  • The New York Rangers traded Alexandar Georgiev to the Colorado Avalanche back in July of 2022 with the intention to make him their starting goaltender. In return, the Rangers got 3 draft picks two of whom look quite good.

    I liked geiorgiev but you knew he couldn't stay a back up , he deserved the starting spot somewhere. I never felt bad about the move.

      I agree it was a move that made sense for both teams and the player

      He definitely did not need a starting spot in New York. He only won like 50% of the games he started. Georgie is ok, but he'll never be elite. Then again Darcy Kemper was only an average goalie too yet somehow Colorado won a Stanley Cup with him. 🤷🏻‍♂️........ He just wasn't performing in New York. To hold on to him would have been the worst move.

      @@RoughRaiders13last year he was like 6th in line for vezina. Yeah this years hes had a blip, but don't underestimate him. He isnt in Igors shadow like everyone says he is. Also, all goalie save% is lower this year than it has been for a while.

      He probably deserved a move but I don't think he's a genuine starter. If you ask every GM in the league I doubt there's many teams that would have as him as thier true starter. The expectation of Georgiev in colorado was surely to be part of a tandem but its not worked out that way due to injuries.

      @RoughRaiders13 I believe Georgiev is better than Kuemper and Grubauer... what would you say to this? I believe the goalie era is over... and paying anything over, say, 4.5 million is too much... some teams still rely on their goalie too much, imo, and the Avs are proving its more about the team than an elite goalie... granted, still need a good goalie, though, just not a 10mil one like Price was...

    Not a player, but props to the rangers for allowing Kris Knoblauch to interview for the Oilers coach job. They could have kept him as the AHL coach but the waived his contract clause and look at him now.

    After his solid performance with us I knew he’d start somewhere and was really stoked for him that it would be with a cup contender. I think he’d also be playing a lot better if Colorado had a decent back up to pick up the slack. He’s gassed. Halak had a shaky start for us but picked things back up post all star. Was also hesitant about quicky at first but of course we know now that it was our best off season pick up. So glad he’s achieved some milestones with us and with his childhood team. LA disrespected the shit out of him and now they’re paying for it with subpar goaltending in the playoffs.

    Seems that both teams got what they needed out of this trade. Rangers got a few extra picks to help rebuild and provide long term depth, and the Avs got a serviceable goalie, a position that they had a severe need to fill. Avs continuing to the 2nd rd (and possibly beyond) in 2024 shows trade was beneficial for them.
    It’s possible it was a win-win for both teams, which is usually the best kind of trade. No need for one side to lose more than the other.

      He also has an 0.891sv% in the playoffs. I like Georgiev but let's be honest all those wins in the Regular Season and Playoffs are more because of the team in front of him which is top tier.

    • @live33wire
      @live33wire 21 день тому

      @TrenurSports I don't disagree the team in front of him is top notch. But I think it's a little unfair that if they lose its his fault, but if they win its because of the team and not him. Outside of the first game in the Jets series his save % was never below .917. I think the Avs are good enough not to over spend on a tendy. They can sign a tendy who is JUST good enough due to the defense and volume of shots they dump on the other team. Kuemper proved that. I enjoy the back and forth, cheers 🍻

    Georgie isn't a terrible goalie but he was terrible in New York. Every time he was in net for the Rangers it was a coin flip. He won half the games and lost half the games. That's not a good enough record for even a backup goalie. At the end of the day he wasn't working out in New York. It would have been beneficial for the Rangers to just cut him from the roster. It made even more sense to get stuff for him.

    Besides the fact that he was/is an average goalie, he was never a great teammate nor locker room presence. He didn’t seem genuinely happy at the end of games when he wasn’t playing. He would some times not even high five or greet Igor after games…Or it would be a quick tap of gloves and he would immediately turn around and go the other way. Never smiled at Igor nor genuinely congratulated him. He just seemed bitter. Not a team player for sure. Also, that altercation he had w DeAngelo, now looking back…maybe Tony was the “good”guy in that incident…Good trade for the rangers for sure, didn’t need Georgie, it was going to be Igor all along. Backup goalies are a dime a dozen. They found a much better guy as backup, both on and off the ice in the locker room in Jonathan Quick…plus they got three potentially serviceable prospects from that trade.

      @@raysravens52 agreed but Georgie isn’t exactly a great teammate nor a locker room gel guy. He gave off negative vibes. Both aren’t with the team anymore….so maybe there is some truth to both not being popular w their teammates. My original point was that not all the blame could be put on Deangelo…probably both players were at fault.
