Finally got to catch "The Live" today. Lots of great "Comment Fodder" in this 'cast! My "Amp Journey" was indeed THAT. Worst "Rabbit Hole" involved a Roland Cube 60 😳! I began getting on track re: the "Clean Amp / Pedal" approach with an unlikely Trace Elliot stereo/twin Acoustic Amp, which ultimately led to a Roland JC-40. Learned why those "Stage Pros" use Boss Pedals (besides reliability): They work fabulously with anything "Clean", esp. P/As.
Phil isn’t wrong. Started with a syn-1 so I could get a Morgan-ish thing cheap. Now have a Syn-50 with a 4-12” cab and seamlessly integrating the syn-1, and just a few good modules that I love. Awesome system.
The standard tuning for a ukulele is G-C-E-A, when looking at the strings from left to right. However, while the strings on a guitar are tuned higher in pitch than the string preceding it, this is not entirely the case with a ukulele.
To add to your observations about PRS guitars at the VMAs: When I was researching for my first PRS purchase (pre-Covid), I was impressed to read that it was common for working musicians to buy SE versions of their Core guitars for use on stage (due to the rough and tumble nature of live gigs). This wouldn’t happen if those guitars weren’t up for the challenge. Compared to the generally marginal guitar quality from when I started playing in the 70’s, almost any brand you buy today for a couple hundred bucks is very good (some even great) - and I wish everyone who is younger could time travel and experience it for themselves. A typical guitar store with 30 guitars might have only between 3 to 5 guitars that were playable over the entire neck, and those cost 2x or 3x what you could afford. Today, entry level PRS guitars are a bit more costly than others, but the value in the upper end of the SE line is amazing. Keep up the great work with KYG…!
Be aware that PRS does not do their inspection on guitars under $400. I bought a $399 guitar and there was no inspection card, so I asked my sales guy and that was his answer. No problem. The guitar was a Sterling Axis = incredible guitar.
The first thing to eliminate from the order is "sugar water" - then any sort of sauce (including mayonnaise), and also fries or chips. I usually order two small, combine them and discard half the bread.
Instruments for very young kids--try tuned steel tongue or lotus drums. Some are major pentatonic. Others split the major scale laterally. This means most adjacent pairs of notes are thirds, three notes form a diatonic triad. Easy to find lots of happy sounds randomly. Also easy to introduce basics of theory.
I have a Japanese 1987, candy apple Stratocaster with a Kahler trem I've had for 30 years. It's huge. I never used a tremolo back then, and only recently started to use one occasionally on a PRS I have. I never liked trems back then cause I felt whatever guitar I was playing would never stay in tune, that didn't have a locking system. This strat did, but I removed it and just screwed it down tight and made it into a hard tail. It sounds awesome with the Kahler fixed! Maybe someday I'll convert it back, but I think the locking mechanism is long gone! Lol
I don't care if a PRS would guarantee me to become a 100% better player I would never buy one. Hate the headstock, hate the bird inlays, and I still associate them with nu-metal and butt rock of the late 90's. Maybe that is superficial but a guitar that speaks to me visually, inspires me to play it.
I've had two bad experiences with the Sweetwater 55 point inspection. They were very good about exchanging them, but they missed significant cosmetic damage on a $2600 and a $3000 guitar. I've ordered about 10 guitars from them in total. My rep is awesome of course.
Phil or anybody really. If your looking for solid rock band check out THE WARNING. Just saw them for the 3rd time. Great live band and fun to watch. also the guitarist (Dany) also plays PRS.
Stew Mac had Driftwood Guitars on for a spray can finish. They do a really good walk through buffing without a stand up buffing wheel. It's real info from professional builders. The last part in the series covers the details you're looking for.

Also - for the record BJ's does the same thing (check your item count as you leave the store) and one time they did catch one item we didn't scan. Well - I DID scan it but for some reason it didn't scan so it wasn't on the receipt. Now - that said - there was only a dozen items in my cart so it was easy for them to count items.
For the record Phil I knew the answer was that they disclosed the 55 point inspection but I’m watching on the replay and cant participate in the fun shenanigans lol. Cheers!
Hello @PhillipMcKnight, I hope you are doing well! Love the channel! I wanted to ask what the yellow LP-shaped 2-P90 guitar in the corner is? It's a very nice looking guitar! Thank you!
I bought a new Dean Cadi and it came with a checklist and it has to be theater because someone "checked" the toggle switch yet it didn't work properly.
Not hearing it myself. That said, I’ve been mistaken before. Is it possible that Ms Anderson would be kind enough to do an intro for us so we could compare? Methinks that would be kind of cool. 😊
Thanks for a recent video where you mentioned Monster Bolts. I placed an order and installed new shorter saddle screws in my strat for about $3. Now the saddle feels the same to my hand as my other strat with $50 Highwood saddles.

Regarding the security theater. Things like checking the receipts works as a concept not because they can catch you cheating on what you put in the bag reliably, but because novice/amateur shoplifters will go somewhere else because they won't get checked at all. When you're as big as Wal-Mart or Costco, getting a couple people per week per store to steal somewhere else ends up being a huge amount of money.

Hey phil, prs currently makes the prs Mira in SE, which is unfortunate. Love the mira, have an SE, and an older s2.

Phil - that track you're working on is terrific! Can't wait to hear it when it's done. Love the funk element in there.

That movie is SATURDAY the 14th....
I have noticed that a lot of country guys are playing prs
Hey Phil,Thanks for posting those VMA vids. The Eminem vid was kinda emotional. I would have never checked them out.
I was surprised that the Parker tremolo system was not mentioned. . .
Always insightful Phil, thanks man! I totally empathize with the second "OHHHH those bastards" 🤣
I bought a new Dean Cadi and it came with a checklist and it has to be theater because someone "checked" the toggle switch yet it didn't work properly.
the hurricane joke came out of nowhere lol solid delivery
I saw BLT with the Bear, Lion and Tiger!😅
Does anyone else think that the opening line (I think it is Phil's wife) kind of sounds like Gillian Anderson (Xfiles)? haha

does prs keep you on payroll? i kid i kid. great show.

Thanks for a recent video where you mentioned Monster Bolts. I placed an order and installed new shorter saddle screws in my strat for about $3. Now the saddle feels the same to my hand as my other strat with $50 Highwood saddles.
Fender Brownface 6G5-A PRO 1x15" Harmonic Tremolo!! How can you not get excited about a Killer Amp?
Hey Phil!
First off ... yes I have a 2008 Fender Jazz Bass, that I got used for $120 and it's great! besides the pick guard shrinking I love it! Cheap guitars can be great!
Also ... can you talk about Egnater Amps? I have a Tourmaster 100 watt combo amp I got from a shop that was closing used for $275 ... and I love it! it's heavy but it's great and nobody talks about these amps thanks!

should have listened live, i knew it was 55 point.
Your comments about picking through them. Cheaper or more expensive guitars I treat them the same if it doesn’t feel good in the hands doesn’t get a great acoustic tone, I am not buying it. I don’t buy anything I haven’t sat and played.

Phil, thank you for all you do. I would like to share that during the recent Fender Sale, I purchased a Fender Ultra Telecaster Texas Tea from Sweetwater. I selected a specific serial number, which, during the 55-point inspection, a significant blemish was discovered. My sales engineer contacted me to give me the option to select another serial numbered guitar, which I did. I received the guitar in absolutely perfect condition. However, I did lower the setup (to my preference) when I replaced the strings with 100% nickel Fender Bullet Strings. The guitar is absolutely perfect. It stays in tune and plays great. This shows that Fender can send out a perfect guitar, and Sweetwater is the safety net to make sure you are satisfied. As far as PRS goes, I do not care for the personality of the person or the instruments he produces. I guess that is why Baskin-Robbins makes 30 plus flavors.
I had amp GAS really bad until I got my most recent amp, which was built by a local shop; a tweed vibrolux clone with a 12” speaker
Leading up to the build I was learning about vintage amps from the 50s and 60s, so I could decide exactly what I wanted, and then after I chose I had to wait a while, and during that time I accumulated a list of amps I’d like to acquire in the future, which became a long list.
When I finally got the amp it essentially killed my GAS, stopped thinking about amps and pedals constantly, and I just want to enjoy what I have.
Maybe the current to GAS is one good guitar, one good amp, and a handful of the right pedals. Unfortunately, or maybe not so unfortunately, it’s quite the journey to find the right tools
I totally agree about low end guitars; there are some diamond in the rough examples but you have to look for them. I have a couple Ibanez bass guitars and an AZES that are amazing examples that I would put up against higher end guitars.
Logged on for the guitar/amp tech talk. Stayed for the dad jokes. 😂
It is awesome that your integrity would not allow you to accept the free guitar and baseball game from Sweetwater. Your humility and honesty are why we love you Phillip. Keep up the great work!
I don’t mind the new singer. She’s decent and has good energy on stage. It’s not really Linkin Park but I’m fine with it.
I bought 2 guitars from Sweetwater and I sent both of them back because of defects.
