When I first heard Spirit’s “12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus” in the late 1970s, it was one of those life-changing albums for me. Thanks, Mark, for the music!
Brother John! I’m truly enjoying this interview with Mark Andes! My best friend growing up was a bass player. He played in the San Diego Youth Symphony when we in high school (1st chair 🪑). However music did not motivate him as much as photography. You put a stringed instrument into his hand and he could play it. He won the banjo and fiddle contest when we were kids by playing Foggy Mountain Breakdown on the string bass. The reason that I said that is that if he were in the San Fernando valley back in the 60’s, he may have given Mark a run for his money. Alas, my friend is a freelance photojournalist and has done work for the LA Times, Getty and other entities. Again brother. Thank you for the great interview. Have an awesome Monday. God bless.
Very knowledgeable and respectful reply on the John or Paul question.
Thank you, John-
Keep all these royalty interviews coming JB.
CANNED HEAT was the greatest boogie band ever. Saw/Heard them in '68 at the Kinetic Playground, Chicago.
You're doing God's work, sir.
Ask Mark about his Dad, Keith Ande’s Career on Stage and Screen. Incredible Talent who could do it all.
Saw them live( spirit) on the family that plays together tour - electric factory Philadelphia.
PHILLY ! ..👍
One important element about Mark that is overlooked in interviews was his stage presence. If you look at the album covers and the music videos, he has an appealing look. Check out the Spirit video "I Got A Line On You", the Firefall video "Strange Way", and the Heart video "Never". You will see three decades of the rock n roll fountain of youth.

Spirit, the most underrated band. Such a wide scope of talent.
I thought Mark was a fabulous bassist. Spirit got a good amount of airplay when I was stationed at NASMIR. I still have the first album in my record cabinet.
Alan Wilson should be more famous.
