Not until they jail corrupt politicians.
I think the Philippines has great potential for development because English is the official language, there are many resources, and there is a large young population. I wish both countries progress. from KR
As a malaysian and member of ASEAN i can say yes Philipines can be next asia tiger. Every country have things to offer to the world. What important is good and trustworthy leaders.
I dont think so
East Asian countries tend to have strict social norms, but the Philippines does not. For the country's economic development, citizens need to voluntarily and strictly adhere to social norms. Economic development is not a favor given by political leaders or the elite class.

Korea experienced civilizational development hundreds and thousands of years ago during the dynasty era. The reason Korea fell into the lowest income level of mankind was in the late Joseon Dynasty. Joseon rejected the West's industrial revolution modernization and was ruined by Japan, which accepted the West's modernization recommendations first. During the Cold War, the two systems of liberal democracy and communism split. After a civil war that reduced the country to one of the poorest countries in the world, it is trying to return to the glory days of hundreds or thousands of years ago.

it's IMPOSSIBLE. Even Tom Cruise will deny this mission.
My family invested in the Philippines for more than 12 years and I am afraid to say it is almost impossible to do that because essentially the people with power in the Philippines(landlords, local company owners, old money, etc) do not want significant changes. Just dreaming never makes a real change
Kind of colonial mindsets. Some people just doesn't favour changes like our economic provisions which is no longer relevant in this generation. Hmmm!
We are tired of 'Next Japan', 'Next South Korea'. Let countries to be their own
Impossible
If the Philippines have a honest leaders from lower to higher government officials maybe....but if still the same corruption is already planted in the heart and mind of every pilipino
This vid deals with too narrow part. Actually Koreans work really hard and they put lots of resources to education. They are put in really Stressful conditions from their childhoods Koreans earn less than what they have devoted.
I do not want to underestimate the Philippine ‘s effort and devotion to their callings and joyful life . But. I think the gov and parents should invest more on educations rather than just low wage works.
Philippines can become the next develop if we could have what develop countries have, a technology brand that the world wants. Like in S. Korea there are Samsung, LG, Hyundai and more. Even in Vietnam, Vinfast is starting to make its name to the world.
and Viettel from in Vietnam is the 2nd strongest telecommunications company in the world,

I think they will need to really export. Their product prices are very cheap so they should export much harder than they do now. More demand needs more workers and more people will be employed, and eventually it'll get to the point wages will rise as there won't be plenty of others that are idle.
Never. Need to overhaul DepEd and CHED first to stimulate innovation.
No, quite frankly the market has changed drastically from what was originally there and the fact that the Philippines is behind in technological advancements just widens the gap for possible innovation and ability to recoup any means of getting out of this "third world country" status.
Maybe if we try and shift our focus from tourism to agriculture, we might stand a chance to get out of our current financial crisis. But the government's budget doesn't seem like it'd ever change its priorities. And the longer we wait to make such a shift only makes it drastically harder to do such shift as inflation and supply and demand presents issues along the way.
its not important if we can surpass the korea's economy...the important thing is we were in middle economy..and we are lucky and thankful that our country is rich of nature than korea.

Let the Philippines be Philippines the country has a lot to develop
In 2033 the Philippines will have it's first trillion dollar GDP joining countries with trillion dollar economies. The birth rate is falling to 1.2 average per woman due to free family planning options provided by the govt, also the low unemployment and rise of middle income Filipino families not just in the cities but in urban outskirts and some rural areas. If these trends continue, it might catch up with SK but it will take 3 to 4 decades. As long as, of course, there will be no another Coup d'etat and Covid, and hopefully China won't attack Taiwan in 2027.
There is no developed country that relies solely on population and consumption. Is your country autonomous in industry, technology, science and technology, and patents like Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan 30 years ago? If we still don't start doing those things today, we will still be a developing country in 40 or 50 years 😂
@@ChipCoDon3 I agree. It's going that route slowly but surely. Of course each country has its own strength and if we want to succeed right now we need to use and maximize it. It would be hard to compete head to head with these east Asian giants right now if we talk about patents especially south east Asian countries like us came from decades of political unrests. That's why we need to make up for these lost decades by capitalizing on human resources then eventually shift from mere manual laborers to a more advanced manufacturing type of enterprise. One good example is that the Philippine defense department starts giving priority to local defense manufacturing companies that make light watercrafts and armored personal vehicles and carriers which in turn will give them budget for their own research. Hopefully that would give these private manufacturers the ability to build more advanced and sophisticated vehicles like tanks, ships or aircrafts locally in the future so we won't need to outsource and import all of our military vehicles.
Remeber we have no gas and oil to export in other nation. What if Philippines own oil and gas. Hmmmm. Now you see the different? Yes other nation so rich but they product so high. Philippines can be better but not like this country, that they are on top, people have differrrnt mindset not as one, it is archipelago prone to calamities, agriculture is not good due to typhoon, But over all can be above average but not on top, What is the good future for Philippines? It is only good for Vacation, people are open to all nationality, mixed culture. Asian Hispanic Islanders!
So much negative thoughts about the topic, some says impossible and some says hate words, pure negative towards philippines,i think philippines acknowledge its mistakes and what is importante is that they are doing its best to improve its economy despite corruption and etc,.It wont take overnight to reach the goal of success, its so challenging as you have witness not just corruptions is the problem but also different phenomenon like typhoon, earthquake, pandemic etc and yet philippines is resilient, able to increase its gdp amidst those things and in my conclusion its not impossible it is really POSSIBLE.
yes, of course..it's on course now...
Let's not get too ahead of ourselves. A better question would be, "Can the Philippines be the next Thailand?" Thailand is more similar geographically and demographically. Same weather and agriculture. The goal would be to focus on manufacturing, self-sustaining agriculture development (self-sustaining/sufficient rice production), infrastructure development (including tourism infrastructure), and the lowering of the population growth rate (and, although it has already started, much more is needed).

Should the Philippines reciprocate its visa policy?
I've seen a lot of Filipinos wants their country to reciprocate its visa policy where citizens of countries that do not allow Filipinos to enter without a visa should not have the privilege to enter the Philippines visa-free.
Many Filipinos finds it unfair that these countries can easily enter the Philippines without a visa, while Filipinos need to obtain one and often struggling, which makes them feel discriminated against.
Currently, citizens of over 157 countries can enjoy visa-free entry into the Philippines, while Filipinos have only 69 visa-free access destinations. This made the people frustrated, saying if the Philippines offered visa-free entry to most of the countries and welcomed them with an open arms, but these countries do not give the same privilege to Filipinos and give them a hard time to enter their country.
Due to this, they want to scrap visa-free entry to them as a return, except to other countries that allowed Filipinos to enter without a visa. This will ensure a reciprocal visa policy and fairness between the Philippines and other nations.
There's another reason why many Filipinos wants to scrap visa-free to foreigners. Is it also because what they do in the Philippines, a lot of them came as sexpats, pedos, pinoy-baiting vloggers, poverty porn vloggers, and other things that bothers Filipinos and the country.
Now, let me repeat the question. Should the Philippines reciprocate its visa policy? Let me down below.

I genuinely believe that anarcho-capitalist economic policies are likely the only way for the country's economy to compete with or even surpass South Korea's. It's unfortunate that Filipinos are so averse to change that they'd prefer to remain trapped in the nation's oligarchic system rather than take risks to improve the country for everybody.

think they should bring a couple of guys in from the United States that are good honest and have a good reputation and see if they wouldn't mind spending four or five years setting up a system that will work. The Philippines has not experienced labor unrest for more than a decade now.
And Philippine wages rise at around 6% per year on the average.

I think that’s rarely going to happen. A lot of technological companies heavily rely on Samsung and LG tech. They take a huge amount of influence in other international brands. LG dominating in home appliances exceptionally high, and Samsung dominating on phones and telecommunications. Hyundai tech on electric vehicles and so on. Military weapons exports and esports. Uprising Korean fashion. It has been famous more than a decade now and is still makes and influence. Also, Korea’s soft power is significantly smaller than Korea’s hard power which not a lot of people know. Nuclear tech being famous as well. This UA-cam video doesn’t show a lot of information. It just shows the basics OF the basics. Very thin info. But if you go deeper, then yes, Korea is still bigger than you might know of. It won’t be damaged easily I’m afraid. Through strong cooperation with the United States. This led to significant technological cooperation with Japan. Korea is a country founded and developed by right-wing liberal democratic forces. The Philippines can also succeed if right-wing forces take power. There is no successful example of left-wing communism in the world, and this communism is bound to fail because it creates downward standardization and is a society in which people who work hard and develop lose money. I think there is a possibility if the Philippines also takes a pro-American path and allows a right-wing government to remain in power for a long time.
The Philippines is now defeating these communists in the boondocks which is called NPA. It is the longest standing armed communist struggle which, like you said, is destined to fail. Now the Philippine Armed Forces focus is shifting to external threats mainly China's coercion in WPS and Taiwan.
