I've been searching the corners of the internet trying to find it, but I swear I've seen a video showing a cat/kitten walking across an NES Advantage at just the right time and getting a 42.00 KO of Glass Joe. Been at least 10 years since I've seen it and I've been trying to find it for a while now. Pretty funny.
To be honest, I think you make one of Mike Tyson for 3 reasons 1: it's been five years since salts one came, and there's been a lot more discoverys and time saves during that time 2: summoning salt has stated dissatisfaction with his older videos, believing he didn't do the games he did back then justice 3: who says multiple progressions of the same thing can't exist, there's one of Mario Wii for summoning salt and Connor, summoning even cited the video in one part
I’m currently in the middle of a heavy Punch-Out!! hyperfixation and I’m already so excited to see you cover the other fighters!! I can already tell I’ll be watching this little series multiple times and I can’t wait >:3
an entire documentary on the most complex fight in one of my favorite games? a Christmas miracle! also i'll take it as a birthday present, i love your content man, thank you
I subscribed just to see the history on the other 12 fighters. That "other guy's" video has had me grinding this game for 2 months. Totally hooked. Haven't played it (or gamed in general) for decades.
Figured i should add that this video is much more valuable than it might seem, as it actually teaches us about buffering and it's probably something many players never realized was a thing.
I love your content. At first i didn't really know what to expect from a video talking about glass Joe but this was great, can't wait for some of the more complicated fights Next!
Was just binging your videos the other day and you end up dropping a new one! This does make me wonder what is the most tied world record is in any category of any game
If somebody undertook a project to create life-sized statues of all the Punch-Out fighters and place them each in a public square in the city in their home city, I wonder what the Parisians would think about getting the guy who usually goes down in under a minute.
That is an awesome video Pap. I'm kind of surprised there was 7 minutes of content to talk about with the Glass Joe WR. Haha. I'm really looking forward to more of these!
I love these breakdowns, Pap... I never knew a childhood source of rage, tears, and wailing and gnashing of teeth was so in depth as I have said before. You are a service to the community and internet; I thank you sir...
I can believe you talked about this fight for 7 mins. In fact you might want to talk slower through the buffer segments aand give some time numbers for why those combos worked. It's also a good intro video to test out and finish the series.
Thats a fair point, Ive talked about buffering inputs in previous videos and didnt want to re-explain things ive already explained, although for people new to this content, I couldnt just completely skip over it. As for explaining why the specific set of inputs worked, I could talk about how many frames each action lasted for etc, but I thought it would bore people, and its relatively insignificant considering there are a bunch of different buffers that can work, just those ones are impractical and annoying to remember.
*Can't wait for the rest of this series!!!* (but you might want to let zallard1 tie the TAS before getting to Popinski lol...which should be any day now from the looks of it!) 😁
I'm looking forward to the rest. Suggestion: Passing captured footage through a good deinterlacer, or capturing it differently so the interlace artifacting isn't there.
@@Papamanual Good stuff. You do a good job with narration-if I'm being fair, better than the guy who made a career out of this-so ironing out production kinks is really just doing justice to that. If you're still taking suggestions, I could comment that any of this footage that you collected yourself from an emulator may as well undergo an AR correction. The NES doesn't have square pixels the way emulators traditionally render; the AR is actually 8:7. This is normally a trivial quibble but it does become somewhat more obvious when transitioning from live footage to emulated and vice-versa, such as at 1:05. I acknowledge that most are unlikely to care, but nostalgia is nostalgia.
Thanks my guy. Im having a look at some of the FCEUX video settings (the emu I capture from). Im not exactly sure what "AR" is but im guessing its aspect ratio. Im guessing I should change the 4:3 to 8:7 and also force the aspect ratio correction. My next video likely wont have the changes, but from there on, ill try to have all worked out and be as seemless as possible. I guess i wont be able to make these corrections for when I capture footage from other sources, but I should be able to make the corrections for any future footage I capture.
I discovered myself it wasn't guaranteed but in one of your previous videos you mentioned just spamming right dodge until it was time to land the punch, which is a little different from all the methods described here.
If you read the manual, it says that the left is faster but not as strong and the right is slower but a stronger hit. I have one this for years, lets say 30 ish.
what changes would you make to this video now that it is known that Punch Out uses frame rules? I guess that question can be applied any of your videos.
None, because frame rules have been known for 4 years. All of my videos have pretty up to date knowledge as far as I know, and their hasn't been any new notable discoveries I can think of since I started making this sort of content. I havent even investigated the thought of getting either guaranteed 2 beep or guaranteed 4 beep joe since we already have a strategy that perfectly covers both of them. All other runners havent tried looking for such a strategy either, since this fight is basically already solved.
I like any video Nintendo related. This dude broke glass Joe down to a science. I shalt remember to pass this valuable information down to my grankids 🤣
I did this the very first time I played Punch Out. I was 12 years old and some older kids I knew (very late teens) were playing it. I pulled off the 42 second KO and they went crazy. They couldn't believe it. They thought I was some kind of prodigy. lol
0:12 but logically we know that extraordinary is subjective and just the claim may satisfy the listener who doesn't give a shit about the claim and is down for the relationship and eventually seeing the proof in action versus on immediate display.
Maybe a new way to spice up this fight is to speedrun a dodged star punch for this fight, though this idea might be as dumb as it sounds. I've seen a few proof of concept videos showing that he can dodge, but this is always in round 2 or 3. I think I'm the first to create a speed strategy to accomplish this in Round 1, making me the record holder by default (records are much easier to obtain by making silly categories that in developing real skills). ua-cam.com/video/RcfDhCJehr4/v-deo.html Please don't roast me for struggling to get that final hit it. As far as I know, this can go as low as 1:27.25. I won't be too surprised if I get beaten within a day of posting this.
interesting idea and I liked your strategy for the fight, it actually seems pretty good. However, I dont know how many people would be interested in speedruns of this kind.
What do you know! My little video managed to get one person interested in trying it out for themself, which is way more than I expected. Also just stumbled on your video of the Glass Joe TKO speed run a few days ago, definitely an impressive one. I didn't even know he could be knocked down before the Viva La France charge. It would be really cool if there was more general interest in side challenges.
My buddy bones was fighting glass Joe. He was struggling so bad he got fatigued and couldn't punch. Bones a grown ass man at the time drops the controller on the ground and says I'm fatigued and before he realizes he hasn't lost tries to pick it back up but was too late knocked out by glass fucking Joe.
Fun fact: I had my niece try this game when she was 6, and her very first fight with Glass Joe got her the world record lol
My first fight with glass joe I lost to him :)

Captchas today: "Click on the images that have boats"
Captchas in the future: "Do the correct buffer and achieve a Glass Joe WR"
22 quick dodges to the left and then punch. If he beeps twice, it always connects.
@@gladoseon4117 it's covered in the video lol - and how to get it regardless of 2 or 4 beeps

7:29 I'm certainly grateful you spent 7 minutes talking about the Glass Joe WR :D
