Just wanna say…. A perfectly timed pre-storm hydra bust should definitely NOT be described as “anti-climactic”!! That’s like the most satisfying thing ever.
I have the same experience. I feel like the pacing is a bit slower and you can feel the different phases of the game. I also think that the difficulty in macro compared with sc2 taxes the players enough that they just can’t do as much all over the map at once, making the play easier for a viewer to follow for the viewer/observer. Also artosis makes it really fun with the quality commentary.
This game really shines because of its limitations. Because of pathing and limited-size control groups, big army vs. army battles aren't really a thing. Instead, we get a bunch of exciting skirmishes around the map. Add in the fact that the game gets harder to play the better you're doing, and games end up often having surprising turnouts because of it.
Same. SC2 may be faster with more non-stop action, but it's so low risk, you can and should throw away at least 10 armies per match before someone gg's so the stakes always feel way lower unless it's a cheese proxy build or something lame. mistakes just don't matter in SC2 and that makes it really hard to care after watching BW where the a mistake of being a fraction of a second too slow to do anything can be game ending.
@@joebazooks Agreed. The best SC2 games I've watched were with multiple observers and they had a second smaller box that would display other things going on like drops during the main battle, etc. Also, the way units in SC2 clump up really tight and turn way too fast feels weird to me.
In the second game, I think MC was just indecisive and didn't fully commit to either proxy 2 gate or a standard game, just kinda started to proxy and probably change his mind mid way through, but was far enough in it to express sunk-cost fallacy with his moves.
About 1 proxy gate I think idea was to go 2 gates to counter fast expand but once you see there is no fe it is kind of lost. You are too commit to proxy by sending that early probe. It is to late to start forge in your natural. You lost rock paper scissors and you try to do whatever you can. Some damage with proxy, defend with gate in main. Obviously it is much easier to manage on ladder that between two pros that do things like send early marine so other guy lose 8 minerals.
I was watching the best broodwar casting team the other day..Tastosis I believe was their name. Any who, they casted this proxy gate build you’re asking about in game 3 of mini vs SoulKey this ASL. Mini of course did it better. I won’t spoil the outcome in case someone hasn’t already seen the series I might be remembering your casts better than you. I’ve finally made it
Artosis - it would be great if you had an overlay somewhere with the real player names instead of the account name shown in the replay. Either on top of the account names in the top right?
Nope as a Protoss we have been doing this since about 2006 when maps like Tau Cross, Longinus, and Luna are popular and everyone is doing 9 pool speedlings vs Protoss FE.
Critters are in the maps mostly just for looks. But later in the game, they are a nuisance, and they can cause players to misclick, possibly influencing the outcome of a battle. Or as you said, parasites. It's only corner cases, but in a tournament would cause a feel bad moment. So modern maps only include them as hallucinations, so critters can disappear before becoming annoying. Also, SCREAMING BIRD!
The proxy gate was to mess with his opponent's build order choice over the rest of the 7 game tournament series. I know he lost, but it did what it was meant to.
What do you mean youve never seen 1 gate like this? Do you not remember the mini game in the current asl? --a Was in RO8 vs soulkey, i know you saw it i watched you cast it haha, the opening is identical to that game
2:50 Protoss loses the Probe almost instantly inside Zerg's base, and I've skipped to the last minute, and Lo and Behold the result was exactly what I expected. Saved me 20 minutes of bad games. Top Players don't lose Probes for free.
That wall from MC was just bad tge gateway needed to be 1 hex to right. The Forge needed to be 1 hex to the right and 1 hex down. I loved the dragoon though. It would have been even cooler if he pulled the dragoon back to his base as he traded the zealots.
In these Bo3, how does Artosis not get spoiled on who wins when someone wins game one and then there are only two matches? Like he has to know right. I guess he never says for the viewer experience, but gotta imagine that affects the cast with how he knows who will lose
MC seemed like the MC from WOL where he would compensate for his mediocre unit choice with robotic micro and sneaky, cheap tricks instead of actually skillfully handling many unit types.
6:05 Artosis sees a Dragoon for the first time in 28 years.
😂😂
This is a common way to deal with lings in your base, or if you spot a vulnerable Overlord. Bisu did this vs Soulkey in ASL btw.
I start every morning with a cup of coffee, and a Hey guys, welcome back to Artosiscasts.
haha, same here, except i watch it right after work.
dude why you coomin' & groomin' out here??
i hope that not your kid we doxxing
Just wanna say…. A perfectly timed pre-storm hydra bust should definitely NOT be described as “anti-climactic”!! That’s like the most satisfying thing ever.
How is Brood War so much more fun to watch? I used to watch SC2 games religiously, but I can't go back now.

sc2 harder to watch, easier to play. bw easier to watch, harder to play

arty: if i at home. wait i am home. wait i am watching a vod. damn i love my job
CNSL rules, probably my favorite thing on the channel! Almost as good as ASL. RT4EVA
In the second game, I think MC was just indecisive and didn't fully commit to either proxy 2 gate or a standard game, just kinda started to proxy and probably change his mind mid way through, but was far enough in it to express sunk-cost fallacy with his moves.
That was kinda anticlimactic. But as you say, without bad games, there's no great games. Thank you for the cast, Artosis!

Zealot was so angry he just snorted at a drone on 3:40

MC doing SC2 things in SC1, so much so that it even made the youtube algo confused enough to classify this game as an SC2 game
Artosis - it would be great if you had an overlay somewhere with the real player names instead of the account name shown in the replay. Either on top of the account names in the top right?
Happy to see MC playing. Starcraft 1 scene is so exciting right now

11:57 Why is this Kakaru hallucinated? To prevent Zerg players from making use of Queen Parasite?
@Artosis , explain.
Second game, MC trying to imitate Mini and doing a good job at it.
The influx of sc2 players with original ideas is really fresh and good for bw
Reminds me of a game we saw in ASL a few weeks ago, right? Same map, same races, similar builds as well as the result?
Mini vs Soulkey I believe. I think mini was up 2-0 and this was his attempt at a sweep but SK just starting 9 pooling every game
Please toggle the unit panel off when there's action happening at the bottom of the map like in game 2! Great casts as always!
The proxy gate was to mess with his opponent's build order choice over the rest of the 7 game tournament series. I know he lost, but it did what it was meant to.
Early dragoon to push out the overlord is also a very 2008-09 idea in PvZ, I remember a 3 zealot 1 goon poke once upon a time.
Hell I even used to do that on LT back in day :)
Didn't mini do the build MC did in game 2 against soulkey?
>player builds dragoon
>I've literally never seen that
What do you mean youve never seen 1 gate like this? Do you not remember the mini game in the current asl? --a Was in RO8 vs soulkey, i know you saw it i watched you cast it haha, the opening is identical to that game
Love arty and brood war!!! Thank you❤❤
when is the ASL final match dropping?! :D
The Protoss lost in a way true to his name.
That's a fast cool beans this morning.
cool beans
Loved G1 sick games!
SCREAMING BIRD 11:58

Me, complete noob, who always wondered why when toss have lings in their base they never make a goon: vindication!
His plan was he's protoss

I guess he never says for the viewer experience, but gotta imagine that affects the cast with how he knows who will lose
Maybe they just always submit 5 vod/files or whatever no matter the result. Probably not, but its the only solution I can think of.
I think he was gambling 50/50 on hatch 1st. Feels like a strategy we see on ladder against rt
4:41
Three sounds right 🤣
I've never been so early
dragoon
Game 2 Trying to make yoon make a mistake with a surprise zealot
How can you not cheer for MC?! CMON BABY
Main character
The plan was to have his opponent go hatch first. It was not a good plan.
Mc probably hard gambled on 12 hatch into zealot cannon
MC is almost unrecongizable, he lost a lot of weight from his sc2 days
Some odd matches but enjoyed the casting nonetheless
Wow
MC mr SUPA WASHD
This groupsy wasn't my favourite.
: )
Meh underwhelming but I guess that'll happen
MC sucks lmao, arty chill with the shilling! :)
Aaaaand on the latest matchup between two nobodies who can't even qualify for the ASL is....!
WHYMAN HWAITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What if he placed the late defence cannons at the minerals instead of in the front?
MC seemed like the MC from WOL where he would compensate for his mediocre unit choice with robotic micro and sneaky, cheap tricks instead of actually skillfully handling many unit types.
I prefer SC2 over 1 but I still love 1, and I love hearing Artosis cast! I had the pleasure of playing him once in SC2!
I think he was playing drunk?
:)
