    Russia may be known for their marches, China for their marching, Nazi Germany for their style, North Korea for their persistence, Britain for their classiness, but never fuck with the U.S.'s Silent Drill Platoons.

    • @SIeipner
      @SIeipner 10 років тому

      As much as I hate the Nazis, their marches was awesome. Where they have either their front line have their head turned to the left or it is all the lines except the first that has their head turned to the left as well as they have their unique way of marching is awesome. No one wants to copy their cool way of marching because people will associate it with the Nazis which is understandable.

      Nothing silent in the training: Properly executed, the butt of the rifle rests on the deck! The stock rests along the outer edge of the right shoe! The pistol grip is to the front and the barrel is in a near vertical position! The rifle is grasped by the right hand at the junction of the front sight assembly and the barrel! The barrel rests in the V formed by the thumb and forefinger! The fingers are extended and joined and placed on line with the barrel!

    FABULOUS! This group did an excellent performance and so joyful to watch. Much hard work and determination goes into this. I didn't have the coordination to make the drill team. Wished I did. It's all good. The sad part---so many negative comments on something so great. Why do people try to bash the good with bad words? Is this the times we live in now? Just say "good job" or nothing at all. Guys like this receive the honor of guarding our Tomb of the Unknown Soldier!!

    Marching drills were developed as a way of organizing troops for moving men into battle to minimize casualties. It's a recognized method of instilling confidence with in the troops. Marching drills help develop concentration, mind-body control and teamwork. It may be difficult for some people to comprehend the value of marching drills if they have not been in the honored position of supporting our freedom. It is not a waste of time and it is a sight to behold.

    The point is not a "pretty drill", but the ability to learn and perform a "pretty drill". The Honor Guard helps soldiers/sailors in training focus not on doing "their best", but on doing "the best" at any given thing (drill, in this instance), which we can all agree is the most effective form of training, military or otherwise.

  • @thepreston
    @thepreston 17 років тому

    They are soldiers who, for honor and personal challenge, go above and beyond to perfect their drill skill. Along with boosting national moral (not international, though within international military circles it does bolster respect for the America military), it also serves as a great training tool for every soldier to help them concentrate and work on their discipline.

    I'm very impressed! Somehow, I'm just as impressed with the lieutenant for never flinching. This is so cool. It's great to see exactly what my husband is practicing: he's newly enlisted in the US Navy, and he comes home frequently with new bruises and cuts from drill practice. This isn't easy!

    I've watched now rifle outfits from the Marines (silent drill team), Air Force and Navy and I can't help but think how impressive this type of display is to our allies and enemies. These guys show amazing precision, discipline and dedication to their units.
    I wonder if haflingerlady noticed that they are using REAL BAYONETS with razor sharp blades and not a baton with two rubber ends.
    If she tried some of these manoevers, chengloki, she'd probably have to rename herself "half-finger lady!"

    Hey Axdssa,
    I know you will never understand this but this kind of thing takes what is called "attention to detail". The kind of thing that can be the difference between life or death when you are in battle at sea. These men are professionals at what ever their "real" job is in the Navy.

    Excellent discipline, skill and coordination. No wonder they won. The countless hours spent in drill are not wasted. The ability to store in memory, and perform these learned automatic responses, are valuable all of these people's lives. They are a tremendous benefit to society, unlike many others we hear of in the Media each day. "The USA, One Nation Under God"

    I remember, in '71, at Orlando, every three weeks a new drill team and 50 state team was chosen. I was with the flag team. I saw the drill teams do their stuff, and believe me I can't imagine how they managed to do this drill. Our flag routine wasn't nearly as hard to do, but yes, out company DID get best in brigade. C/C SMC Tom Ennis reminded me something of a Clint Eastwood type.

    I think this is good; it shows that Norwegians show respect for their guests even though the politics may differ. Of course Norwegians also tend to be very frank with their opinions, but tend to give those opinion without malice. I hope Norwegians never forget their fundamental values, because we Norwegian Americans still look up to "fedrelandet." And also to those multi-layered cakes with the creamy frosting and tangerines...

    To all the "real sailors." I was in the guard during this time and know everyone in this video personally. These guys hold the highest standard as to what a sailor is and represents they do a two year tour in the guard. they go through very rigorous training to be in the guard most of which never make it through training. after their tour they all go off and become the best sailors to hit the fleet. please stop leaving uninformed comments about these guys not being "real sailors"

    Granted there is a large amount of Theatrics and showmanship involved it is basically good natured one upmanship between armed forces branches. although, it may appear "girly" you can be sure they went through basic training like any sailor and if the shit were to go down they would be ready. I think it mainly shows a great amount of dexterity and coordination as a team to show how many can react as one to form a well oiled machine.

    HOWEVER! the #1 proof its American is the uniform "hat patch" is that of the US Navy Eagle, Guns & Anchor and if you look at the Norwegian's Naval hat patch it doesn't even come close. This is the US Navy equivalent of the US Marine Honor Guard Ceremony. Maybe a Norwegian audience because I can hear they are in aww over it and that is understandable.

    Sorry, but I can't help pointing some things out. First, they aren't "silent." The officer kept issuing commands to initiate various stages of the routine. The Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon does their ENTIRE performance without a single spoken command. More than that, they do it with twice as many guys (which is MUCH more than twice as hard to do in perfect unison and coordination, especially without ANY commands). The officer here doesn't know how to march. His left arm swings out like a broken chicken wing and he bobs instead of gliding. His sword manual is also slack and sloppy. Yeah, they're okay but simply cannot touch the Marines, in either skill or overall presentation. Google a performance by them and see if I'm wrong.
