      Hi Debra! I agree, when designing a pond one of my goals is to have the pond, or any water feature, look like it occurred naturally. Sometimes achieving that is a challenge.

    This was awesome! I have a small red eared slider turtle, and in a year or two, when it gets too large to keep indoors without needing a 100 some odd gallon tank. I plan on making my own pond for it (though nothing nearly as large as the one in the video, I don't even think my yard has the amount of square footage as that pond.)

      Hi Jamie, thanks for reaching out. There is no real standard for pricing on projects like these. • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 років тому +1

      Hi Jason. The pond was not really designed for humans to swim in it, but it is big enough and 3' deep in most of it, so if someone chose to go into it and splash around they certainly could; and its nice filtered water. The liner has a manufacture rated 40 year life expectancy, but they can last longer when covered over and protected with rock and gravel.

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 років тому

      Hi Robert, the method of construction that we use does not require the bottom drain, however we do actually have subtle grading for maintenance purposes.

    • @robertkocher3534
      @robertkocher3534 7 років тому

      Thanks for the reply Mike. I know you can't go into too much detail here, but considering all those trees, how is the homeowner getting those leaves out of the pond in November? I know you've got the pond recirculating almost once/hour (23K gal/hr of a 26K gal pond), but the skimmers won't be able to keep up in the fall.
      All in all, it's a beautiful renovation. Do you have a storefront in Summit? I have a friend that lives there. I'd like to visit your store when I visit him. Thanks.

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 років тому

      Hi Robert. The pond gets covered during the month of October while leaves are really coming down because there is NO system that will keep up with the leaves. After the deluge of falling leaves the netting is removed and the skimmers do a great job of clearing surface debris during the rest of the year. We are based in Summit, but no storefront, my company has a warehouse that is not open to the public, but you'd be welcome to visit!!

    Looking through the comments, I was unable to find any questions in regards to the price that a job of this magnitude would require. With the 26,000 gallons of water, large and small rocks and stones, water feature, man power and hourly rates, etc. How much would a job like this or this particular one cost?
    Thank you

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 років тому +1

      Hey Kevin. As you guessed I can't say how much this particular project was because I can't disclose how much clients are investing in the projects. However a project like this would be in a range of $40K - $60K.

    Nice job. Do you know how large the energy consumption is? Just approximately. Greets from Germany ;)

      Thanks Achim. The 2 pumps are high efficiency, and probably costs $50.00 month to run them both full time.

      Can you list the expenses of a project like this in the order of most expensive to least. I'm thinking maybe i can cut down the price by getting some of the materials myself.

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  8 років тому

      The rockwork and labor are the higher cost items, the materials like liner, filters, etc were less of a cost. The labor number does not matter since you are DIY, and labor varies from company to company. Rock was the biggest ticket item because of the large amount we needed, rock pricing can vary wildly depending on where you are located.

    what was the liner and its thickness used in this construction? Was there underlayment? Is there a particular type of liner you suggest for 100sqft type or bigger

    • @thePondHunter
      @thePondHunter  7 років тому

      Hello Rylee. On this project we used a 45mil EPDM pond liner, it is the industry standard and has a 40 year life expectancy. We used a geotextile underlayment material before liner was installed. For your 100sqft pond I'd still use the 45mil EPDM as liner.

    1 year later, algae covered rocks as far as the eye can see. Looks "clean" initially, but where's the UV, Ozone or nutrient export to keep it that way?
