Just been to this amazing place for the second time. The biggest religious complex on Earth. The main temple, Angkor Wat is four times the size of the Vatican. And the entire city used more stones than all the Egyptian pyramids together, and covered an area larger than todays Paris.

I feel like Ta Prom is everyone's favourite temple. For me, it shows you the power of nature and how it'll take over long after we're gone but at the same time, it also shows the harmony of how we could embrace nature into our life and create masterpieces.

I think i should clarify, since there are some people that believes angkor was “abandoned from the world, hidden deep in the jungle”...well.....”...deep in the jungle” yes, but abandoned...never. although the capital moved to another area in the country, angkor still had people traveling through it. Henri Mouhot helped popularized it, but he wasnt the first foreigner to be in angkor (and he never claimed to be the first either). In fact, wall paintings found on angkor temple itself indicated that Holland had ships sailing into angkor. The date was estimate to be from the 15th or 16th century (i forgot). Among Holland, there were other european ships found on the wall.

We visited in 2008 and it really was an unforgettable experience. It’s worth investing in a guide book if you’re interested in the details - on the first day we visited Ankor Watt, Ta Phrom, Ankhor Thom and my personal favourite, The Bayon. On the second day, we went further afield to see some of the lesser known places. It remains one of the most amazing places I’ve ever visited. Lovely video Paddy (I’ve watched it twice!). The six armed statue is of the Hindu god Vishnu btw.

The Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia is one of the largest Hindu temples in the world. The temple was originally dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu, but was later converted to a Buddhist temple. It is considered the largest religious monument in the world, covering an area of over 162 hectares (400 acres).

From your previous video I can see that the tourist infrastructure has changed a lot and there is vastly more of it. Probably will revisit the area in the next couple of years. Thanx for the reminders and showing what it’s like there now

Hi Paddy. Great video thanks. You're right it's easy to spend a lot of time at the Temples. I got a 3 day pass, spread over 5 days so I could rest and do other things in between days. If you go to the Killing Fields and Tuol Sleng museum in Phnom Penh it's very upsetting but you have to go, out of respect for the victims. I was in tears at one point, truly. I only took a photo of the gates of each place. When I got inside I didn't feel comfortable taking pics. It is a solemn experience. Get the both of them done in one day and then you can recover emotionally. It's amazing how beautiful the Khmer people are when you consider their tragic history. Thanks, Simon.

I spent a whole day just at Angkor Wat itself. If you start to look at all the intricate carvings in the walls of the outer corridors, it can take very long, because each side of the quadrangle is something like a full kilometer long, and every inch of the walls is full of elaborate carvings that tell a story. I hired a Park Service professional. It was not that much-- if I recall, it was $65 per day, and I used his services for two days. He picked me up at my hotel in a nice air-conditioned Toyota Camry and took me all around, and even stopped for lunch at nice local restaurants. If you want to see all the temples in the surrounding area, you really need four days or more. He also took me to a craft shop in the city of Siem Reap where local poor youth from the surrounding countryside are trained in arts and crafts skills to make various artistic souvenir pieces, and some of them are quite accomplished now. It was fascinating to see how the art was made, and of course there is a store where you can buy authentically produced art and craft pieces at all various price ranges. Some of it is very stunning.

Great video! I was here just last week and managed to squeeze 11 temples into 2 days - exhausting but so worth it! Truly spectacular.

Thanks for letting me relive my time by this awesome footage. A must see for sure! I like the time lapse at the end. From the moment I subscribed to this channel at the beginning, and you went to your first temple, I have been waiting for this vlog. I went to Angkor Wat in 2012, and it remains one of the most amazing places I have ever been to. You lucked out with the low crowds at the main temple. Good you didn't go at sunrise, which was overrun with tourists. And how about the monkeys? There were a few near the entrance when I went. I also got lost in Ta Pram (Tomb Raider temple). Thank you for this! Top vlog, Paddy. 🙏🛕

Paddy my friend, thrilled you finally went to see Angkor Wat, all thru your Cambodia vids I'm like, 'why Paddy not visit most visited site, Angkor Wat' but that first site you went, so visually impressive and just wow, Tuk Tuk driver really went above and beyond so you see it as well, before main site. Just superb that tree even grew like that. Loved the latest video, Paddy, always can count on you to share your experiences (even the 'secret' sunset spot with a meh view) crowded, still beautiful and thank you for sharing with me-and us-loved it. Stay Safe and healthy!

I love your outlook on this because when I went there I felt very similar vibes. It’s absolutely stunning in nature has melted into the temples and created such a masterpiece. I can only imagine what it was like when people were living there and where they had to go to poop. Thank you good sir.

You know, there are even more temples deep in the jungle that were still part of the ancient city. We were taken to temple, that had just been rediscovered a year or two prior. No restoration had yet been done. It was a jumble of giant carved stones covered in moss and vines under the canopy. It was fascinating to see.

Wife and I visited Angkor at Christmas 2009. We did three days. Was hotter than hot. Siem Reap has grown tremendously since then. I recall for the busier sites like Ta Proem and the Bayon, there was a set pathway to keep the flow of visitors in check. The other, less confined temples you were free to explore on your own. Definitely recommend hiring one of the certified guides -- they aren't that expensive. They give valuable insight into some of the history and they know "where to go".

      believe it or not
      History of the Khom people
They are Thai ancestors. He ordered the construction of Angkor Wat.
is the inventor of the Khom script which is adapted from the Indian script
The KHOM people are not Khmer.
The KHOM people are the ancestors of Siam.
Ancient stone inscriptions in Burma called the Siamese as KHOM.
This is a problem that Everyone wants all the truth.
      It is now 2023.

Absolutely. Some people skimp off getting guides, but having a good guide makes a world of a difference and makes the entire experience more meaningful. Also, it's important to do your research about the history of the temples to make the experience more enriching.
