We were able to go to the Evening Parade 3 weeks ago and it was absolutely fantastic to watch. I would go again in a heatbeat. It gives you the chills. Talk about precision and hard work. I, am very proud of all the service men/women that are working hard to protect us and our country any way they possibly can. They are all important. My husband served from 68-72. Keep up the good work.
These guys are amazing. I've seen them a fair bit on TV and once in person and I still can't believe just how good they are. What's more is they aren't just a unit assembled entirely for drill, they fight as well. Takes a hell of a switched on man to do both well.
Magnificent!!! The strength, endurance and timing these young men have is awesome. They are of one mind when performing. It will help them in their civilian lives when it comes to working with others. Hoo Rah!!!!
I haven't seen anything like this since I was a silent drill team member for the ship I was stationed on, the USS Longbeach CGN9 in 1980. Blessed a lot of Americans in the west Pacific with our presentations during that WesPac which was during the Iranian hostage fiasco. Thanks for sharing! Brings back a lot of memories!
hey Dad You were USAF in Korea an F 86 FIGTHER PIOLET.........you made me so proud i think of you every day.....I think of the truth you told me about how the marines cheered your asses when they were pinned down and you guys brought the fire power of the f 86's.....who knows how many guys you saved....i think about you every day....God Bless out Troops
These guys did amazing! I don't care if you're for or against the war, these dudes are amazing! I can't wait until I join, it will be the happiest day of my life!
First, thanks to my friend who shared this with me! This is another amazing display of precision, strength, a oneness is mind and spirit! I couldn't help but think of a song I learned in Sunday School. The name of that song is "Onward Christian Soldiers". If only Christians could march with this oneness in strength and purpose!
It's because of the these guys/gals our enemies fear us. Thank You to all our Servicemen and Servicewomen...you're the greatest!!! If you know a WWII Vet take time to thank them...I do every chance I get. 15 more years and only those who've lived to be a 100 will still be alive.
When I was in boot camp in 82 we saw this or one like it. It was designed to help motivate us to win the drill competition. It worked we won. Platoon 2036 second battalion F Company
Just doing a comparison between the Army Silent Drill Team, and the Marine Corps Silent Drill Team. The Army Silent Drill Team has a longer routine, with a lot of movements that tend to repeat themselves, which isn't that bad considering they look good....but when you look at these Devil Dogs, I'm just lost for words right now. I've watched them time and time again, and it never ceases to amaze me just how precise they are. They move like one single mind in different bodies, it's amazing!!
holy crap, this is one of the best drill teams ive ever seen, our Australian federation drill squad comes very close to this, nice work marines of the USA.
Makes me bust a gut with pride for my country . These young men are the finest our nation can offer . They can do more than twirl 'em . " Every marine a rifleman " .
@sortie9 There weren't Marine Units per say but there were quite a few attached to the OSS. There were Marines in Iceland defending with the country and Marines in Africa. As members of ships' detachments, yes. As members of joint staffs, yes.
Snap of Strategies to the Point of No Return, with Tap & Die Instincts marching in place and about, Rifles clicking and rapping synchronizing with Intertwined SOULS thriving towards a Goal.
these guys are so bad ass im proud to look up to these guys im in ROTC drill team for my high school and after i graduate im gonna enlist in the marine corps and try to get in the silent drill team nice vid
To all people who have Father's, Mother's, Brother's & Sister's out on deployment that are serving with the USMC I salute you. I believe that the USMC is one of the finest fighting force's in the world today and I'm proud to say I would accept any help they can give. I am of mixed decent of English, Irish, Scottish & Maori and I'm equally proud of each of those I am decended from.
Marines receive more training than other branches. For example I was an aircraft mechanic. I attended a 3 month boot camp, the longest of all the services. Then I attended a 2 month infantry school known as MCT, Marine Combat Training. In MCT I was trained in and used the MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher, M2 browning .50 cal, 240G 7.62 medium machine gun, The SAW light machine gun,M203 grenade launcher, and AT4 anti-tank rocket. Infantry tactics. Every Marine a rifleman. And I was a mech!
Im a US sailor and proud to be apart of America's Navy, but I will admit that Marines are always sharp and and the best example of military bearing and discipline.
Pride Runs Deep! Because of skill and discipline such as this, I sleep very safe & comfortable in my bed at night knowing some very tough men are standing ready to protect me.
Awe inspiring. My mouth was open in amazement the whole time. This is difficult stuff but they make it look really easy. I may live in the Philippines but... THUMBS UP MAN!!!!!!
Je les aient vu en France à l'école militaire de Paris en 1997 et ils sont vraiment impressionnant. I was see them in France at military school in Paris and they are very impressive.
@chinookwoman Whats great about the Marine's is that they have an all encompassing force. We have tanks, infantry, artillery, fighters, transport helicopters, gunships, and vertical take off ground attack aircraft such as the Harrier. No pilot in the world compares to a Harrier pilot! No other branch has this under 1 roof. If Marines call for air support it is another Marine in the cockpit that gives it to them. Each Marine pilot is trained as a infantry leader. And every Marine is a rifleman.
@camokid01 USMC is total of 21 weeks, when you hear people say 13 weeks it is because they are talking specificly about Recruit Training, Marine Training is seperated into 2 phases, there is recruit training and then after recruit training you will go to SOI for 8 weeks with either ITB or MCT depending on what you signed up for to recieve more advanced training
@bbrain2 Wikipedia: "A soldier is a member of the land component of national armed forces" Marines are not "land components", they may be stationed on land at times, but so are sailors
those guys and us (usaf H.G.silent drill) used to practice in the same facility during inclimate weather back in the day. regardless of what service drill you see, it requires hours upon hours of practice, concentration, repitition, and plenty of pain.while i prefer our drill, the m.c. drill is very nice and they should be commended.nice job, guys.
i got a marine but he "only fixes airplanes". he was stationed in Korea and i was worried to death. good thing he's home now. he's constantly in my thoughts but i'm glad he's okay. i'm amazed watching this.
@bbrain2 soldier is sometimes used as a universal term, but Marines refuse to be called soldiers. Army- Soldiers, Marine Corps- Marines, Air Force- Airmen, Navy- Sailor
@abz520 I liked what you said about being brothers in arms and each plays an important role. My son served in the United States Army. He is buried at Fort Logan National Cemetary in Denver, Colorado. He was killed on the streets of home long after his military service. I visit his grave often. Looking at all of the graves of those who have served, I am thankful for both past and present troops no matter which branch of military service. God bless them all including their families.
@atotalnoob No we dont. The M1's we use are actual, normal, M1's. The only difference is that they have a special muzzle that would prevent a round from escaping. The only other difference is that we break the wooden hand guards into 2 pieces so they make an extra loud clatter ; )
abz520- My grandson asked me if I thought Grandpa would be upset is he enlisted in the Marines instead of the Army. I could say, honestly, that Joey would be proud of him and I know his buddy would say, "Finally, all those sweats I gave Hannah paid off!"My youngest son is in A-stan with a combined Army-Marine task force. He had told me his mission was to teach those boys how to fight., I told him to let me know when he was going to disclose this as he would need his Mama. Thank you for serving.
I'd like to remind everyone that these guys are active infantrymen, they are NOT just expected to do this, they train and deploy and fight like every other infantry unit.
Royal Marines were involved in D Day, the landings in Italy. By the end of the war there were over 74,000 RM Commando's, many of which were in the European Theatre. Before WW2 RM's operated on ships & were trained in amphibious assaults to be relieved by other troops once they've taken beaches/ports, but WW2 indicated the need for Commandos after less than 2 yrs the British Commando's proved this but their numbers weren't enough so they got merged with the RMs to become the RM Commandos!
@silentrunner4292 I don't know about in the Marines but in the Army it's actually a waist size requirement to be on the Old Guard's Drill Team, which can be waived if you still look like everyone else in formation.
Was never a "Drill Pig",infact hated every minute of it,but give respect when its due, without a doubt the American military have some of the best drill squads ive seen, truely amazing,
@blaircottrell Military drill is one of the fundementals that any disciplined fighting force needs to have. It's about unit cohesion and organization. In fact, if you look at the beginning of the U.S. Military, we were a ragtag group of soldiers before Baron Friedrich von Steuben was brought in by General Washington from Prussia to teach our men how to move on the battlefield, and to be disciplined. Every U.S. Military member learns the basics of drill at basic training regardless of branch.
Sir, you give new meaning to the meaning blind British arrogance... A quote from another Brit comes to mind "The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool..." You ignore the historical sacrifice of my country, and deman my unit Sir, which makes you a first class cad.
@sortie9 All that being said it is true that the US Marines were originally (1775) modeled after the British Royal Marines and the two forces share a mutual respect. Of course the USMC long ago ceased being a small naval commando force but shares that common origin with the Brits.
I am from Canada and I am a flight corporeal for 876 Lincoln Alexander squadron and I am part of the Rifle Drill team and the Honor Guard and even I know that almost every nation does rifle drill. People may think that this is a waist of time but it's not. Not only does it teach discipline but it also teaches precision. Have you ever grabbed the bolt of a gun, it's not pretty. What does that teach you.... Don't grab the bolt. How do you do that... Be precise. How are people precise, PRACTICE
Imagion the amount of time it takes to train these Marines to do these performances and the strict disipline and motivation at 8th and I, Marine Barracks, Washington DC...HOOORAW... SEMPER FI !!!!
@PrestonNorthEndFan I'm well aware of the Royal Marines having served alongside some that visited our USMC helicopter squadron in 1971. The thing is though this thread involves US Marines not Royal Marines.

Man! Silent drills! It was a lot of fun way back in high school... Makes a guy feel nostalgic at times...
This is just fantastic.
The best of the best.
S.L.I.C.K.

As a ten year military veteran I say that was awesome.
That's a beautiful art form: group thinking to the physical level. Very arcane.
The best display team I have ever seen. And I am ex-UK military.
One mark of a professional, is how you handle mistakes, well done Marines. (from a Navy Vet.)
so beautiful... i am awed every time i see em.. and after some 23 yrs that is alot/
best performance i've ever seen in my life.
Freaking awesome SOBs. Almost makes me miss the days of drill in boot...almost, lol.
