In this series, Dr. Jordan B. Peterson engages in a round table discussion with six other scholars to read Exodus and discuss what it means, and why it remains significant thousands of years after it was written.
Scholars at the table are Dr. Douglas Hedley (Professor of the Philosophy of Religion, Cambridge University), Dr. Os Guinness (English Author and Social Critic), Dr. James Orr (Assistant Professor of Philosophy of Religion, Cambridge), Dennis Prager (author of the Rational Bible Series, Co-Founder of PragerU), Dr. Stephen Blackwood (President of Ralston College), Gregg Hurwitz (novelist, screenwriter, and comic book creator), and Jonathan Pageau (Christian thinker and artist).

Dutironimy 131Everything I command you that you shall be careful to do it. You shall neither add to it, nor subtract from it.2If there will arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of a dream, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,3and the sign or the wonder of which he spoke to you happens, [and he] says, "Let us go after other gods which you have not known, and let us worship them,"4you shall not heed the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of a dream; for the Lord, your God, is testing you, to know whether you really love the Lord, your God, with all your heart and with all your soul.5You shall follow the Lord, your God, fear Him, keep His commandments, heed His voice, worship Him, and cleave to Him.6And that prophet, or that dreamer of a dream shall be put to death; because he spoke falsehood about the Lord, your God Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and Who redeemed you from the house of bondage, to lead you astray from the way in which the Lord, your God, commanded you to go; so shall you clear away the evil from your midst.7If your brother, the son of your mother, tempts you in secret or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your embrace, or your friend, who is as your own soul saying, "Let us go and worship other gods, which neither you, nor your forefathers have known."

      @@steven5054 Typical misrepresentation.
      1. He wasn't crying about trans-people, he was warning everyone about compelled speech from the State. His warning was justified, as can be witnessed in the lunacy currently happening in the UK and Canada.
      2. He wasn't crying about vaccines, only the compulsion and tyranny surrounding them. It turns out he was correct there too.
      3. He isn't crying about climate change or denying it, he's simply platforming voices who reason for pragmatic solutions (like Bjorn Longberg) instead of bankrupting Western nations with foolish pursuits.
It might help if you actually understood someone's position before you attempted to frame them. It sounds a lot more like you're determined to believe something about the man, rather than actually understand what he's saying, which is again... typical...

      @kathycoleman4648 Рік тому +1

Indeed. Because it is a question of whether one cares about mercy and redemption that will prompt whether justice should focus on being rehabilitative or retributive.
If one believes in mercy and redemption, whether in this life or the next, there is a moral compulsion to ensure that we do not block people from seeking those paths while they draw breath, even if we must keep them imprisoned if they have harmed others.
If we do not believe in mercy and redemption, then keeping them alive is unnecessary and a waste of tax dollars. Put two in the back of the head and feed 'em to the buzzards. They have forfeited life and no longer serve a purpose.
In camp A, we protect society while acknowledging the continued spiritual worth of the wrongdoer.
In option B, the crime forfeits the criminal all rights and we act according to our own personal satisfaction and convenience.
If there is a God of any sort involved, I sure as heck hope that deity supports A and not B, or at lot of people are going to be in for a heck of a shock.

If you think for one second your not here on God's conditions, you have no blessings on this earth or hereafter.

Addressing the first claim in the video. The bible today isn't the same as when the new testament was written. It has been mistranslated through multiple languages and heavily altered. Now further on:
    1. The bible isn't a basis for morality. All of society's best morals can be logically derived from utilitarianism with the principle of maximizing happiness and wellbeing in society.
    2. Women's rights aren't an invention of the west. Many cultures independently developed equal societies and matriarchies like the Mosuo in China and Iroqouis federation in NA.
    3. The bible defends slavery in exodus 21 and homophobia which are objectively evil acts. Its evil not because God said so. But because it harms people.
    4. The evidence of christianity being true is the same level for every religion in existence. It comes from a non falsfiable hypothesis that God is real which can't be tested since our world can exist both with a God and without. There is no rational reason to be a religious at all. You have no obligation to God since his existence is as real as a leprechaun. You have obligation to the people around you which we know are real.
    5. Most arguments for gods existence are philosophical and don't ground to a particular religion or sect. Even if you use an ontological argument it doesn't imply you should be Christian or Muslim. Only that a higher being exists which is a useless result since we have no way of interacting with God before death.

I finally got around to starting to watch this series on DailyWire+ and wow. Episode was fantastic. I enjoyed the beginning but it REALLY started hitting so much towards the end of the episode I had to take out notepad and start typing out some notes to remind me of the great ideas being presented to me. Goodness gracious. I used to love playing video games all day but man...I just feel so empty afterwards. This is like real food now and it's so incredibly satisfying. I wished this content had existed when I was a younger man, but I'm gracious to hear these things in my 30s.

Yes. I want the villains to have a chance to repent before they have to pay the ultimate price. Judaism shows God's justice and Christ as part of the Holy Trinity, one God, shows the Mercy of God. Mercy and Justice because God judges Perfectly since He knows intentions, and motivations as well as our own weakness of character. That is why Christianity is the New Covenant and Christ the Perfect Sacrifice. The Old Covenant was ended with the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 AD by the Romans.

[Edit: I take that back. Sounds like there will be something like toe old lecture format coming up AFTER this round table format of scholars with various background discussion. Also, I took advantage of their Black Friday sale and paid for a subscription. First 35 minutes into Episode one and I am already writing up notes and planning watching parties with my friends so we can discuss things they have mentioned. Ie. Per Johnathan Pageau - I'm paraphrasing - the Pharaoh asked midwives to kill infant boys is essentially a tyranny enabling women to kill the men. I never thought of it that way. EYE-OPENER.]
I wish the old lecture format and UA-cam availability were carried…
