i got recommended holbein acryla gouache from a art supply store, i told him i wanted to conquer painting because i never enjoyed it so he suggested holbein. after testing out the couple of tubes i brought i never looked back and now have a pretty decent collection of them. they have made painting fun for me. the drying super fast can be a bit challenging when you want to go back in with a previous colour, but that can be fixed with a wet pallet
I cannot actually believe the cost difference at discovery japan vs. buying them at art stores in Canada/amazon. I'm in shock that a whole 24 tube set of 20 ml is under 100CAD. Literal shock lol. If I bought x24 tubes at my local I'd be spending $240+++ Thank you so much for this tip I'm so stupidly excited right now haha!!! New sub your work is goals 😅
I got my set for free from one of my college art classes a while back which I’m so glad about, though I’ve had to buy a big tube of white since that stuff goes fast. Otherwise a little really does go a long way.
When I was experimenting with gouache, I tried adding it with acrylic paint and I can say that it's interesting that gouache can't be reactivated. It's hard though to balance the matteness when it dries so I'm thinking that maybe holbein artist gouache is interesting to try!
@@SarahFletcher12 I added acrylic as an experiment coz I like mixing different mediums together but I know that gouache can be reactivated. I just wanted to mix them
I'm guessing since she usually does demos and tutorials and such that she uses her sketchbook instead. Using a sketchbook is also nice practice and takes the pressure off aside from being a smaller scale to work on. I'm sure she does full paintings outside of what she does on UA-cam, I imagine.
Layering! This is how I work on my miniatures :) A wet palette really helps with acrylics and can keep things active for a few days or more depending on your climate. You still need to wash your brushes well though. A wash and a rinse cup can also help get them cleaner while working. Lovely painting.
I love Acryla Gouache, i was hesitating to try it because ihave acrylics and i thought it would be more like acrylic like gouache, but no, not quite. It really feels like gouache. I do have to say though - porcelain palette is the worst choice for working with them. something in porcelain makes it dry way too fast. I cant be bothered with the hassle of stay wet palette so i switched to was paper palettes and even that works better, keeps the moisture for long enough.
When painting with traditional acrylics i usually find it easier to clean my pallet after it is dry. i just spray some water and let it sit for a few minutes, then it peels off entirely. I wonder why acrylic gouache is not the same.
For me it depends on the mixing palette i use and also how long it has been dry before I clean it. Some mixing palettes repel them easily but then some just are almost impossible to clean after :c Also I just need to be better at cleaning up right away for sure!
@@hambot I understand. Have you tried using Glass Pallets? I make them using cheap portrait frames. They are incredibly easy to clean (and can be really cheap).

I love how the painting came out, the colours look so vibrant and almost dreamlike💛
Seeing your amazing understanding of color theory and color placement when painting skin always amazes me💜
Thank you so much!!!!! It took me a lot of practice for sure. But also I got a little lucky with this, I still struggle sometimes

Sophia Lillis has such a distinct and easily recognisable look, and you have captured her perfectly here!
Thank you so much, Edric! This was my second time painting this one, I struggled a lot with the first try
I love how rich but soft the painting looks!
Amazing!! I always love the way you choose the most random colors and somehow make those work together! ❤
I just got myself some of these, cannot wait to give them a go ☺☺☺
Please let us know what you think of them, Chantelle!
Beautiful lighting! I'm also very impressed with the pigment
Unbelievable. Such an great artist 👏👏👏

It can be if it’s traditional gouache. It probably didn’t reactivate for you since you mixed it with acrylic… why did you add acrylic?

Do HolBein Acryla gouache dry with a texture? Or can it? Or does it self level? I am looking for acrylic paint that does do that.
So lovely 🥰😍🤩
How are you able to get the color right on the first layer? 😮
Practice and also a lot of luck!
VerY GooD..
Incrível ❤❤❤
How long does it takes dry ?
I havent really timed it but i would guess only a few minutes on the paper and a couple of hours to fully dry on my palette

Sketchbook?
Full sentence?
She talks about this in previous vids. It's not really a sketchbook but she uses it for that purpose.
I don’t understand why you use gouache as sketching tool not a great medium for finishing large scale paintings?!!

Wow I love watching you paint. Your color intuition and blending technique are next level exquisite 🎉

Yep, I'm now convinced to get the holbein acryla gouache.
How do you make your thumbnails?
did you find it difficult working with a dry pallet for these paints?
Another amazing video 😊😊😊
Complete tutorial, please
so nice ❤😍👍
so beautiful ❤

omg, the colors work so well together and the face looks amazing. TALENTED!
It's just Matt acrylics...for me...
It could be the acrylics I have used but they feel completely different to me. Although it is just that on paper!
I've found Holbein acrylic gouache has a much higher pigment concentration. A little bit of the Holbein goes a long way!
