Do not use this video as a guide for wrenching on your bike. I double and triple check that everything is torqued to spec and adjusted. There are also other things I do to get ready for the track such as: clean, lube and adjust chain, check/flush coolant, deglaze rotors, break-in brake pads, apply safety wire, remove headlight bulbs, remove turn signals, apply tape to lights, etc.
Hey Cuban. Enjoyed your video. Quick tip for you: When removing your oil filter, wrap a piece of tin foil all the way around your pipes. When your done, you can just pull it off and throw it away. No oil on your pipes or and springs.
Wow that's the easiest access to air filter I've ever seen :D good stuff, man... This speechless short video is worth more than many of the oversubscribed youtubers' nonstop blathering out there.
Really amazing! The time you must put in with video placement and editing is impressive and much appreciated. Keep up the great content...have fun on the track day!!! :-) looking forward to that video!!
Thanks Edson. I like how the stock end can sounds and even how it looks, but I had to replace it because it got damaged. The Arrow should give me a little bit of weight savings. 🙂
Well-produced video. Good camera angles and quality. Good luck today. It's fortunate you picked today rather than yesterday, which was obviously a complete washout. I'm going to try to do the upcoming 316 July event if I can get a wife pass out of family events.
Thanks Tom. The track is actually tomorrow, which should have even better weather allowing today to dry things off. Really looking forward to it, hopefully it's a good one.
@@CubanRider Have you used the Michelin Power 5 before? How do they compare to the Q3 Plus, or even Q4? Between the tires, new pads and a bit more lightening, you seem to be pulling out the stops to get under that 2:30 lap pace. Good luck and be safe. The weather should be perfect for good times.
@@bernhtp thank you, hoping everything works out tomorrow. I intend to put the Power GP on the back when the Cup 2 wears out. The Power 5 is probably comparable to the S22s, the GP should have more grip for track work.
I love this edit keep these coming! Maybe one of these days I can meet you at COTA/H2R with my 2016 Multistrada Pikes Peak and you can compare back to back!
The Power cup2 is really on another level. The griplevel they have is insane! I love them on track! I wish you alot of fun and all the best tomorrow on track. I will be on track tomorrow also, but in The Netherlands 🙂
Cover the headers in a sheet of aluminum foil and put a drain hole in it between the primaries to keep from having to wipe down the headers. Worked great for my naked bike that had the same drain location.
Just a suggestion. When you take off the oil filter cover the pipes with tin foil. Will save them from getting oil all over them. Cool prep though. Excellent editing
I'm running next weekend. Just swapped my tires for metzeler TD track day slicks. I made my own tire changer over the winter. Similar to max2h. Full setup now for track preparation. Wish we where neighbours, be cool to hang out. Korea may be little far. Lol. I have similar wrenching style. How do like those pads, i just honned my rotors lots of glazing from EBC HH pads.
Nice man, the Racetec TD should be crazy sticky. Will you be using tire warmers? Last couple track days I have been running EBC's EPFA which is a 50/50 Street/Track without complaints, no fade. This time I wanted to try their GPFAX line which is their most aggressive (also very expensive), for racetrack only. The one disadvantage is that they're harsher on the rotors. I'll switch back to the EPFA after the track day. I ran their HH for some time, but that's a more street oriented (and cheaper) pad. I definitely experienced brake fade when I ran them at the track.
@@CubanRider I run warmers every time. Just coming off metzeler racetec K3, so pumped to see improvement. I swapped to rsc19 MC too which helps. I'll have to try those pads later in season. Look forward to seeing your next track videos.

What's that carbon fiber tail piece you put on, do you have a brand or anything? Do you typically run the OEM luggage rack on the street? I've been debating if I want to keep the luggage rack and OEM fender or clean up the back-end a bit with something like the BMW grab handles and tail tidy, etc.... Love the video! Keep 'em coming, your videos were instrumental in me picking up a Triple Black XR
Watching you ride your XR has me intrigued with the bike. I have an R1250GS and a 790 Duke. I would love a Duke with cruise control and wind protection like an XR. Does the XR feel that agile and sporty, or is it closer to the GS?
Unfortunately I didn't take video of a new exhaust. It was part of putting the bike together after a deer incident a couple of summers ago. If given the choice I would've kept the stock muffler. It's a little heavier, but I really liked how it sounded coupled to the aftermarket headers.
Hey Cuban! Im sure youve answered this before but I cant find it. What footpeg risers do you use? I was riding in 1 rider mode (at the track day today) and felt great suspension wise but was running out of ground clearance. Then I did 1 rider + luggage which gave me the clearance but then became quite bouncy. What suspension mode do you ride in for your weight? I weigh 83kgs. Thanks!
Could you please make a video with removing the whole body from the xr? There is no other video on UA-cam how to do That.. Btw awesome Skills!! Nice greetings from Vienna
Thanks Nigel. I have not tried these ones yet, but yes, they work best at the track with the extra heat; this is why EBC recommends not to run them on the street. I can recommend the EPFA ones (ebcbrakes.com/product/extreme-pro-brake-pads/), those are the ones I ran on the last track days and I really liked them.
hola Cuban, me podrias contestar el por qu castrol power 1 y no otro tipo de aceite ni otra marca? gracias de antemano, son muy buenos tus videos. saludos.
Awesome vid, but you want to reconsider "pre-oiling" your oil filter. What you're doing is introducing un-filtered oil into the engine...even if it comes "straight from the bottle".
Thanks dude. I'm not too worried about a little contamination from new oil. I put just enough to get the filter element wet and make it a little easier for the oil to reach where it needs to go.
uhhh, TDude: .... when you add new oil through the filler hole after you drain out the old stuff, are you not introducing "un-filtered oil" to the engine?? It's unavoidable and there's no harm.
@@jimwilson7592 Yes, you have a good point in that the "unfiltered oil" will trickle down the case into the oil pan. I'm more concerned in what's being sucked thru the oil pump and into the bearings. I have seen specks in new oil...not to mention plastic bottle shavings and maybe even parts of foil seal. Large truck filters are indeed pre-filled, but that oil is filtered. Just my 2 cents. :)
Question: why detach all those things from the bike like mirrors, lights, passenger seat, crash protectors etc. ? Is it track regulations or aerodynamics? I’ve never been on the track but I assumed some do have a safety benefit, especially mirrors and brake lights? Do they really make a difference in terms of aerodynamics?
Weight savings mostly. If you keep the mirrors and lights you would have to tape them, so it's easier to remove them. I'm sure it will help the aerodynamics ever so slightly, but it won't make a drastic changes,

If there is 1 thing i'm thankful for is how easy it is to remove things from this bike. Some bike's I've had in the past had the most intricate designs for stuff like tail tidies and passenger grips. 2:24 seems like you got bored of the foil technique 🤣🤣Also how do you fill your bike with oil? the owners manual has some cryptic BS method, warm the bike up, turn it off, check level on centre stand immediately after turning off. Apparently as the oil drains from the top end the window will be filled up and that's how it should be but I seriously cant imagine BMW coming up with such a dumb way to check oil level...
Haha, I wipe down the oil that drips to keep things shiny 😄 it does create a bit of a smoke show after the fact. To fill the oil I put 3 qts which takes it up to the top of the glass, start it up, check or leaks, and let it settled for a little while. Than I come back and add the 0.3 qt remaining which brings it back to 1/2 through the sight glass. I pretty much do the same with all the bikes and the cars. Both the truck and GTI take 6 qts of oil. I put an entire 5 qts jug and start the engine, then I add the final qt later.
@@CubanRider Well, i guess you had no issues so it must be perfectly fine. I finally got to start using mine properly and already put 2.5k miles on it in a month so I'll be looking to change the oil soon.
