Canned Heat rose to fame because their knowledge and love of blues music was both wide and deep. Emerging in 1966, Canned Heat was founded by blues historians and record collectors Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson and Bob “The Bear” Hite.
The band attained three worldwide hits, “On The Road Again” in 1968, “Let’s Work Together” in 1970 and “Going Up The Country” in 1969 became rock anthems throughout the world with the latter being adopted as the unofficial theme song for the film Woodstock and the “Woodstock Generation.”

As a 22 year old typing this in 2024 I’m so grateful to you and others who document the history of historic musicians and bands. I’ll never be able to see the originals live. but hearing these stories bring me a bit closer as if I did.

thanks for interviewing fito de la parra, he's a true blues band great. i saw canned heat play a blues festival in kitchener, canada some sevenish or so years ago. they were totally awesome, their famous boogie groove actually kind of mesmerizing, but, of course, in a good way, one of the most memorable performances i've ever seen.

He mentions the 1942 movie “Orchestra Wives” In which the Glenn Miller Orchestra was featured.
I saw it for the first time this past year on the TCM channel.
The movie also features a dance routine by the amazing Nichols Brothers.
And the bass player who eventually played with the band Spirit was Mark Andes.

Canned heat existed thanks to Alan and Bob. They are the founders, even before Monterey Pop Festival…Larry whom he was into the first album music, was not the first founder bassist.

@@user-tx1qh4pi1w Fito was on the first 4 albums including the first. There was never a drummer before him, the only member switched on the first members was Vestine. Your facts are totally BS.

@@counthenny9160Ron Holmes was the original Canned Heat drummer. Holmes was replaced by Frank Cook. Cook was replaced by Fito.
