I was born in 1961 in Brooklyn, NY (Flatbush). I was sat in front of the TV on Saturday morning to watch cartoons while leaning to where glasses, lol. I remember the cereal and toy commercials. What a great time for a kid to grow up 😊👍🏻
hawaiian punch was a big advertiser in the early days of the tonight show. "got flavor cherry, pineapple, orange...", that line is in my head forever. there was also a an ad encouraging people to drink milk that was around at about the same time. "oh, nonsense! i haven't had a glass of milk since i was thirteen!" "and how old are you now, sir?" "twenty three."
I sure remember those timex commercials. And I remember marine land in Miami very well too as we went down to also see where flipper was. A couple yrs later. Nice show!
Hey, Ho, Steverino! Another fun trip down memory lane. What a delight to see Mother’s Oats which was what my Irish parents preferred! It was as if I was back at that long ago kitchen table waiting for a hot bowl of oats while Dad read the paper! In the background was the radio, on top of the fridge, playing softly. ❤️
The voices of the bugs in that Raid ad (3:05) are two legends: Paul Frees and Mel Blanc. Your timing on this was impeccable; Anita Bryant's death was just officially announced last week, even though she died in December. She was probably about 20-21 years old in that Coke ad.
Warm greetings from Montreal, Canada 🇨🇦. I am a 68 year old lady and I just found and subscribed to your channel. Wow. These are absolutely amazing and delightful. Great memories and a wonderful journey back in time. Thank you so much for sharing. ❤😊
At 36:47 I believe that was the Standards Brands spokes lady Caroline O Connor . At any rate this makes want to buy some Mazola , Parkay , and Blue Bonnet margarine to butter my biscuits . At 20:29 and 34:16 old Buffalo Bob of Howdy Doody fame was quite a salesman with that sardonic voice of his .
Corvair - The rear-mounted engine redistributed the car's weight, seriously affecting the driver's ability to control the car if it skidded. This is how Ernie Kovacs was killed. The Corvair was infamously declared Unsafe at Any Speed.
Where are the taffy-slapping Bonomo Turkish Taffy commercials? I remember I got in trouble with my Mom for smacking my Turkish taffy on her coffee table to break it up.
Mechanical watches disappeared in the 80's. I guess battery powered watches are cheaper to produce. LED watches with red numbers came out in 1975. Those were cool but ate up batteries. Later of course LCD digital Casio watches came out. I took my watch to a repair shop in 1972 when they had those. The guy had an electronic machine to check the watch accuracy. He said "yes the watch is shockproof but if you drop anything on a concrete sidewalk it's going to break". Good memories. Anita Bryant RIP. The first celeb to get cancelled. Orange juice also got cancelled for its high sugar content.
4:07- 1961. 20:28- From the final episode of "HOWDY DOODY" {Semtember 24, 1960}. The commerical "Buffalo Bob" and Howdy appeared in [at 34:15] also dates from that year.
2:03- 4:06- As seen on Red Skelton's 1962 summer replacement, "THE COMEDY SPOT" [unsold comedy pilots], co-sponsored by Best Foods [Mazola] and Johnson's Wax [Raid].
You're welcome! They appeared in several commercials in the early 1960's, as well as frequent appearances on NBC's "MONITOR" weekend radio show at the time. Peg retired those characters when Alan passed away in 1965.
Hi Steve, I’m hoping you can help me out with something. I was born in 1962 and I remember seeing a particular commercial on two occasions during what I suspect was the mid to late 60s. And it completely freaked me out! All I remember was it was animated and it showed a small figure carrying a sign that said God is dead. And it had this really creepy wind effect in the background. To be quite honest, I never finished watching the commercial as I ran out of the room! Does this ring any bells? I’ve been doing different kinds of Google searches and I’ve got nowhere.

Too bad Kraft doesn't make Vanilla Fudgies anymore. 😟
And I don't see the jams either. 😢@@luisreyes1963
Joyce Gordon. Caroline didn't become their spokesperson until 1964 (and she didn't wear glasses).
@@fromthesidelines Thanks for correction Mr. G. While on the subject were there other spokespersons for Standard Brands ?

Joel Aldred speaks for Chevrolet.
"It smells good but kills bugs."
Thank goodness I'm not a bug.

Inadvertently started the huffing 'hobby' ...
That's the first time I saw the Three Stooges advertise a product. 😅
Yes that was new to me also, Thanks for watching!

Mechanical watches never disappeared. They still exist, and are widely sold at all price levels. Just like fountain pens.
