It is 1967 and social revolution is in full swing and the hippie era has arrived. The rock opera Hair is made and become an anthem for the young in these times. This song Aquarius is from that rock opera. It is a great song from the hippie era. I was only 11 and was totally captivated by this song the sound and the hope and promise of the new era happiness, flower power and love. Thank you for finding this song. Great memories. Great reaction.

Even though I hadn't even hit puberty, my 9-year-old self still recognized that Marilyn McCoo was drop-dead gorgeous. Long before Whitney Houston blended beauty with vocal gifts, there was Marilyn.

After the 5th Dimension, 2 of their members (Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr.) went on to record songs individually and as a duo. They were very good and popular. The two were a married couple.

I grew up with the great music of The 5th Dimension in the 60's-70's. They had so many great hits such as "Go Where You Wanna Go", "Up, Up & Away", "Stoned Soul Picnic", "Sweet Blindness", "Wedding Bell Blues", "California Soul", "Workin' On A Groovy Thing", "One Less Bell To Answer", "Never My Love", "(Last Night) I Didn't Get To Sleep at All", "If I Could Reach You", "Love's Lines, Angles & Rhymes", "Living Together, Growing Together" etc.

The music comes from the musical "Hair" (1967) and radiates the mood of that time so beautifully that I always have a few tears flowing out of sheer sentimentality. There is also a 1979 feature movie "Hair" based on the musical. Well worth a look.

Hi Ms. Sarah, Please review the Fifth Dimension's "One Less Bell To Answer", a beautiful song sung by the
beautiful Ms. Marilyn McCoo.. (U know I am just an old softy) In the song she asked why did he leave me,
I can answer that question; he is an idiot.. Someone below mention that Ms. Marilyn is married to
my cousin Mr. Billy Davis, Jr., a member if the group.. ☺ ♠W.G.

When this song came out, I was mesmerized by it. At the age of 12 this is what I chose as my first album to buy with my allowance (and in those days it took a couple of weeks to save up that kind of money). Their harmonies were unique and different at the time. I remember when it was fashionable to wear those close. Thank you for the memories, I really enjoyed this reaction.

This is wonderful, it takes me back to my childhood. For a moment, I wanted to look for a hippie dress or at least my mom's necklace. With pride and nostalgia, I want to share the fact that the Belgrade premiere was on May 23, 1969, and the critics praised the play, which played the card more and toured the entire former Yugoslavia. The then Belgrade "Hair" was the first performance (in a foreign language) after the premiere on Broadway and the staging at the West End in London.
The director of the play "Hair" in Belgrade was Mira Trailović, founder of Belgrade International Theatre Festival BITEF..
It seems that this song is very current again 😞 ..

Yes indeed THAT Base! That's the late greats Joe Osborn on Bass and Hal Blaine on Drums. They were a group of studio musicians in LA starting from the late 50's all the way through to the late 70s that are now known as "The Wrecking Crew". They included greats such as Earl Palmer (Drums), Tommy Tedesco (Guitar), Al Casey (Guitar), Carol Kaye, (Bass) and Glenn Campbell (Guitar) who later went on to have his own hits. They were responsible for thousands of recordings from Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra to the 5th Dimension and The Monkees and The Beach Boys, The Carpenters to Sonny and Cher and John Lennon to name a few. They played on all the Phil Spector produced hits. They also did all the old TV series intro tunes and music score from Mission impossible to MASH and Hawaii 5-O to name a few. If you ever heard a hit from the 60s and 70s the chances are that the music recordings were by the Wrecking Crew.
Here's the full documentary about them. ua-cam.com/video/6E3nr--6IrQ/v-deo.html It's a great watch.

The meaning of this song is self-evident. The Age of Aquarius is an age that will eventually usher in worldwide peace on Earth. We have moved out of the Age of Pisces, into the Age of Aquarius. However, the effects of this 'age' will not be felt yet, because the world is still caught in a cycle of darkness, wars and death. When human beings finally tire of war, and look for other more peaceful ways to settle their disuputes, that is when we will allow the sunshine in. And when the Age of Aquarius finally comes to the fore. Peace on Earth.

This music video makes me so sad. This was the start of the liberal hippie movement that started in California. All the great band that burst out of San Francisco. So much promise. How did it go so wrong. The liberas of today are offended by words and triggered by everything. And San Francisco is dying choking on the homeless and every street flooded with needles and feces. It had such promise.

If you love Jesus, then you know that this is about the “Fifth” dimension, Jesus!! This song was loved by the whole world. Let the sun (Son Jesus!!) shine in, open up your heart! The last scene is the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ wonderful teachings for peace and love. JMHO. I cry every time I hear this beautiful song.
The astrology is nonsense, but who knows for sure? Aquarius could refer to Christ’s Living Waters. Water is featured at the end. The first part is a promise of peace and harmony, love, understanding and the mind’s true liberation!! The second part calls you to come and join Christ. 🕊🕊🕊
Open up your heart!! Let the Son shine in!!
You can see why the God blessed these beautiful people with this wonderful song. 🕊🕊🕊
