Hi Sue! One thing about the damage to the area, is that Paris took many bombings during the German occupation, so it isn't vandals who did damage, but the bombs! I could make out some shrapnel damage to some of the structures.
I looked up the domed Mausoleum and found one small photo of the interior, and it looked magnificent!
The Mausoleum with the woman guarding the door, there are stairs going down to the lower level, and the floor is glass blocks to allow light to get down there too!
Such a huge and historic cemetery! It could take years to see it all!
thanks for that! also, a thing i think happened which confuses young metal detectorists finding droplets of aluminum scattered across fields in Europe....the stock footage that's been used ad nauseum in film and television, most notably 12 O'clock High is of a B17 going down burning, melting. the deaths of an aircrew have cycled for years as entertainment.
@@harridan. Yes, too many take television too seriously!
Honestly years ?
@@fionagreenwood3231 There are so many things to see, and once you start seeing some of it, you will want to stop and learn more about the things you are seeing, and it all adds up in time, that you really need so much time, that it could take many lifetimes to learn all you get interested in, so you have to get selective in what you want to learn about!
Once I started to learn about teaching myself about what interested me, it overwhelmed me as a young man, that I was very depressed, until I met an old man who knew what I was struggling with, that he was able to show me how to filter all of the things I was interested in, into things that would benefit what I had as a life goal, which really helped me to trim the interests down to a few that made it manageable.
So I have had a very interesting time going through life, and even when things went 'wrong', like being fired from a job of 36 years, I did not feel loss, but I was able to transition into a new life, without any feelings of loss or bitterness. I am doing new things, and the person who fired me is struggling with the loss!
And I am using the lessons of life to continue learning new things!
G,V and your self are the best keep up the good work thanks
Thanks so much ❤️
Beau Travail comme d'habitude🔬🍀🌌Vive La France😉Alex🙏
Thanks Alex ❤️
Simply amazing to see and walk through. It is so big it never gets old! My favorite part are the thousands of mini-masoleums; you can rarely find a duplicate. I think the French have it over everyone else, they have such class. XO ♥️🙏
I agree, it's definitely one of the most amazing places I've seen
It's so sad when these get so old they begin to crumble and when they get vandalized. But beautiful cemetery and most definitely beautiful stained glass windows.
I loved the stained glass, so beautiful
What a beautiful cemetery! I have never heard of this one. Thank you for doing this vid! From ohio USA ❤
My pleasure, it is absolutely huge and every inch beautiful
This must be one of the biggest cemeteries I've ever seen. So unique in its own way. Thank you so much Miss Sue for sharing.

I love this cemetery so much history
Like a crowded city!! Amazing. When you said it creeps me , it really creeps me out 😮. Thanks for tour! Glad you two enjoyed your trip!
Thanks Liz x x 😘
Even in death, there are neighbors!
@@lisaannpennington3958 just hope they are quiet!
@@Liz_678 Amen 🙏 to that! No rowdy ghosts throwing wild parties!
It is a crowed city of the dead.
The sculptures are just magnificent! The pin point details are superb, but to have your spot reserved? Guess that’s one way to make sure to be put there. Tc and stay safe always.
Thank you ❤️
Merci beaucoup,,
Merci ❤️
Incredible place and those statues !!! I can feel love emanating from this cemetary. x
It is the most beautiful cemetery I've ever seen

Thanks for this tour and what a cemetary. Thanks for all the information on its history.
Glad you enjoyed it
Thank you both again i do appreciate all the hard work you put into looking up their history i find it fascinating, take care both
Our pleasure Hazel 🙏
At the entrance of the Lagarde - Gueret family vault, there is a hooded female gatekeeper who guards the tomb. The glazed sculpture and gate are one which swings open inwards. Inside a small spiral staircase leads to the family vault below. That is where you saw the drop on the left side when you looked inside.
Yes and I would have loved to get in there ❤️
I love the stone road/walkway and old mausoleums. Thank you.
Me too, it's so beautiful
This is how all cemeteries' should be worldwide..to honor the dead....love brick pathways
I completely agree, it's so beautiful
My favorite Oscar Wilde quote is: "It is better to be talked about, then not talked about at all." This is my new favorite cemetery even though I have never been there.
Yes, it sure is an amazing place, I loved it
Impressive cemetery, these monuments and mausoleums are beautiful. That one mausoleum, I think the lower section where the remains are collapsed on itself.
That is sad to see. That one huge mausoleum with the steps going up to the doors, I would love to see the inside. Great walking tour Sue, thank you very much. Take care. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
@@SerenitySueGraveyardsI very much did. Thank you very much for getting back to me.
Seems like some of this was in an earlier vlog. Great nonetheless. So much to take in.
It is but I wanted to put it together as one as I think it deserved it thanks 😊
It’s amazing the different designs of each of these mausoleum’s. This place is huge! Thank you for letting us see how many beautiful places there are in this world 🙏
Thank you ❤️
That was awesome to see this beautiful cemetery.
Glad you enjoyed it I absolutely adored it here
So beautiful and awesome ❤. Thank you for. Sharing ❤.
You are so welcome
Wahoo, another video:)
Thanks Donall ❤️
@@SerenitySueGraveyards your welcome boss:)
Sue, once again your skill as a guide of everything funereal had me totally enthralled in this explore of Pere' Lachaise, so many grand monuments & tributes in one of the most beautiful settings in Paris, even in death Oscar Wilde is still imposing. Heartfelt Thank's for this tour de force, I shall re watch at my leisure, I missed so much the first time, You have great presence when videoing that I feel as though I'm almost there with you on scene, also you convey a tangible sense of calm & indeed serenity, excellent viewing...
Thanks so much, I have a few videos from Paris all equally beautiful
That place is amazing! ❤
Gina, it is, as we say in Ireland, that's unreal!!!
Thank you Sue great vlog.
You are so welcome
Very beautiful cemetery. Thanks for the walk through.
Glad you enjoyed it
The cemetery goes on and on ....amazing. ❤❤😊😊
You could spend a week here and still not see it all
My Dad was in WWII and he mention the beautiful cemeterys' and the beautiful cathedral s in Germany...he was worried with all the bombings by Allies and Germany the destruction
Yes that sure was a possibility during war, thanks for the information x x
Could be a pain in the glass.
Absolutely 💯 😋
Watching again. Like you said it would take video after video to cover it all. I do find it very exquisite elegant and crowded. I really enjoyed the visit and walk again. Blessings to you you guys.❤😊❤😊
Thanks so much ❤️
Wow...imagine being able to visit your own grave? ...this place is simply breath taking...thankyou❤
Glad you enjoyed it
I just love the litter boy sat on the grave
Me too, I thought it was so precious
Absolutely beautiful. I hope you guys know how much we appreciate you. Thank you!
Yes we do and we appreciate yous too 💖
Great job!!
Thanks so much ❤️
How long do they wait before they get a spot?
this was a wonderful tour thankyou ❤
Thanks Julia ❤️
There is no date of death because she lives for evermore or to show that a person's memory is eternal. Such a beautiful idea and such a stunning lady.
Yes, very, very beautiful
One can spend many many hours in here with it’s rich history and beautiful statue’s and family graves
Oh for sure, it's so interesting
Thank you for the most interesting story of this poor young woman. Hoping she will be at rest soon... Seems like she was out and about when her visage was witnessed along with that of her mother. I'm from Tubac, Az. Have a good winter and spring to follow. 😊
Thank you, looking forward to spring but already I have seen signs of it x
🙆🏻♀️hi Sue
Hi Nancy x x
Love it when you go off the main paths.
That's where the forgotten ones are and sometimes the nicest
Wish I would have gone there when I was in Paris. We to many in New Orleans though. It's below sea level so all the Graves are above ground. During Catarina hurricane many were destroyed. With Bait royal coffinsfloting away.😢
I'd heard that so sorry that happened, I don't think anyone will forget hurricane Catherina 💔
Been there twice. Tons of famous people there. Oscar wilde, chopan, jim morrison, gertrube steinn alice toklaas....many more.
Yes, we were able to find a few famous people here, it was a great experience
Jim Morrison lived in Melbourne Florida were I lived for many years. We graduated from the same high school.
No way, now that's cool
You should travel to Genoa in Italy where one of the largest and most spectacular cemeteries in the world is located - the Staglieno cimitero monumentale - the statues in that cemetery ARE TO DIE FOR !!! Pun intended!Particularly beautiful is the one of an young angel which even appeared on the cover of a music album!
How amazing, thank you 😊
I mean this is what we all must do,but this place is so beautiful your blessed to spend eternity here
I agree, I'd love to have a magnificent memorial for everyone to stop and see it's beauty
Not sure I've heard of a waiting list to buried in a certain place. I was looking at your merch. Can you tell me what/who the Morty merch is. Thank you 😊
Morty is our mascot he's a skeleton and comes on our lives
@@SerenitySueGraveyards Thank you 😊
Hi Sue! Could you explain in a video…..? I would love to know….what is a crypt versus vault? Where the bodies are in these slim looking mausoleums? I get confused over the different designs and their names and functions…. I understand the ones in NewOrleans USA but not so much these ones in Europe….thank you!
Not much difference really, a vault goes deep under ground for family, crypt is really very similar. In the mausoleums here, the bodies are underground
Biggest iv ever seen..wow I'd be lost in here fir days. Amazing
Oh I got lost lol
HI SU, I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS ❤ WHICH SOME OF THE I HAVE VISITED OVER THE YEARS WHICH BRING BACK HAPPY MEMORIES…
MY FAMILY ORIGINALLY FROM VIENNA IN AUSTRIA, SU HAVE YOU EVER BEEN TO THE CENTRAL CEMETERY ZENTRALRIEDHOF IN VIENNA ? MANY THANKS MARILYN XXX
I haven't, the only places I've been lucky to visit were in London, Paris and all over Ireland where I'm based x x x thank you
It is an easy place to get lost. No two monuments are alike yet after a couple of hours they all start looking alike.
I got lost so many times but I kind of liked staying away from crowd's when I could and I love finding ones off the main path too
the grave with the nun some people may call it a veiled madona
Thank you
Must be hundreds of bodies there
For sure Hazel
I wonder about the Mausaleums and tombs, etc with bad damage , roped off, if no funds left to fix them, who pays for the repair. There must be quite a few and more coming up???
I actually don't know, I heard that they can evict the bodies out of the mausoleums if no perpetual care is given
Sue: l'institution Nationale Des Jeunes Aveugles on the beautiful tomb with the lady with the veil over her face, translates to The National Institution for Blind Youth. I'm assuming the veil represents their blindness.
Thank you so much, that makes perfect sense, thanks for information
Why would women kiss the glass? its dirty don't know what is on the glass
I'm actually not sure, I didn't even touch it but prior to the glass going in they kissed the stone
❤
Thanks ❤️
Sue, do you know if the doors are opened intermittently or always left open?
I think most are just left open
Always wanted to go there. Please send me a link to Jim Morrison grave, please?

Thank you Sue, my brother got to see them, when he was in the army.
It like a small town .
It is, so beautiful too but very busy
There must of been quite a bit of wealth way back when these monuments were made .
Must have been, the monuments are amazing
So it’s like a Walmart cemetery? Surely it’s cheaper if they’re selling the same plot several times, right?
If there's a vault that you're entitled to be buried in, I'd imagine you still have to pay something towards it and probably a fee to keep your body in there
You didn’t visit Jim Morrison? Isn’t that one the most visited in Pete Lachaise?
I have several videos from here and my partner visited Jim's grave and videod it
Is there a key as to who is buried where available? Oh, can non-Christians be buried here?
Yes, all religions are buried there, as I said in video you can only be buried there now if you have family vault there
Do you use a map? How in the world do you keep from getting turned around?
No map here, just kept walking lol
If that was supposed to Victor Noir's ,member it sure is in a strang place. His upper thigh?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
It's a rather lengthy member to end up there,to be sure😂😂😂
😅😅 he was a big boy
✨🏴✨🥰✨👍✨♥️✨🤗✨.
maybe it would be a good idea to interact with someone there who speaks english to translate and join you , im sure someone would be happy to help you x
I'm home now Dean
@@SerenitySueGraveyards thats ok sue ,, im still watching your video x
Thanks Dean x
Its Pere, not Pierre as you keep saying.
Yes I'm aware of that now thanks
So nice to see how people used to live and die before taxes and fines put an end to it
Thanks very much ❤️
Imagine sleeping for eternity and ya wang bein fiddled with all the time..🫣🤦♀️
