This kid thinks he’s a bad communicator but he hit the nail on the head with his observation and then knew exactly how to ask it. He’s on the right track.
Why I love Jordan Peterson is because he gives great, actionable answers. No hocus-pocus 'good vibes' speech about 'just be confident' or 'be yourself', but an actual answer that you can follow and put into action!
Especially after listening to some Guru's who sometime leave us with quite abstract answers to figure ourselves out for later, Jordan gives really clear connection of understanding our concern, laying down the abstractions, giving action points and everything with it! Absolutely amazing articulation!
He offers theoretical answers and then moves on to apply those concepts in a practical example. Don't forget he was a university lecturer. A very good one, too.
- Practice is important. - To become great at articulation, you need to both read a lot and write a lot. - Preferably write 15 minutes every day. Do this for 10 years and you straighten out your thinking a lot. - If you want to speak effectively, you need to know way more than what you're speaking about. - When you do public speaking, you're not speaking to a group. You always speak to one individual. Pick one in your mind. - Don't talk to a thousand people: Talk to a thousand individuals, one at a time. - You don't 'deliver a talk' to an audience. You have a conversation with them. - Having the goal to be a great communicator is a great start. - It doesn't matter what you do, whatever you do, you are 10 times better at everything if you are a good communicator. - If you're a very good negotiator, everyone walks away from the negotiation happy. And that comes from communicating effectively.
Let me tell you this advice WORKS. I basically never bothered to study when growing up really at all, and over the years I isolated myself playing video games and got to the point I couldn't formulate sentences properly, because I didd't have much to talk about, and my lack of speaking to people made me worse over the years. But one day I decided to start reading and every time I had a sleep after the read (I read on a night), I used to wake up every morning and my words would just flow from my mouth... It's weird but it's true.
I've noticed that too. Now, I admit I don't read books usually, but reading comments or just listening to videos like these, obviously not the same as reading books, but I have been more flowing and articulate afterwards. Could be because of other factors like getting good sleep etc but you know what I mean.
•read •write (what you think) •practice •keep practicing •have something to say •pay attention to who you're talking to •engage Communicate, and do it well

This answer is certainly true. If you're not used to hearing such answers, you might get overloaded with information. Many such answers follow a common pattern: laying out the foundation for the answer, that is, articulating the background assumptions, then examining the thing at hand and finally, drawing conclusions about it. If you can sort out what's about the assumptions, what's about the analysis and what's about the conclusion, then you can understand even quite complex answers.

One thing I would add to his excellent advice: if you are young, allow for the fact that you are young and still learning. Respect yourself as a young person on the way to being a highly accomplished older person. I am 80 and that's how it looks from here. The beautiful courage of young people sometimes takes my breath away.

How to communicate: 1. Read more, write to synthesize your ideas, & practice (know way more about the topic than you have to say} 2. Talk to individuals in the group and get feedback by engaging individually 3. Aim to be a better communicator 4. PRACTICE
Advice to shy people: Sometimes in your life you feel like it is easy to talk and communicate. sometimes not. When you feel it is goes for you smoothly, just talk as much as you can and try to consolidate this ability, feeling and mindset. After some time you will become better at speaking and engaging people.
what a WONDERFUL man he took a simple question, and turned it into a 5 minute in debth answer that a layman could understand. he didn't say anything unachievable by anyone, yet explained exactly how to get there , without insults, without accusations. hell he even had time to compliment the man on first appearances. and his view on how to talk to groups was inspiring. if i could keep this in mind, i wouldn't be afraid to talk to 1000 people, because i wouldn't be..i'd be talking to ...one.
How to communicate according to JP • You need to have 10x the knowledge of the topic you're going to talk about. And then articulate yourself and pin point things that need to be said. • It's intimidating to talk in front of 1000 people, but it's easier to talk to 1 person. So focus on 1 person and speak. That also gives you feedback, whether they're bored, engaged or asleep, in that case move on to the next person. • Write. Writing 15 minutes a day will streamline your thoughts and make articulating your thoughts easier for you. Do that for 10 years daily and you're set. • PRACTICE! Good luck my friend 👍🏼
My dad always used to say that 50 years ago. He said read good writing it will make you more articulate, smarter, a better writer, and a confident speaker because you have the knowledge and information that is hard for people to refute.
every single answer Jordan has to a question has the weight of a thousand peoples advice, with the ability to help pave a better life for someone, somewhere in the world. i wish each helpful and insightful thought Jordan puts into the world effects someone positively because there is so much to take from it.

Many people just don't think before they speak, they trip up. Jordan I love how your mind constantly searches for the right word at the time, and even how you will go back and correct yourself. It's always perfect👍
To pay attention, as mentioned by Peterson, is really key. Russell Brand talked about how as a shy or anxious person, the best way to communcate effectively or to be confident while doing it, so on - is simply try to be helpful. It makes you really listen to what others have to say, whilst also not being overly focused on how others percieve you. Corona messed me up mentally, and this really helped my anxiety. I finally managed to get a job, and just talking to strangers made my anxiety go away. On top of that, reading and writing is obviously immensly important too, just to be able to say what you wanna say.
I like how he Geizes a one word answer, that nails it, he then give him a tool ( reading&writing), and how to add it into your day, and then he brings in examples, then comes back to the person asking the question and ends his monologue with the first word and therefore with the same answer. This is actually pretty well done
One thing I’ve noticed about Jordan Peterson. He never used the words ‘um, uh, eh, ah’ between words when thinking about what he’s going say next. He just stops momentarily while he thinks. And that right there is powerful when it comes to communicating
Along with lots of reading and writing, stand in front of a mirror and practice a conversation over and over. Old sales technique. In sales, the idea is to have a response on hand for every objection. As a formerly very shy person, I found the technique useful for everyday conversation. It helped me stop stammering.
my goosebump pops up when i heard him said 'when i talk to the group, i talk to each individual one at time' this is so powerful and it's like a lightening suddenly enlight my night, makes me know how to be less self-conscious in front of public. it really helps me!

@@thebiblicalawakening4662 the Bible was ripped from the corpus hermiticum almost word for word in some sections. I hate to break the news to you but you're completely insane.
I was a really shy kid that didn't like socializing at all (I still don't at times). But when I studied history at the University, and absorbed all that knowledge I began to notice my speaking became very formal and my sentences well constructed. Before speaking I construct a sentence from countless examples from books in my head, and as dr. Peterson said, that is a skill that is completely overlooked in liberal arts today.
Agree. Was really inarticulate and shy when I was young. Obsessively read, wrote down notes etc. prior to meetings. Overtime, I grew more articulate and confident. It didn't happen overnight but over 10 years.
I love this. I have such a difficult time speaking. I’m not articulate. My mind processes the words quicker than my mouth can say them so I skip words or say simple words. Anxiety also doesn’t help. Reading is helping me. I’m going to take his tip of writing my thoughts down after reading. ❤
Other than practice, here's the gist of what Dr. Peterson was saying: - View communication skills (like any other skill) as input and output - Be well-prepared for communications first by managing your input, understanding the talk subject very well and broadly - Make sure your communicative output is not to a whole audience, but to specific individuals in the audience, one at a time. - One last precious statement from him was about the "incalculable economic benefit" of being able to think, write, speak, and read as a liberal art's bachelor graduate, but I think it applies to any human being with a brain, a will, and a heart as well.
Because there’s reality and fantasy. The people that hate him want to do whatever they want and believe whatever they want. Jordan Peterson however pulls people back to reality and that is uncomfortable for them and so they hate him.
Because he said “no, I’m not doing that” and actually could articulate why and back it up with non controversial arguments. There is nothing more annoying than your opponent being reasonable.

Dr Peterson has helped me to be confident and now I can present myself better in front of others. I practise how to speak to others before having a conversation.
My first experience of speaking in a group setting was when I delivered my dad's eulogy. After that, I had no problems, but wow, what an emotional experience.
In this interview, Jordan Peterson's speech is consistently meaningful, devoid of small talk or empty phrases. The depth of wisdom packed into the 5 minutes content is impressive, covering what to practice, when, how, and why to do so. This video offers a valuable short guide for anyone looking to improve their communication skills.
One great thing about Dr. Peterson is he doesn't gush at people. He could have told the student, "You're doing great!" which is encouraging, but it's not what he was asking. Dr. Peterson answered the actual question.

@@AEONIC_MUSIC it gives you time to organize your thoughts around simple principles and values and allows you to deepen and choose your vocabulary before you speak it out loud. Most people who talk don't even know what they're talking about because they did not take the time to become truly lucid on the subject matter that interests them in the moment.
@@rexjantze296 You are unable to answer AEONIC's question because you don't know what you are talking about. It is very simple. An input is something that goes in. An output is something that comes out. Listening and reading are input. Speaking and writing are output. Please take the time to understand this. Every additional piece of understanding will help you towards thinking clearly, which is a necessary condition for speaking and writing clearly.
@@omp199 Traditionally writing is an output, but in this case Rex is correct. The writing is not the end goal, the end goal is talking to an audience of people. You could throw away or burn what you wrote, it wouldn't affect the outcome. Writing as referred to by JBP is more of a tool to synthesize one's disparate thoughts on the same topic and ideas from different texts one has read into a coherent set of ideas which can then be cohesively conveyed to the audience while speaking. Thus it is a form of input.
@@xn85d2 Nonsense. "Input" means it goes in. "Output" means it comes out. That's it. The distinction between the two words has nothing to do with "end goals". I can vouch for this. I used to have very little social skills. Then I realized that I wasn't going to get very far in the world like that. I figured that the best way to learn anything is through practice, so that's what I did. And after years of powering through the awkwardness, my efforts have payed off. Like any other skill, I'll always have room for improvement, but at least now I'm an effective communicator.

Even if it's just small talk or thanking your waiter at a restaurant. Your brain is designed to be able to communicate with other humans, so as you get more experience you will subconsciously improve your communication skills. Your brain just needs more data to go on, so you have to slog through the awkwardness long enough to get more experience. As someone who is not that much of a good communicator, l find this very helpful. I've been going up and down UA-cam trying to find advice/information on how best l can achieve my goal (which is being articulate) l have to say this is by far the most enlightening piece of advice.
Public speaking is one of my biggest fears. Sometimes talking to someone and having a second person right there listening can be daunting enough. I often feel like I couldn’t get to a point where I’m confident enough to regularly speak in front of people and I’ve come to accept that and just be okay with it. At least for now it rarely ever happens and even though I wish I could overcome this fear, I truly feel like I never will.
You will overcome it Anthony .. take small baby steps & be kind to yourself … no shame .. no blame only action .. every day .. create a routine and a have a structure . You’ll start noticing changes in your vocabulary. Try joining in a small way in conversations.. always leave a group conversation having contributed something , however small , it could be a question or a comment .. it will come through practice… It cannot not happen .. Input = output ….Good luck 👍🏾
There are two things that can help with your fear of speaking whether to a large group or just with two people in the room. First to organize your thoughts beforehand by physically writing it out and practice saying what you want. Even if you're going to talk to a prof or with classmates in a group project because it causes you to ramble less which will make you feel more confident. The second is to talk as much as possible. If you're in a group of people or with classmates don't sit silent, talk and always contribute. If you're always doing it then it's not suddenly this big event when you do. Another thing is some people use low doses of beta blockers when they speak. I just want to express my feelings. Even though this is a short video on how to communicate properly but it did get its job done I am always thankful I was just born at the right time with a vast amount of access of information across the globe.
"Dr. Peterson, your insights on communication are invaluable. The idea of knowing '10 times as much as you are saying' and engaging with individuals rather than a group resonates deeply. It's a reminder that effective communication is not just about speaking, but also about listening and understanding. Your emphasis on the importance of reading, writing, and a liberal arts education in fostering these skills is a much-needed perspective in today's world. Thank you for sharing your wisdom."
The Best Oral Communicators of our time. Dr.Peterson has a way of making his Seminars,Interviews and General Open Discussion Topics seem not only relative but timeless. I Suggest buying his book on the 12 Laws of Life. Read one law every day for a week and apply it. Thank Dr.JP
I really recommend you listen to Robert Sapolsky too. An absolute genius in the realm of biology, has written many amazing books that touch on things Dr.Peterson covers too (even if they are at odds about some things), but above all, in this context, a wonderful orator.
Great question, great answer, great conclusion and ending to a conversation. This is legit. I read one of his books all the way through. It was difficult because it resonated so well with myself but after completing his book. 12 rules to life it really helped me communicate more effectively and direct and objective. Now I am networking more and increasing my value through education, my network with communication, and my value to all the people I surround myself with. It is definitely a journey, not a race to the finish line. Just start somewhere and dont rush it.
"Practice!". This is a the best advice. Nowadays we are flooded with theories and books on how to write and speak and we study them constantly. but then: do we really practice? Do we really do the dirty work of practice?
My biggest problem is that I become too aware of how my body is positioned and what my limbs are doing when I’m talking. Like my awareness to these things becomes very high and my brain is trying to juggle that with what I’m saying and also what she is saying. I become hyper focused on self sabotaging things and it causes the “timing” of my movements and my responses to be a little off sometimes. Nobody has ever said anything to me about it, and I’m generally well liked, but then again, if they noticed it they probably wouldn’t say anything to me. My therapist has told me I’m good socially too so maybe it’s all just in my head and I’m thinking too much. I just feel like I can do so well socially in 90% of a conversation only to have one socially awkward moment near the end and kill a first impression. The socially awkward thing can happen at any time and it constantly feels like I’m fighting against it to make sure it doesn’t happen. It’s an impending doom kind of feeling. Like I feel like I know I’m gonna fuck it up somehow and make the person feel weird, I just don’t know when. Not sure if anyone else can relate to this.
what you are experiencing is way more common than you think. It can even become hard to breathe. Public speaking is extremely difficult to learn and can put us into a fight or flight mode. Dr Peterson’s advice here is spot on. Make yourself a subject matter expert if you can, so that if you do get challenged you have the confidence to steer the conversation back to your points. Get comfortable flipping the question, because you’ve already thought about it from that perspective, too, and this is why you believe what you believe.
To be a good public speaker you need to feel “invincible”. I found that for me it’s always about exaggerating my gestures, facial movements, the tone and loudness of my voice, etc., because oddly enough the only way for me to seem normal (this is how it looks for others) is to exaggerate (this is how it feels to me internally) everything I do. Perhaps I have a very bad case of shyness, but sometimes I really can’t tell that I’m coming across as unsure, not confident and that people don’t take me seriously. People don’t tell you that upfront, but you can see it on their faces. Unfortunately, all these things don’t come naturally to me, and it sucks I have to kinda force it - makes it more unnatural. I just wish this nightmare would end. Alright, I’ll stop feeling sorry for myself now. What you said just struck a chord, that’s why I felt like ranting. Hopefully you can improve yourself and move past these issues, cause there’s a lot more to life.
I had great fear of public speaking when I was young. I had a look at where the fear was coming from, and found it was rooted in body-knowledge, very ancient, that if I raise my head above the anonymous crowd I may be killed. I admitted that reality, and stepped up my body-courage. It helped a lot. I think your over-awareness of your body happens because your body is trying to communicate this to you. That threat can be quite real in times of social upheaval, and should be acknowledged. You can give yourself permission to stay physically grounded without letting your attention be captured. Watch how Dr. Peterson plays with his wedding ring, and strokes the table.
Think calling him a shy kid is a bit rude 🤣. He looks at least 20 and still talks pretty loud and coherently. I think he's trying to figure out how to talk in a precise and intelligent manner, which is a very powerful tool. I don't think the conversation is about how to perform the simple act of communicating or just communicating confidently.
@@beyondwhatisknown if he was shy he wouldn’t have the courage to speak in front of many people, and in front of someone he respects. He also admitted that he isn’t a good communicator (I think he meant to say articulate communicator) in front those people to the man has a lot of respect for. He is not shy at all, he is hungry for self improvement. Shy people worry about how they look to other people. He didn’t care to admit that he isn’t perfect in order to learn something valuable. Many people who aren’t shy wouldn’t have the courage to do that.

I know this practice is full proof! I wasn’t very good in school and I came to Christ at 22 years old and started reading the Bible and I learned a lot of words that I never heard or even used in my life. I began taking notes and studying more and just reading and writing passionately and religiously. I’m 29 now and I’m very confident in the words I use. Some people use them sloppy or ignorantly and you can tell most of them don’t know what words mean. So reading and writing and just having that extra knowledge about “your stuff” goes a long way with time and dedication. Great video!

That's why he is one of the best communicator

Inspiring

Loved the talk to the individual not people, a highly under-valued sentiment
Best speaking advise I've heard. You're not talking to a group, you're talking to individuals.
Have you been reading fiction or nonfiction? If both, have you noticed a difference between the two in terms of how they affect your articulation?
Nothing weird about it. I dont do any thing yet everything is given. Apparently until I learn to do something...
I read all the time, stuff online but not books, does that still count? lol
I feel this.
"You want to know 10x more than what you're talking about" This is excellent advice from personal experience

The Most High wants us to submit to his will through our own decisions. That is why the Messiah says if any man comes to me, let him deny HIMSELF. That is why the word also says to be transformed by the renewing of OUR minds. That’s why it says every man will have to give an account for what he hath done.

This answer is certainly true. If you're not used to hearing such answers, you might get overloaded with information. Many such answers follow a common pattern: laying out the foundation for the answer, that is, articulating the background assumptions, then examining the thing at hand and finally, drawing conclusions about it.
If you can sort out what's about the assumptions, what's about the analysis and what's about the conclusion, then you can understand even quite complex answers.

what a WONDERFUL man he took a simple question, and turned it into a 5 minute in debth answer that a layman could understand. he didn't say anything unachievable by anyone, yet explained exactly how to get there , without insults, without accusations. hell he even had time to compliment the man on first appearances. and his view on how to talk to groups was inspiring. if i could keep this in mind, i wouldn't be afraid to talk to 1000 people, because i wouldn't be..i'd be talking to ...one.
Talking to yourself also helps. Like actual conversations where you’re articulating your feelings and thoughts. Helps a lot
I do that more than 3 decades
How to communicate according to JP
• You need to have 10x the knowledge of the topic you're going to talk about.
That Kid asking the question is on a good way. Really thoughtful and seems very aware and focused.

Russell Brand talked about how as a shy or anxious person, the best way to communcate effectively or to be confident while doing it, so on - is simply try to be helpful. - View communication skills (like any other skill) as input and output
- Be well-prepared for communications first by managing your input, understanding the talk subject very well and broadly
- Make sure your communicative output is not to a whole audience, but to specific individuals in the audience, one at a time.
- One last precious statement from him was about the "incalculable economic benefit" of being able to think, write, speak, and read as a liberal art's bachelor graduate, but I think it applies to any human being with a brain, a will, and a heart as well.

Easy to understand and solidly based in his own lives experiences.
Laura powers what a beautiful name. I was close to having a girlfriend named Laura barrera when she asked me if i wanted to have sex with her but i ran as i am a cowardly male i ran from a very attractive white redheaded female and i regret that i ran because i didnt know what to say or how to react. I was such a pathethic male back then oh how emasculated i used to be god damn the united states!
Writing maps of meaning for 20 + years teaches you a thing about writing
Roman's 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fullness of the Gentiles (MOST modern day Europeans/Caucasians/ etc) be come in. (Yes there are some black “dark skinned” gentile people as well but the main gentiles ruling this world behind the scenes are in fact “white” gentiles. Gentiles are known for being practitioners of lawlessness although not ALL gentiles are lawless but rather Most as a whole.
Part of the blindness is that we would not know who the true Father of Jacob(Israel) was and that we would worship false gods of [wood and stone] partially referring to worship of the cross(wood) and the “idol” of christianity the “jesus” that hangs on the cross tends to be made of (stone). Worship not literally meaning to bow down and speaking in gibberish nonsense tongue waving hands up and down, but rather worshiping meaning “To Submit To/Obey”. The speaking in tongue that some Christians do is nonsense, speaking in tongue only refers to the ability of being able to speak in a language or many languages to spread your message across multiple nations. Smh
Deuteronomy 28:36 TMH shall bring thee, and thy king which thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation which neither thou nor thy fathers have known; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.
Deuteronomy 28:64
And TMH shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone.
Just as important as "what's his name," is "what is not his name."
However, it is 100% certain that his name was not Esus Crios aka “Jesus Christ”, the idol of the Celtics who the Catholics sing at Easter in the Vatican, aka what all surface level “Holy Bible” readers (Commonly identifies as “Christians”) refer to the Anointed One as.
We have been tricked, deceived as a result of the curses of the law (Deut 28-64)...wake up and stop following the lies of the Gentiles that govern this world. True Israel is awakening.
I am no historian but I love researching and proving all truth. It was the so-called "Holy" Roman Catholic Church that banned us from reading certain books. Do not trust the Adversary's agents of deceit and destruction. The Catholic Church is not a good moral compass. Catholic meaning Universal.
They literally crusaded all over the world, had TMH’s people murdered, burned women alive, and made laws against poor people (peasants) from having translated Bibles and books of education in the past.
Who are they to condemn a book for any of us to read? They are certainly in no position to order us and they are most certainly NOT our Creator nor the Savior.
Do not trust those who come in sheep's clothing but are rather ravaging wolves. It has been told of us to be as harmless as doves AND as wise as serpents. For one to be wise, You must research and READ, and educate yourself, AND prove ALL TRUTH. The only one to lead you is The Most High. Pray for insight but don't trust when LIARS tell you NOT to read something but approve of what you “Should”!
It is good that we pray for you, and I do hope you pray for me as well. However, the decision is ours as to whether or not we fully submit to his will.
The Most High wants us to submit to his will through our own decisions. That is why the Messiah says if any man comes to me, let him deny HIMSELF. That is why the word also says to be transformed by the renewing of OUR minds. That’s why it says every man will have to give an account for what he hath done.
It is personal accountability and the sooner we accept this, the closer we will become to actually making the decisions that will make us submit fully to his will
And for those of you who deny the existence of The Most High or don’t take the ancient scriptures seriously, you need to seriously wake up. Biblical prophecy is literally unfolding right before our eyes. This is not a game.
A few notable mentions: Women wearing makeup should repent and change no debate, people who smoke weed (sorcery) should repent and change no debate, people who eat upon the flesh of animals… should reconsider. Everything is going according to prophecy, even ‘they’ have to move accordingly.. Go and sin no more and put in work for the kingdom. He that endureth to the end, the same shall be saved. We’re living in end times yall. APTTMH!

Easy to hear , Tough to Listen , Tougher to practice .... I hope everyone Practice what he said... including me
The skill of communication "makes you spectacularly better in anything and everything" you do
One great thing about Dr. Peterson is he doesn't gush at people. He could have told the student, "You're doing great!" which is encouraging, but it's not what he was asking. Dr. Peterson answered the actual question.
Interesting to hear. My favorite high school teacher was one of the wittiest people i had ever met. He was my english teacher of course. I asked him how i could get as witty as him and he told me to read. Nice to see consistency.
This man is brave enough to ask Jordan such a question, without any slurring is already showing his communication skills are on point.
I learn from listening to Jordan. I try to emulate how he speaks and his inflections. Also yes ! try to write and read everyday
The more knowledge you have, the better you can communicate, that's what I learnt.
And that's exactly what Jordan does, he takes notice of who he's talking to every time! Without fail!🥰
Carpenter here… he’s 100 percent correct. I have a massive head start above my peers due to my ability to communicate to customers and the people I work with.
It’s also why I’m here. Learning to communicate better.
Summary:
Q: How can I communicate/articulate better?
JP:
Inputs -
1- Practice
2- Read a lot (Know 10X more than you have to talk about)
3 - Write for 15 mins / day
Outputs:
1- speak to people individually in a crowd
2- take expressions as feedback from crowd and modulate
How is writing an input?
What you are saying is every bit as nonsensical as saying that if you go on a roller coaster and vomit as a result, the partially digested food does not actually come out of your body, on the grounds that vomiting was not the end goal of your ride on the roller coaster.
"IF YOU ARE REALY A GOOD NEGORIATOR; EVERY BODY LEAVES THE NEGOTIATION THRILLED"
This is so very extremely unbelievably deep and right!
I have never heard Jordan Peterson make a single coherent point, ever.
the part where he talks about writing out what you think really resonated with me. I tend to be socially anxious and avoidant, so at the very least if im not around people who can listen to what i have to say, i can get it out of my head onto paper and look at the thought more objectively, which helps me get perspective on my personal distress and obstacles.
Summary:-
1 - practice
2 - if you are talking about something...have 10x more knowledge ( you have to do lots of reading and writing )
3 - talk to individuals not all of them
4 - skill plus good communication is a deadly combination to be successful...
My favorite contemporary thinker.
The kids honesty is the greatest way to communicate, as I always listen to humble people.
It's crazy how much I feel like I needed to hear this.
I’m glad it was helpful 😋
I have really bad social anxiety and Jordan Peterson has helped me overcome it way more than any therapy I went to
This man explained it the best way ever.
He is absolutely right! Key to success is to paint a picture with words, so others see where you exactly are coming from. Getting people to relate to your own point of view, and communicate with words ideas, as if it is their own; that is how ones own success manifests.
It wasn't necessarily 'aimed' at a 'Shy Nerdy' kid on how to communicate (which was the reason I clicked on this video btw as one of them) but the targeted audience was basically anyone voluntarily willing to improve one's competence in effective communication.
A more suiting title may have been: "Jordan Peterson Teaches How to Communicate and Why"
Thank you for the nicely clipped Video
I can vouch for this. I used to have very little social skills. Then I realized that I wasn't going to get very far in the world like that. I figured that the best way to learn anything is through practice, so that's what I did. And after years of powering through the awkwardness, my efforts have payed off.
Like any other skill, I'll always have room for improvement, but at least now I'm an effective communicator.
What did you do to improve? Like what did you practice in... please help me, I'm exactly in the same position you are in at the beginning
@@muhammedfadi2078 just talk to people. Literally. Whenever you're in a position to talk with someone, consciously force yourself to start a conversation.
You can also try talking to people online in text form because you can gauge their reactions with less risk. This can't be a replacement for in-person experience though, because it's not exactly the same. And you can't get feedback from their body language.
@@muhammedfadi2078 you can also take a writing class. It will help you learn how to condense your thoughts into words and structure your sentences better.
And reading books can help by expanding your vocabulary.
How to communicate:
1. Read a lot
2. Write to learn how to articulate your ideas
3. Know way more about the topic than you have to say (most lecturers are boring because they only know what they're gonna say so they read from a note)
4. In public speaking, You don't talk to the group, you talk to a bunch of individuals
5. Aim to be a better communicator
6. PRACTCE
I started reading books on communication at the age of 15. Now, 2 decades later, it has made a great difference
It's easy for him to express his thoughts in a good manner in which we communicate to him subconsciously without knowing because he preach what he practice to himself. It's a good way of giving advice, to do your own thing and share it with other when necessary.
Every word coming from Jordan Peterson is diamond! Cant appreciate how jam packed his words are!
the amount of respect i have for this guy has always been in a positive trend
I could listen to Jordan speak for ages, always something to learn. What a great role model
I love this man.
Imagine if what he's teaching that's actually of proper use was common place. Would you still?
@@einarabelc5 Not sure what you mean.
Just make sure you don't have low blood pressure or you could pass out and only take the minimum dose or even half the minimum dose. Its a drug but it works like a magic pill, like you literally don't get nervous it's crazy.
I’m the same way
Dr. Peterson is definitely a great example of how to communicate.
To communicate is a graciously gift

JORDAN is a wonderful man.i love you .
Does this guy ever say ‘uuuuh’, when looking for words? Couldn’t spot a single ‘uh’. Respect!
In 5minutes he explain what some would pay hundreds of pounds or dollars for in lessons. Respect
I started reading to my girlfriend and it really helped me with the fumbling of my words and stuttering
I appreciate the spacing between the Expo markers and their uniform direction
Great question, great answer, great conclusion and ending to a conversation. This is legit. I read one of his books all the way through. It was difficult because it resonated so well with myself but after completing his book. 12 rules to life it really helped me communicate more effectively and direct and objective. Now I am networking more and increasing my value through education, my network with communication, and my value to all the people I surround myself with. It is definitely a journey, not a race to the finish line. Just start somewhere and dont rush it.
Powerful message - " if you are good at communicating as carpenter, you are like 10 times better as a carpenter."
I've learned so much from him, and he always gives practical advice that you can put into action right away.
"If you're a very good negotiator, everyone walks away from the negotiation happy." This line hits me hard.
Where the shy kid at?
Lol
"Practice!". This is a the best advice. Nowadays we are flooded with theories and books on how to write and speak and we study them constantly. but then: do we really practice? Do we really do the dirty work of practice?

I respect the placement of the markers behind Sir Jordan.
And what a great dialogue!!
I can relate
he started with the word practice, gave a beautiful advice, and then ended on same word...PRACTICE
I'm not a shy person, but one of my novel character is a shy person so this will actually still help. Thanks, Jordan! Thanks UA-cam!
Something about this video hits different.
It's like a super real window to Jordan Peterson mind and his way of living.
He looks shy. He's asking for help communicating. That's shyness.
Many people who aren’t shy wouldn’t have the courage to do that.
i wish i could communicate like this "shy" student
@@sirmeurtrier6951 it's about environment and person you are taking to ....
Jordan Peterson is easy to talk to rather than a group of teenagers or your friends at work place.
This is also great advice for content creators, communicating your ideas well will make you better at engaging with you audience, ty JP
Jordan can sit and talk with the wisdom of a grandfather and makes us all go back to that point in our lives. Thats why hes so effective, he speaks with nurturing respect but in a very masculine way.
