Idk, Iroh is great but zuko was necessary. When zuko joined, he lost his bending so Aang and his 1on1 was basically re-learning together from the original benders (the dragons). And zuko was an allegory for the avatar as well. Even though he was only a fire bender, we see him use his fire bending with water, earth, and air forms. This was taught to him by iroh but he also picked a lot of it up while traveling. He’s also the grandson of avatar Roku so it completes the circle since technically in a way Aang and zuko are related. Iroh is strong, no doubt. But the thing that helps more than having a good teacher, is having a peer to learn besides you
I do think he might still need the lion turtle for him to find how to take his bending because no one has heard of such a thing and no one could think of a solution instead of murder

Because Aang is the LAST air bender which is more of a pacifist people true Aang had done things that has ended lives but it also calls to question if he thought it through before the act except for the vulture wasp when he was at a psychological low point plus dehydrated and exhausted. He wants to be as close to an icon of his people as one person can be especially since there isn't another one to take over that spot as there was 100 years ago and killing Ozai would prove him and his forefathers correct about his people being weak and powerless but finding a work around like this holds true to his ideals and shows there is a point in how his people did things without being weak and defenseless because they averted unnecessary killings. In addition people may object to the Avatars ally taking the throne and throw more issues into the succession especially if it was through a dishonorable move Zuko lost and nearly died to Azula in the Agni Kai.

One of Aang's arcs was getting over his pacifism and peacefulness due to the violent war that could supposedly only end in murder. He had to deal with a literal world of pressure. He had to practice getting in control of himself during the avatar state the entire series, and him finally achieving that right before killing Ozai was built-up the entire series. To have him just kill Ozai would be really bitter and incomplete, as well as undermine most of the series and his character
Aang would have learned lightning bending 100%. He would also still know how to redirect lightning so dealing with ozais lightning would be extremely easy even without the avatar state.
Team Avatar would've definitely accepted Iroh and he would've been an amazing teacher. However, part of what makes him such a compelling father figure is that, even though he probably knew he could join team Avatar, he *chose Zuko* anyway, training up and trusting in Zuko's goodness and ability to train Aang instead of him. And, by doing this, Iroh effectively ensured that the fire nation had a stable leader to prevent them from falling into chaos in the aftermath of Ozai's defeat.
It really depends on when he joins as if he joined after the first encounter the team had with Azula then he can teach Aang fire bending and giving the spiritual connection Iroh has could have layed the ground work for Aang to learn the mastered avatar state and removing bending. He did teach zuko fire bending techniques that have a base in other elements so he could do the same for Toph and Katara. As well as help Katara with her mental state after the blood bending episode.
With Zuko it wasn't just Irohs teachings that helped him against Azula, it was also the new firebending form/technique he learned with Aang. Iirc Azula comments on his new style during their agni kai.

I know there are the comic's and legend of korra, neither never giving a nod to the idea of him actually doing it, but, what are the chances that he actually did....or he sat down with aang a while and spoke with him with some of the lessons he taught zuko?
I guess but without the Lion Turtle, he wouldn’t have learned the ability to take away one’s bending so Ozai would’ve been a Firebender still (assuming Aang still doesn’t expire him) and Ozai would’ve been probably plotting his escape with Firebending
The thing about iroh is that not only was iroh a good fire bender, you also must keep in mind that the original benders (dragons) taught him the pure form of firebending as well, hence why he was so much better than everyone before aang and zuko learned, because he knew how to bend fire without giving into rage and he could control himself. But I like the episode zuko and aang learn fire bending so I say no.
Iroh probably would have helped Aang quite a bit, except Aang had a block about firebending. Korra had the same block about airbending too. He got past it meeting the original firebenders with Zuko.

Aang would have still needed the Lionturtle. To stop someone like Ozai simply beating him wouldn't be enough without the Lionturtle the only way Aang could stop Ozai would have been to kill him something he was heavily against even after what all his friends and past lives told him.
Well Zuko was very important to the story, having Iroh, the gaang would have won too easily, Zuko joining the gaang instead is just one of Iroh's teachings
I assume Iroh would join team Avatar after breaking out from fire nation prison during the eclipse, so they would probably reunite sooner. If that would be the case, then Zuko and Aang would become way stronger due to training with Iroh and being able to spar and stuff, which would lead Zuko to beating Azula even easier(the rest of the fight would stay the same tho) and Aang probably still would learn energy bending but could beat Ozai mid diff without energy bending.
Considering bumi is stronger than toph as crazy as cactus sokka as wise as late stage katara and as empathetic as Aang he should’ve been the leader to begin with
