Ditto Dizzy. I served from '73-78, was on the dril team in boot camp and we were as good as anything I see here on youtube.
Aboard ship I was on the ship's landing party. And yes Charlie Oscar, we carried rifles,M14s.
At sea, I was lucky to get 3 hrs sleep a night with the constant bridge watches, security alert drills, fleet gunnery exercises, unreps and landing party training. NAVY RULES!

For someone, who has nothing other to do in his life than training exactly that it was ok, not more. Imagine the national ballet would show this level of precision, you would not be impressed. If they would have had only some months, than it would have been amazing.

I totally agree with you. I was on the honor guard team in Incirlik Air Base Turkey when I was in the Air Force in the late 1990s. There will always be arm chair quarterbacks critiqing others performances when they have no ability or courage to get up there and do it themselves. It's a lot harder than it looks!

The object is to enjoy not compare. I am a Marine and I like any team that shows discipline and coordination. I also prefer occasional commands especially when the public does not understand the lingo. My favorite thing about boot camp was the different language we Marines use in drill. Personally, drilling Army and Marines seems almost ordinary. Seeing Navy or Air Force at this level is interesting.

You look here, you know teenagers in high school can't join the full time military until they are 18. Most EVERY cadet does join some branch of the military. The uniform EVERY cadet wears is NOT fake. It's just as real as any other military uniform. The Springfield issued to drill cadets is the exact same the full time military would use minus the bayonet.

  • @Armed4Life07
    @Armed4Life07 13 років тому

@NAvyC0rpSMan Agreed. They have a higher difficulty and bigger vocabulary of movements, but sacrifice precision. The Marines have a very low vocabulary of movements, but are extremely precise. Mix the two together and what do you get? The USAF Honor Guard Drill Team.

@Armed4Life07 There is nothing to think about. Because they won once, doesn't mean they are the best. The Joint Service Drill Competition has only happened three times. It's first year, the Marines Silent Drill Platoon won. The 2nd year, the Navy Ceremonial Honor Guard Drill Team won, and in 2010, the Army Old Guard Drill Team won. The next one will be held in April, 2011.

in high school i wasn't in njrotc drill, i was in the drill and flags for the marching band. But even still we knew some basic rules.... if you take a step and you are not in line, you don't take another step to fill the gap.... one step is one step! get in line at another time. Or else everyone will see your mistake.

  • @TopGun8993

pbfreak09, you can find more "mess ups" because these guys are doing a lot more rifle work than the silent Marine Corps. silent platoon does. When you watch the Marines, only a couple guys do some very complicated rifle work. The Navy Drill Team does it as a whole almost the entire drill. They are two different styles of drill, don't compare them, just appreciate each one for what they do. We're all on the same team.

there are 2 things that win battles,
    1 the basic training
2 mastering how to work together, hence what drills are for, the romans invented a technique like this, and there drills are suppose to be a thing of legend.

@TheDeshi100 It's all mainly boils down to opinion, but not entirely. I've been drilling for 7 years and have an extensive exhibition drill background. Based off my experience, when I watch other teams or individuals drill, I know what I'm looking at, and looking for. On a side note, my former drillmaster Constantine coaches the Navy Drill Team. He had me perform my solo infront of the team in preparation for the National High School Drill Team Championships in 2007.

This is a nice performance. Weapon angles need some work. A bit repetitious in the routine. Major phasing in the first platoon-separating move. The second move starts off to be really effective and then it is quite apparent that team members are at a moderate level of knowing responsibilities. The single-file line (minus mistake) is absolutely great. The progression after the solo works VERY well.

hey, im in njrotc too. im a PO3 squad leader in alpha 3. we have one of the largest high schools in the area, and we have a decent sized ROTC.
The only problem is football consumes the school. I cant remember a time when our football team didnt make it to state. since football is so big, our Drill team doesnt really practice a lot.
i go to camden county high school in area 12.

@pbfreak09- You really can't compare the Navy and Marine drill teams equally. They both do a different drill. The Navy drill team executes more of their members doing faster and more difficult moves than the Marines. The Marines do an impressive job of slower, more precise, simpler (not simple, just more simple than the Navy) drill. I would say the Marines are better at looking more in tune and professional. The Navy is better at the difficulty in their rifle drill. I love them both!!!

@sk8fsb1993 That is incorrect. The kind of drill that is demonstrated at the High School/College level is a different kind than the sort of drill that is demonstrated by Service Teams. Service Teams do Ceremonial Drill. Their drill is not supposed to be high, fast, and exciting like you see with High School and Colligate teams. The purpose of Ceremonial Drill is to display the sharpness, discipline, and dedication that the military gives. They are two different types of drill.

I get you are a gung-ho U.S. Marine....God Bless you, and thank you for your service. I'm a veteran too. You could show a little more respect for your fellow countrymen in the U.S. Navy displaying one hell of a rifle drill. It just seems your criticism of the Navy drill team is incorrect. They are NOT a SILENT drill team. Take care.

@TheDeshi100 Teams get screwed over all the time. 98% of judges don't even know what they are judging. Most of it is volunteer work from local military recruiters that know nothing about exhibition drill. You have a lot to learn. Don't worry, I understand where you're coming from. I also thought like that when I was a drill n00b myself years ago.

  • @TheDeshi100

@Armed4Life07 - Bottom line, I would go to the judges of this drill meet. Judges who were from all the services who competed rather than to believe what the posters are saying here. At least there is a bit of a balance on the judging rather than those who are posting who they believe is the best. Belief that is partial and biased.

I'm not really sure what this guy is saying about JROTC, but I really think you should lay off him because I think he isn't necessarily attacking the organization; I believe he is just commenting on the mentality a lot of cadets have. I am an AFJROTC cadet, and I see what he is talking about every day of ROTC. I see people thinking they own the place because they have a few ribbons or a high rank.

Please read my original post again, it was intended to take away the "biased opinion" by informing them that during the drill meets the Navy has won 3 times and Army 1. This, I hope, will bring them back to earth and have an open mind about military drill meets.

Me being in NJRTOC, I should like this video? But I plan on Marine Corps service, but my profession lead me towards Scarlet Oaks NJRTOC. I can't say this is not a good Drill Team, they are still extremely talented. But when you put them up against the Silent Drill Team, it will make them look bad. But, I think its more the MC SDT history that upholds them, as well as the appearance. But I still very much like what I saw.
