Well, Caine did say back in episode 1 that he has control over everything except for their minds, and I'm sure memories of their lives before entering the circus has to do with their minds.
The characters forgetting about their past lives is a common misconception that was cleared up by Goosewerx. The only thing said in episode 1 was that they can’t remember their names. Most people took that and thought it implied they have no memory at all. They can remember their entire lives outside of the circus except for their names
57 in numerology also signifies change, transformation, and spiritual growth. Seeing it frequently could be a reminder to stay positive and embrace opportunities for personal development, or it could also indicate that you are on the right path or that significant changes are occurring in your life. Not sure if it's intentional, but the numerological symbolism of the number 57 actually fits pretty well with the themes of The Amazing Digital Circus
I was watching this with my best friend, and since I have not been doing well mentally recenyly, when a certain scene happened he hugged me, I really felt what Gangle is going through this episode
Note: On the Wacky Watch website, it has the menu for Spudsy's and the description for The Slab is that it's made of "carefully curated human meat". It's very likely this questionable ingredient choice was just Caine re-using the assets for all that "human meat" that was supposed to be used in the Curse of the Violent Psychopath Butcher adventure he canceled.
57:26 Also, here you notice that the area behind Jax leads to the drive-thru register, while just a few moments later it morphs into the spooky door leading to the Training room. My theory is that Caine making Gangle the shift manager either gives her some limited admin privileges or control over the restaurant, or in that she somehow communicated with Caine to grab Jax and send him to the hastily made Training Room. Also, her training video probably wasn't really prerecorded. Gangle could have just teleported herself into the TV so she could mess with Jax by playing out the training video in real time before turning on the clockwork orange stuff.
I definitely do think that when Gangle talked about the web comic stuff, I think she was definitely talking about herself because we know that she likes to draw because of what happens at the end of this episode
Also, I can't help but think it's another thing that doesn't fit in the 90s/early 2000s time period. I could be wrong, but I don't think web comics became big until the 2010s and later (at least that's when I really started to notice them).
@@nemesisstar813 I googled it, and apparently the first comic/manga was created in 1814 but it looked a lot different than, than it does now. But they actually started to became popular worldwide in the 1990s. During the 1990s, they were only really in newspapers and they were just called comics. Sorry that this is so long, but I even googled when was the first Web comic created and it said in 1985. Sorry I know this is probably a lot more information than you wanted, but I guess it’s just cool to know anyway. And I only really knew about the comic newspaper stuff. I didn’t know about any of this other stuff. 😅
Fun Fact: In Cains office there's a bright red book with the words "Matpat Theory" on the shelf! They've FINALLY made a reference towards y'all/him! 👑🏆🎮📚
It’s ok to be happy and “emotional” that a character reappears in a show if you had an emotional connection to them, but… maybe it can be a little worrying.
I love the scene of gangle getting hit by traffic, because of the reference. In a lot of Japanese media, characters get hit by traffic before being transported into some other world. A lot of people got that wrong and misinterpreted it.
Maybe it's a representation of how she's kinda fragile (like her masks) and too flexible to have any structure to push back against people. Ribbons always remind me of Christmas, too. How a ribbon signifies the care someone put into something, and how decorations held up with ribbons are prettier, but don't last as long.
Oh my god when Ragatha says “packages landing on my head, dancing lessons, tea parties” it’s from the song that Raggedy Andy sings in the song ‘No girls toy’ from the movie the musical adventure featuring Raggedy Anne and Raggedy Andy! LOVE THIS CALL BACK! I recognized it immediately!
Personally, I wonder if this may lead to Gangle actually WANTING to stay in the Digital Circus after growing to hate her old life. I think that would be quite fascinating and, in a way, could lead to a tragic villain arc for her.
As a neurodivergent person, I love this episode's way of showing masking in such a literal sense. Also Gangle's relationship with it being so mied URGG IT HITS HOME
personally i believe the comedy mask is representing the mask depressed people often will put on rather than her being happy go lucky. and when something goes wrong her mask breaks until she wakes up the next day with a new mask. cause if u think about it we dont know where she gets her new masks from, they never imply that cane gives her a new one just every new ep she just has a new mask.
I have a theory for Film Theory: I think Jax is the real first character out of the cast. In episode 4, his car says Jax 001 implying that he is the first. Not to mention, he seems to know a lot about the world, knowing how to get keys, where things are and what Caine's nature is. He gets bored from being there too long, only maintaining his sanity through harassing others
It's been confirmed that Kinger is the oldest, both in the real world (43) and being in the circus the longest. In the real world Jax is actually the youngest at 22, Zooble is the same age but they're older by six months, obviously he's not the youngest in the circus but he probably hasn't actually been there for very long.
I actually have a pretty solid idea for why there’s water when Caine breaks the suggestion box. many times in games if there is a body of water, people will put the body of water below the entirety of the map and bring it up to where the water is rather than just place it somewhere in the world. Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the wild do this actually! But sometimes when water had to go to certain places, they will drag it upwards from the bottom of the map to get there, and since there is a “Digital Lake” near the Circus Tent, its entirely possible that the water is being dragged up THROUGH the pillar to get the lake!
Just an observation I've seen other people online talking about, but when Jax says "Genuinely hurtful" if you pay close attention to his facial expressions you can see a hint of what feels like sadness after a moment.
I like how they might have been going with a sort of "Clockwork Orange" vibe with Jax in a dark room with a tv and being held against his will to watch the tv. a reference i presume.
I have a short theory on why Caine is so fixated on getting zooble to join adventures- instead of him being focused on his own ideas- Ragatha said that the adventures are used to keep their minds stimulated so they don’t go crazy- zooble starting to not join them on the adventures might have caused Caine to want to keep them from abstracting- so he’s trying to force them to go on them so zooble gets distracted. And won’t have to abstract
Wanted to point out that the only thing that charters forget when entering the circus is their name basically everything else about their lives before they can remember
Something that I have thought since I first saw this episode is that Gangle is a metaphor for how some people deal with depression. Her regular comedy mask is a front she tries to put on hiding how she is really feeling. But the mask Zooble gives her is almost like anti-depressants, it’s harder to break. It’s harder to break, but Gangle doesn’t feel like herself. Based on how other character like Zooble represent emotional issues, this feels very believable
56:22 He most likely does since he went out of bounds of the candy kingdom it may have caused a slight change in his code that allowed him to retain the memories of her but maybe caine was only capable of blocking memories of things like appearances and knowing caine if he can reuse npcs he can definitely delete and remake them which could be why they're not able to directly speak to each other outside of the adventures' route cause if gummigoo did try to speak to pomni and caine found out he could very easily just make a brand new gummigoo with no memory of anyone he's met.
yeah, but picture this, you go to eat at a fast food place, an employee start behaving weird when speaking to you, creeps out to your seat, and then says your name when you never told them your name. I would have the same reaction
35:29 "Non-dairy" in the food industry is a misleading label. Having worked in fast food from 2005-2008, I can confirm that shake machine mixes were indeed considered to be "non-dairy" because the _actual_ milk content was insufficient to qualify as a dairy product. Even non-dairy creamer frequently is labelled subtly, "Contains milk."
Gangle is female, so it's her not him. I believe the pronouns are: Pomni: she/her Ragatha: she/her Jax: he/him Gangle: she/her Kinger: he/him Zooble: they/them Caine: he/him
i just lost my Opa and having this channel still running and seeing how they have all grown brings me so much joy during this holiday season. thanks so much ash and everyone on the theorist team!
Fun fact: the range of motion when throwing a softball is actually more natural! The arms movement in the shoulder girdle is best supported and facilitated when moving in a circular motion (ie underhanded pitching). Throwing overhand requires more movement in the rotator cuff and puts a lot of strain on the tendons running from the elbow into the hand. This is why we see more injuries in baseball pitchers than softball pitchers!
a thing my brain connected when you noticed the line about the manic episode: when someone suffers from depression for their whole life and suddenly get a treatment of some kind [medication for example] then it can feel like they suddenly have manic episodes especially if they were given the wrong treatment or too high a dose. there's also the matter that if you're used to a pattern of either feeling okay enough to be productive or feeling so severe that you just need to curl up and cry for a while then suddenly getting an in-between state of mind can be hard to adapt to. kind of a mental pattern that roughly translates like 'if i can walk then i can run'. i once tried to do a questionnaire thing on my own for depression and accidentally got bipolar as the answer, because when your emotional range never dips above a 7 then it's hard to imagine what a 9 would be like just slight stream of consciousness, might be of note if the theorist team decide to do a deep-dive into gangle

Does Team Theorist Know that Gooseworx that Everyone trapped in TADC are actual humans and not NPCs and that the Number 57 is Gooseworx's favorite Number? From What I could gather.
to be honest, 57 also works very well in regards to the theme of the show, as in numerology, 57 signifies change, transformation, and spiritual growth. Not sure if that is intentional or not, but interesting nonetheless.

57 also has an interesting connotation in numerology, signifying change, spiritual growth, and transformation, which fits in well with the themes of the show. No wonder it's Gooseworx's favorite number.
Haven't seen anybody point this out yet, but if you look at Caine's drawings of bees, you can see that he drew Barry from the Bee Movie. It's very faint but it's there. A Bee Movie reference, out of anything in this episode, was the very last thing I was expecting.
Go to 00:30 in the original video, in that you can see a large green square to the right of Jax, on the corner of that square, you can zoom in and see a mannequin watching the group from afar.
About the 57's, In numerology, the number 57 is associated with a strong desire for change, personal freedom, and spiritual awakening. The number 5 represents adventure, adaptability, and self-discovery, while the number 7 is linked to intuition, spiritual awareness, and inner wisdom. Obviously, we can draw the hypothesis its cause the people in the circus want freedom and more change to their digital lives. Hope this makes someone intrested! :)
With the Gummigoo scene where he's about to reach out I dont think that was a 'do I remember something' but rather a 'how do you know my name' thing given he never actually gave it to her this episode.
I have had a manager like Gangle is in this episode... Now we saw a bit behind the mask, and the humanity in Gangle, but lemme tell you that manager she reminds me of was a nightmare. Genuinely I think he would've ran over one of us with a truck if it would get him promoted- dude was a sociopath
What I think is happening with 57 is technically a lead away from what it really means as in 1956 the Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence was the first instance of the creation of AI from human contraception of the idea of a self-learning program.
In the first episode, I think you know the the blinks. The blinks the blinks the blinks. The blinks are a hive mind.I think cause they all connect back to the queen , and I think there's a high mind

13:27 i think this is actually the top part of the venus de milo statue, with the bottom part being covered by Gangle's head. apparently the statue is supposed to be aphrodite
Man this episode has all the fast food worker stereotype The high/drunk one-Ragatha The actual worker(s)-Zooble and Pomni The lazy/idc about this- Jax The employee who is never there- kinger The crazy manager-Gangle
Did you know that the number "57" has been in every episode so far? In episode one, it's on a block in the Gloink cave. In episode two, it's where Caine says that the AI in the adventure would be 57 times more immersive. In episode three, it's where Baron Theodore Midenhall's wife says that Baron could turn a 57 second story into a Greek tragedy. And in episode four, you've found all of them. Try to find the 57's in future episodes!
I think that's because 57 is Gooseworx's favorite number, though it also has an interesting connection to the show through numerology, where 57 signifies transformation, change, and spiritual growth--which fits in well with the themes of the show.
So one thing to point out cuz I looked it up but in 1956-62 the Atlas computer was designed. From what I could find it was basically the first modern computer & more importantly pioneered VIRTUAL MEMORY
Goosworx has already said themselves that they retain almost all of their memories from before the circus. They just don't remember their names basically
1:02:50 The flashing mask on the TV when jax is having his "employee evaluation" the flashing paired with the music reminds me heavily of the scene in Halloween 3 season of the witch (I think that was the title) I think it really helps to tie in with the fact that gangle is going full horror character in that scene, being able to hear jax through the screen tieing him up in those hands and then giving him a re-evaluation. Very spooky
Fun fact I stumbled on to . "Pomni" is a real word. It's "Remember" in Slovenian . Feels like an odd choice for a name to just be happen stance , right ?

100% agree
@erika_itsumi5141 She definitely learned from Mat's way of hosting and is keeping the traditions of gtlive. But the dynamics and vibe has changed.
29:08 i think gooseworks said 57 was their favorite number but i cant fully remeber
Yeah, I think she did day that somewhere on Twitter(?)
I was watching this with my best friend, and since I have not been doing well mentally recenyly, when a certain scene happened he hugged me, I really felt what Gangle is going through this episode
I really hope this shoe can continue doing that for people. Really hope it eventually goes down in history with the love and reputation it deserves 🙏🙏
Same same. Been having a really rough time, too. You're not alone.
Agreed, it makes complete sense

Yeah no get help that's weird
You are too emotional, that's really not ok, that's actually concerning.
what's with these replies, what's wrong with someone being emotionally attached to a character
@@MaggieHunter Ikr, I think they ain’t ok. It’s fine to cry over a character
I somehow got that despite not watching that kind of anime. Of course, I've seen the memes, so that's probably enough info.
Truck-kun strikes again.
Truck-kun!!
It's probably people who don't want anime that much, or rather don't watch Isekai, cause you can be an anime fan and still stay away from Isekai anime
Especially because she apparently likes drawing Mangas and tried to make it doing that
What if gangles true body is mangled by her incident and that's why she's a gangle of ribbons.
Her body is as phisically twisted as her game form.
That would be pretty quirky, but I don’t think it’s likely
I guess you could say she’s a mangled mess 😉😉
Maybe it's a representation of how she's kinda fragile (like her masks) and too flexible to have any structure to push back against people. Ribbons always remind me of Christmas, too. How a ribbon signifies the care someone put into something, and how decorations held up with ribbons are prettier, but don't last as long.
@@LunaWitcherArt girlie ate with that 🗣🗣🔥🔥🔥

Also Gangle's relationship with it being so mied URGG IT HITS HOME
so mied?
@@GalekC girl huh?-
personally i believe the comedy mask is representing the mask depressed people often will put on rather than her being happy go lucky. and when something goes wrong her mask breaks until she wakes up the next day with a new mask. cause if u think about it we dont know where she gets her new masks from, they never imply that cane gives her a new one just every new ep she just has a new mask.
51:49 imo, hes just shocked someone knows his name when he never stated it.
Yeah but here’s the thing Orbsman didn’t react when he was called out
Why did Gummygoo?
@mephilesthelight4644 isnt orbsman the owner of the establishment?
I actually have a pretty solid idea for why there’s water when Caine breaks the suggestion box. many times in games if there is a body of water, people will put the body of water below the entirety of the map and bring it up to where the water is rather than just place it somewhere in the world. Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the wild do this actually! But sometimes when water had to go to certain places, they will drag it upwards from the bottom of the map to get there, and since there is a “Digital Lake” near the Circus Tent, its entirely possible that the water is being dragged up THROUGH the pillar to get the lake!
y’all thought you could hide in the comment section for the trailer
YOU thought you could hide in the comment section of GT live broski 😭🙏
Huh?
Just an observation I've seen other people online talking about, but when Jax says "Genuinely hurtful" if you pay close attention to his facial expressions you can see a hint of what feels like sadness after a moment.
I don't know if I was the only one to see this but I saw a 57 in Zooble's room on the dice
I like how they might have been going with a sort of "Clockwork Orange" vibe with Jax in a dark room with a tv and being held against his will to watch the tv. a reference i presume.
25:00 "WAIT! THEY DONT LOVE YOU LIKE I LOVE YOU"
I have a short theory on why Caine is so fixated on getting zooble to join adventures- instead of him being focused on his own ideas- Ragatha said that the adventures are used to keep their minds stimulated so they don’t go crazy- zooble starting to not join them on the adventures might have caused Caine to want to keep them from abstracting- so he’s trying to force them to go on them so zooble gets distracted.
I saw the names of the books were “Eggs” “Gloinks” “Mindere X” and “Matpat Theory”
also XDDCC, the first name presented to Pomni in the first episode
@xtremxd3837 yeah true I'd be pretty confused too
i fear that gummigoo's situation might be very similar to something of foo fighters &or gyro from jojo's (goose is a fan of that series)
I love how Ash said the mannequin sounded like one of their friends when ive been saying it sounds like Ash since it came out... O_o
Surprised she hasn't played "bad parenting" yet
probably the reason they stopped omori
35:29 "Non-dairy" in the food industry is a misleading label. Having worked in fast food from 2005-2008, I can confirm that shake machine mixes were indeed considered to be "non-dairy" because the _actual_ milk content was insufficient to qualify as a dairy product. Even non-dairy creamer frequently is labelled subtly, "Contains milk."
I'm glad Ash keeps the tradition of turning a 20 minute video into an hour long reaction. Love ya Ash, keep it up!
10:00 The dices make the number 57, once again
11:24 Is that a reference to the fact that in concept art Pomni had a horn!
Gangle is the perfect way to analogize masking. I absolutely sympathize with her and this is my second favorite episode yet.
her*
Gangle is female, so it's her not him.
I believe the pronouns are:
Pomni: she/her
Ragatha: she/her
Jax: he/him
Gangle: she/her
Kinger: he/him
Zooble: they/them
Caine: he/him

25:29 to quote Gooseworx: "The circus members do remember parts of their lives. It's just their names they forgot"
In ref to: The non-dairy thing. It's possible it's a reference to how McDonald's used to not use real dairy or ice cream to make their milkshakes.
i just lost my Opa and having this channel still running and seeing how they have all grown brings me so much joy during this holiday season. thanks so much ash and everyone on the theorist team!

This is why we see more injuries in baseball pitchers than softball pitchers!
a thing my brain connected when you noticed the line about the manic episode: when someone suffers from depression for their whole life and suddenly get a treatment of some kind [medication for example] then it can feel like they suddenly have manic episodes especially if they were given the wrong treatment or too high a dose.
there's also the matter that if you're used to a pattern of either feeling okay enough to be productive or feeling so severe that you just need to curl up and cry for a while then suddenly getting an in-between state of mind can be hard to adapt to. kind of a mental pattern that roughly translates like 'if i can walk then i can run'.
i once tried to do a questionnaire thing on my own for depression and accidentally got bipolar as the answer, because when your emotional range never dips above a 7 then it's hard to imagine what a 9 would be like
just slight stream of consciousness, might be of note if the theorist team decide to do a deep-dive into gangle
48:50 I just want to mention during that trash freakout, you were looking at the trashcan that is typically in restaurants that serve their food on trays and not the mannequin's table, and there is a wet floor sign near another part that she was freaking out about... Thank you for that laugh though and for making this video
Hi Ash! So glad you saw my favorite episode! And yes, it is confirmed that this is Gangles episode!
1957: Creation of Fairchild Semiconductor and the Birth of AI at Dartmouth College

Gummigoo reacted strongly to a stranger knowing his name without an introduction.
25:59 TBF it was stated by the creator themselves that they don't loose the memories of their past lives they just forget their names when they enter the circus

11:25 what Jax said here is also a 4th wall break because that is in their comic where pomni wear that unicorn horn.
Did any notice the very stacked burger at 40:10 the top stack is 5 the bottom is 7 also the 1957 could be for the first img scan to a PC that happened on seac
Also bk had a rebrand in 1957 bk started to use the king mascot a new public face for company
57 also has an interesting connotation in numerology, signifying change, spiritual growth, and transformation, which fits in well with the themes of the show. No wonder it's Gooseworx's favorite number.
there’s something so refreshing about seeing jax confused for once
Yay! This is my favourite episode by far! I hope you enjoy (haven’t watched the reaction yet)
The communal guy indeed! 45:20
Dunno if others realized this but when Zooble gets dropped down the trap door it did two honks, reminiscent of in willy wonka when Veruca Salt is evaluated as a "Bad Egg"
the number 57 has been confirmed by gooseworks as their favorite number and a kind of inside joke as well
Me when Ash over analyzes the number 57 when it's just and inside joke between the indie animation community.
Not them overthinking the duck in Zoobles room
13:27 i think this is actually the top part of the venus de milo statue, with the bottom part being covered by Gangle's head. apparently the statue is supposed to be aphrodite
Man this episode has all the fast food worker stereotype
The high/drunk one-Ragatha
The actual worker(s)-Zooble and Pomni
The lazy/idc about this- Jax
The employee who is never there- kinger
The crazy manager-Gangle
Did you know that the number "57" has been in every episode so far? In episode one, it's on a block in the Gloink cave. In episode two, it's where Caine says that the AI in the adventure would be 57 times more immersive. In episode three, it's where Baron Theodore Midenhall's wife says that Baron could turn a 57 second story into a Greek tragedy. And in episode four, you've found all of them. Try to find the 57's in future episodes!
I think that's because 57 is Gooseworx's favorite number, though it also has an interesting connection to the show through numerology, where 57 signifies transformation, change, and spiritual growth--which fits in well with the themes of the show.
also, the dice in Zooble's room also form the number 57
So one thing to point out cuz I looked it up but in 1956-62 the Atlas computer was designed.
From what I could find it was basically the first modern computer & more importantly pioneered VIRTUAL MEMORY
Along with the first computer scanned image which was on SEAC
"I'm gonna be real"
-Caine
Goosworx has already said themselves that they retain almost all of their memories from before the circus. They just don't remember their names basically
It feels like Cain is taking info from the memories of the cast or trying to like an AI using the casts memories as input data
Very spooky
I had the same impression. Add in the references to masks and it becomes even closer to Halloween 3.
30:02 this response feels like an AI congratulating you on your idea.
Fun fact I stumbled on to . "Pomni" is a real word. It's "Remember" in Slovenian . Feels like an odd choice for a name to just be happen stance , right ?
It's also interesting to note the repetition of the number 57 in this episode. In numerology, 57 signifies change, transformation, and spiritual growth. Seeing it frequently may indicate that you are on the right path or that significant changes are occurring in your life. It could also be a reminder to stay positive and embrace opportunities for personal development.
