I came to watch because Limited run games is publishing a physical for this game on switch and ps4. Looks very charming and fun. Thanks for the great review :)
You know I always used to watch Nintendo life for my reviews but I have abandoned them for you guys. You are now my go to for switch reviews. Why? In depth review of all games, good variety of games but most of all you are genuine and honest. Far too many biased reviewers out there and I'm done with them. Love you guys!!
Glad you managed to get a review out for this one, had my eye on it for quite a while. Looks right up my street & I may have to splash out & get it soon, thanks chaps!
Nice. Paper bugs are a cute escape from the hell I came from. That's Hollow Knight Steel Soul 100% run to be exact. I just died to Traitor Lord and I have to take deep, DEEP breaths to control my hands and not smash my Switch.
I really fear this will be overlooked because of the release date. With X-Com, Bioshock, Borderlands and Xenoblade coming the same day it will be hard to hit the well-deserved sale numbers. Please people, buy this!!!
Wow! This is the game all old-school Paper Mario fans have been waiting for! I mean how amazing was Thousand-Year Door? The series was never the same afterwards. I’m really looking forward to playing this homage to one of my fav Mario games.
This was a fantastic review. I like the fact that you described the game in detail and didn’t just said it is like the old paper Mario games. Great introduction for new players.
Thank you :) it was hard to not mention Paper Mario as a lot of the time I played it just felt like I was playing the original. That's by no means a bad thing and it's fantastic to see a studio keep the spirit of the older PM games alive. Dave
I can’t wait to begin squashing bugs with bugs..? Later today! This will tie me over until I get my hands on Paper Mario! Thanks for posting this review! 👍
Nice one guys. Like the look of this one. Will probably hold off in the hope it gets a physical. A bit of an expensive one personally for just a digital purchase
Wow - this really seems like they took the PM64-blueprint and just swapped out the characters. And I'm not even mad. PM64 is my favourite game of all time and if this comes even remotely close, I'll be a happy man! Definitely buying this! 💚
I'm a huge Paper Mario fan and for me Bug Fables is better to TTYD in a lot of aspect. In Paper Mario (the good old school one) the problem is that your partner don't have the time to have a lot of character development, because their character arc are all stuck in one chapter, also Mario is a boring silent protagonist. In Bug Fables you have a trio of protagonist, their character development and personality grow in each chapter. Also all NPC have unique design (this complain is more for Sticker Star and Color Splash). Bug Fables have a lot more content and the majority of the side quest are interesting (not just give me 2 mushrooms, bang quest done). Have a lot original optional boss with unique attack pattern (not like Bonetail/Hooktail). I have finish the game in 35 hours (side quest and post game included). This game was made by 4 persons (composer included). It's crazy to think that 4 persons with a low budget have made a huge game like this (this game smell love). 😁
This seems like an excellent game to satiate my paper mario crave. It should also give a good sense of how paper mario games have changed from the original if we compare this to the new paper mario game that’s coming out.
I played a bit of the original Paper Mario on an emulator. I really enjoyed what I played, but the glitches introduced by the emulator were really frustrating, so I gave up. While I wait for Switch Online to get an N64 emulator (so that I can play and finish Paper Mario) this looks like it might scratch that itch. (Also, having a predetermined party composition is a nice bonus. I hate having to decide which characters to use and which to ignore.)
I probably wouldn't have given this a second look on the eshop, it looks a bit shovelware-ish at first glance. So hard to justify adding anything to the backlog right now, but this might stay on my radar as a wait for a sale option.
Will the review for Resolutiion be dropping today? I want to grab it cause I love Hyper Light Drifter but I'm having my doubts after playing the demo on steam and I couldn't even use the joystick to move. D-pad only. That's kinda a deal breaker for me
If you've never played Paper Mario then you'll find this to be a fresher experience than I did, although you'd miss out on the nostalgic bliss at the same time. Swings and roundabouts I suppose :)
I'm so incredibly intrigued by this game, but I didn't play much of Paper Mario (64) upon it's release because I was kind of a Mario RPG snob. I think I missed out - but then again, I'm just not a huge fan of the paper aesthetic. That said, I played/finished the South Park Stick of Truth - but the comedy in that was what kept pushing me through and I'm used to that aesthetic (paper cut-out style) from the show. Do you feel this has enough 'moments' to keep one interested? That's honestly what kept me going In SP:SoT.
I have to assume the current UK price is a mistake, given both the US price (equivalent to £20) and that the xbox price is £20.99. I just bought it on the US Eshop.
I wasn't interested before but now that I saw what the game offers I really really want it.... My wallet will be empty because of the xenoblade collectors edition though :( Very nice review guys!
Shit, I was just about to buy this. Morally I just can't support this company though. May have to be the first game I ever pirate though, and maybe just send it to the team that actually worked on it, not the company that published it.
I am salty as this game is around $20 USD or $28 AUD on Steam and to see that it has a 50% mark up ($30 USD and $45 AUD) is highly disappointing as this games is on a platform most deserving. If it gets a 50% discount on switch, I may consider it. That all depends how Paper Mario pans out
But why tho? In paper mario I legit felt stronger upon leveling up. In bug fables I feel just as vulnerable as when I started. Never had to abuse items in paper mario but I definitely do In this game. Also, NPC's are stingy as hell giving me good medals (example, the bee hive with the bee professor). Ughhhh!!!! This game is great but is not perfect by any means!
My main concern with this game is that it's too similar to Paper Mario and looks like a reskin. I'm interested for sure but how it is, I'd rather just play the original Paper Mario. I'll pick it if there's a good sale for it.
A lot of the mechanics are essentially the same, as well as the look, but it does do its own thing too, mainly in the 3 character mechanic replacing PM's changeable partners. The world and characters are very different and very likable too
So basically this is a note for note re-hash of Paper Mario with forgettable generic characters? They better sell a truck load before Origami King comes out! Love to the S.U. family x
I didn't have any of his problems with jumping or anything, all you need is somewhat decent hand eye coordination or to just be able to see with your eyes in general for it to not be an issue.

Excellent review but it’s missing Mark’s “See yaaaah!”
I can imagine the sequel now: Bug Fables and the Thousand Eye Lord
It might take place in The Eastern Lands of Bugaria.
Game has so much charm I might ask it out to dinner.
Believe me no one, and I mean NO ONE is going to dinner with you.

You're pumping out reviews faster than I can watch! Thanks guys!
I came to watch because Limited run games is publishing a physical for this game on switch and ps4. Looks very charming and fun. Thanks for the great review :)
This game looks really nice, so much charm and so much nostalgia in it.
It certainly is charming. Glen

You look like someone who jumps around alot. Abandoned Jerome for Jamal
nintendo life are great and genuine, they aint IGN why cant you like both?

..dude you're a badass for even getting to traitor knight on steel soul
I cheesed traitor lord with a minion build and i feel no shame 😃
Enjoy the fricken radiant radiance. The most I’ve hated a boss ever. It’s the absolute radiance with infinite attack.
This game is so good please give it the love and support it deserves!! This review pretty much covers everything Ive wanted to say.
Had my eyes on this one, finally the review is here, thanks.
I really fear this will be overlooked because of the release date. With X-Com, Bioshock, Borderlands and Xenoblade coming the same day it will be hard to hit the well-deserved sale numbers. Please people, buy this!!!
All games people have played a billion times by now. Don't see why those would be big.
As always, great job reviewing and presenting. This game looks great and will definitely pick up. I hope you guys get 100k, it is much deserved!
Fun fact: The United States Navy has started using Xbox (like) controllers for their periscopes.
Love the game idea btw. Nice Video as always. See you
When a brilliant indie game is priced appropriately, some say it’s steep. If Nintendo released it, there would be no questions asked.
Thanks! I’m REALLY considering picking this up. I love that art style.
Wow! This is the game all old-school Paper Mario fans have been waiting for! I mean how amazing was Thousand-Year Door? The series was never the same afterwards. I’m really looking forward to playing this homage to one of my fav Mario games.

The game has a lot of bugs 😉.

Crikey this week is an expensive one for me! Thanks for helping me decide on getting this one!
This game gives me the same vibes as that bug game we had to play in computer class in elementary school!
Omggg! Yo same! Lol. I legit thought I was the only one thinking that. This is what making me want to play this game.
@@TeriyakiDior What game was that?
It doesn't quite fill the Paper Mario void, but it's damn close
I wonder if this game gets a good chunk of sales, that would mean that there would be more developers making more "PaperMario-like" games
i just watched 55 seconds of the video and i said "YES I WANT IT"
I can’t wait to begin squashing bugs with bugs..? Later today! This will tie me over until I get my hands on Paper Mario! Thanks for posting this review! 👍
Ahh! So many great new releases!
Absolutely love these visuals!
They look great don't they! Glen

This game is amazing, I'm loving every second so far
Absolutely loving this game so far
Amazing review, also can't believe Nintendo is promoting the game but I'm so happy they are doing it.
This looks amazing!! Can't wait to play it! Thanks for doing a great review! 👍
Finally 60fps goodness 😌
Nice! Visuals are very appealing ! They may keep me engaged even when I tend to get tired of RPGS....
Thanks .
Well if visuals are all you care for, no wonder you get bored quick
Excited!!! Thank you for this review!

You'll certainly be happy with this one. It feels just like the original paper mario
It's better

This game is phenomenally fun

Oh snap,I have this game in steam
For anyone who is gonna get this it's a good game to be honest
Are there a variety of different worlds/biomes?
I played this on PC a while back, are there any noticeable additions or changes? I remember playing the heck out of it.
I probably wouldn't have given this a second look on the eshop, it looks a bit shovelware-ish at first glance. So hard to justify adding anything to the backlog right now, but this might stay on my radar as a wait for a sale option.

There it is! Been waiting patiently for this review. Cant wait to try this one but needed to know how it performs. Thank you.
Great job with the review, this game looks awesome!
Definitely looks interesting. Not sure if it's a day one buy, but if Paper Mario OK disappoints, I'll give it a shot.
Really want to pick this one up eventually, but my backlog is still pretty hefty right now. Maybe in a month or so!!
Haha, the curse of the backlog strikes again. Glen
I agree! It’s very cute and definitely fun looking.
Grabbed this during Steam Sales but never got around to finishing it. Might just grab to Switch Version to have another go at it.
I want this so bad! I've been dying for an rpg like Paper Mario from N64 and Gamecube
i love this game so much, also i entered the GioTeck giveaway!!
love the colors of this game
Looks great, never played a Paper Mario but this does look like a game I could get into.
If you've never played Paper Mario then you'll find this to be a fresher experience than I did, although you'd miss out on the nostalgic bliss at the same time. Swings and roundabouts I suppose :)
Looks awesome, love paper mario so im going to be trying this game for sure :)
What's the writing like , does it have any of the humour or charm of that game we shouldn't be comparing it against?
Great review guys!

Something I can add to My ever growing wish list.
Is this game worth picking up despite the amount of Bugs? ;) let’s find out!
Looks like paper Mario. Must buy for me lol
It plays so much like it too. I kept on feeling like I was playing the n64 classic
I have to assume the current UK price is a mistake, given both the US price (equivalent to £20) and that the xbox price is £20.99. I just bought it on the US Eshop.
No, for whatever reason, the U.K. seem to have got the serious short end of the stick here. Glen
@@SwitchUpYt Specifically UK Switch users then. Bizarre.
I love paper mario so this looks like a fun game for now
Great review!
Anyone know if there’s a physical copy coming?
No physical coming as of now. The developers did an AMA on reddit and answered that question
I wanna scoop this..but its gotta wait until I play some other stuff
Awesome Review!
It's Switch Up Day! What's next?
I wasn't interested before but now that I saw what the game offers I really really want it.... My wallet will be empty because of the xenoblade collectors edition though :(

Okay now THIS is gaming

They still haven't paid the Devil Engine devs.
Shit, I was just about to buy this. Morally I just can't support this company though. May have to be the first game I ever pirate though, and maybe just send it to the team that actually worked on it, not the company that published it.
Screw devil engine
Devil engine screwed themselves by being stupid
So far (and im on chapter 2) the platforming has been trivial.
Paper Bug: The Antro King.
Why is it more expensive in the UK? Surely if it is $25 in the us it should be around £20, not 27 for the same game. That's ridiculous!
+arm1e it happens a little too often i'm afraid
This looks like a cute enough game. Might be nice as a palate cleanser after diving into Xenoblade
Downloading right now but no idea when I'm going to play it between Xenoblade and Bioshock... welp!
This can fix my itch at least until paper Mario comes out
My only gripe about this game is the small number party member
Looks fun ,geotek give away entered.
This game looks great !
Shame Xcom2 and Xenoblade are going to come out at same time
This is going to be overshadowed for sure
Keep up the great work! And i entered the giveaway!
If your running out of space on you Switch this game is only a quarter of gigabyte heavy. Very fast download too.
Unfortunately coming out at a very busy work and game time. So itll probably be a wait for a sale.
Game looks pretty good
I can't decide on this game or not. Should I get it?????? I hate turn based combat though.
Get Super Paper Mario on the wii then, it has the artstyle without turn based combat
It's simple enough to give it a try and the action commands make it more interactive than your typical turn based game.
Interesting game!
Anyone else getting a major Paper Mario vibe?
I am salty as this game is around $20 USD or $28 AUD on Steam and to see that it has a 50% mark up ($30 USD and $45 AUD) is highly disappointing as this games is on a platform most deserving.

So far this is working out to be better than ttyd personally. Each character is so fun to see infect l interact
