As I have an interest in ESSB some recent Yaesu radios can actually TX 50-4000hz by adjusting a TTBW (Total Transmit BandWidth) menu through a specific radio power-on procedure. My question is, can the FTdx101D/MP support ESSB TX/RX and to what degree? Ideally 50-6000hz or 100-4000hz minimally. Thanks in advance for any specific information you can provide.
No built in atu? I wonder why the optional VCT-101 was not spoken about in the video? I understand the VCT-101 will come as standard in the 200W version in addition to the extra filters.
No firm specs mentioned? Multi-colour waterfall? best way to spend £3100? really? I would have thought a better QRM/QRN filtering would be nice as the UK is drowning in artificial noise. If you can decode PSK31, why not SSTV?
Why do optional filters require the radio to be sent to Yaesu ?? This is very bad for us South American users, does Yaesu have any solution for this ???

I have a 30-year-old FT 840 with an RSP2 & two decent homemade antennas (22m Doublet & 5m Vertical). FT DX101D looks a lovely rig but I'd need some serious convincing...
I was surprised to learn that there are different lengths of warranties depending on which region the radio is purchased. In the UK, Yaesu UK provides a 3-year warranty.
Can the rx bandwidth be adjusted, not the set values at 300, 1.2khz, 3khz ... can we adjust to other values like 2.4khz or 2.6khz on receive that is ? Can it do 3khz or 3.4 khz TX bandwidth ? How much amps does it draw on RX and then on 100 watt TX ? Does it have a auto tuner >? and the specs if it has one, i missed that part. How does the notching work and closing down of bandwidth to very narrow , for cw. My most concerned question must be, :"Is it any better than a previous model like a FT 5000 or even the FT 1000 as i feel if we use the proper antenna for the right band even an Old Icom from 10 years ago works just fine, 3000 pounds is a boat full of cash to part with, while the screen looks pretty the function buttons gets to be very small in size, thereby the compactness i guess :) , Looking forward to see how it fares and hoping for no screen issues as many of these new age radios works great just to be a dud in some or other area of new design flaws. Wait for version 3 i guess?
I can answer some of your questions. No the 101D does not have an auto tuner. The power supply unit that Yaesu were using for this demonstration was rated at around 30 Amps. It was sitting on a chair underneath the table so I couldn't get a really close look at it unfortunately. I've no idea what the TX @100W or RX current is. However this radio is clearly not designed to be used primarily in portable field day style operations, so I doubt very much that Yaesu will have worried too much about minimizing current draw on RX. Yaesu has really stepped up technology over the years, while some models had some issues, the same can be said about just about any other make and models , some more popular than others , like the famous Icom 706 m 2 G (dynamite in a box) :) Now as we (hams) get older (grey) :) we tend to care more about the simple things in life, our eyesight deteriorate, hearing fades and the list is non ending, so with this model at least we can see better , hehe... anyway too me it looks like dx chaser/contest rig or just a "i'll have 2 off them " scenario. Judging from what i hear on air over the years time and time:" the rich buy what they can or want, the poor(must read retired) buys what they can afford, Advertising makes a poor product sell for an upmarket price, not that the 101D has any weak point i can see, but rather a example of price wars. The double edged sword works both ways, 2nd hand rigs now sell for higher prices as the new rigs has become out of reach for the middle class, if i may call them that. Oh Well in the end we need a radio, right.. Right :)
It will certainly receive on frequencies outside of the amateur bands; for example I listened to a few stations in the 41 and 31 meter broadcast bands. Incidentally the AM reception of those stations sounded really nice. Regarding transmit, the ICQ Podcast is dedicated to amateur radio and the 101D is ostensibly an amateur radio transceiver. Accordingly I did not ask about 11 meters / MARS / other bands as these fall beyond the scope of amateur radio transmissions. 73.
@@boblewin7099 : Yep, I have the RSP1, 2, and Duo. The Duo with DSDplus decodes P25 better than my little Uniden UBCD396T. Unless a person wants to go mobile, I don't understand why they'd use something at home. The RSP series do everything accept TX. And the HackRF One can be pushed to 10 Gigs all mode, and all with great frea software. They should be advertised a lot more. And we can TX with the HackRF One as well. Never need another receiver, ... Ever.

The screen display is awful. On the screen of the radio Christmas garland. Fonts are chosen terribly.

The ICOM IC7300 can do all mode 4 meter and is a theard of price
