less noticeable from afar, there’s barely any smoke, if any visible, from either kind….they beat any other woodstove hands-down, & give even very efficient gas burners some stiff competition.
