Keto Spicy Coleslaw - PERFECT for BBQ!

- This Keto/Low-Carb Spicy Coleslaw will be a hit at your next BBQ! If you're on a low-carb diet, there aren't many side dishes you can consume at a BBQ that aren't loaded with carbs - coleslaw is one of the few exceptions. With this recipe, inspired by @samanthamarpe6156 (@keto.sam.iam on IG) is incredible. Just be forewarned - it can get super spicy!
Personally, I make it with a little less mayo, but more mustard and spice than most people. If you let it sit overnight in the fridge, it will be a spice heaven! Of course, you can choose to exclude the spicy mustard, de-seed the jalapenos, and use less cayenne powder!

INGREDIENTS
- ¼ head of a medium white cabbage
- ¼ head of a medium red cabbage
- 1 carrot
- 2 jalapenos
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp mustard (I prefer mustard with horseradish. Usually referred to as 'spicy' or 'deli style')
- 1 tbsp vinegar (any vinegar works well, use whichever you prefer!)
- 1 tbsp erythitrol (I use: amzn.to/2RJKwSC)
- ¼ tsp cumin
- sprinkle of cayenne pepper
- sprinkle of black pepper
- salt to taste, but will need ~2 tsp minimum
DIRECTIONS
1. Using a knife or a mandoline, cut/shred your cabbage into a bowl.
2. Using a vegetable slicer, cut small strips of the carrot. You can also make thin carrot sticks, but this requires more work and a sharp knife.
3. Thinly slice the jalapenos. If you don't like a lot of spice, cut them lengthwise, remove the seeds, and then cut long strips.
4. Mix the the cabbage, carrot, and jalapenos in a bowl until they are evenly mixed.
5. In a separate bowl, add the mayo, mustard, vinegar, erythitrol, cumin, cayenne pepper, black pepper, salt and mix.
6. Once the wet ingredients are well mixed, add them to the dry ingredients (the veggies) and mix well.
7. Cover with plastic wrap and set in the fridge for a minimum of 30 minutes (if you can wait that long).
8. Remove, serve, and enjoy!

Black Tie Kitchen yes it is and the jalapeño let me tell you I used 3 of them from my garden itself 9 cayenne peppers and about 10 hot banana peppers all from the garden I also put in a red onion and probably 3 tablespoons of creamy horseradish along with horseradish mustard and only best foods mayo and it’s a shame I never measure stuff because this is perfect slaw!

A couple of years back Chick-Fil-A took their coleslaw off the menu (Boo!) but they published the recipe for free (Yay!) and that's the one I've been using. I've never added chili to mine, but maybe next time. I'm lazy and use a Braun food processor, but a mandolin also makes for consistent results. And, yes, I've sliced my finger once or twice.
Yup! I was actually looking at the Chic-Fil-A recipe the other day... Still remember the days of eating it in the restaurant lol.
The thing about the finger slicing... someone at thanksgiving is *technically* now a cannibal 😂

Your written recipe says at least 2 TBS salt. I don’t think you meant that, as I tried it EXACTLY as you wrote it and WOW, that was some salty claw. What was to amount of salt you meant to say?

What brand of mayo do you buy?
Usually whatever doesnt have added sugar and doesnt use vegetable oil. The best tasting mayonto me uses sunflower oil, but those are hard to come by and expensive. I believe in this video I used Chosen's avocado oil mayo!

@@BlackTieKitchen Check out (non keto) condensed milk mayonnaise, my family used to use it all the time. It's an actual recipe. I think a keto mayonnaise mite work. When I make it, I'll report back. But not until after I've cleaned, because... Ants.

It seems like it, but you have half a head of cabbage amongst other things that has no salt 😂
Tried and enjoyed. But, I think the 2 Tbl salt was too much. I started with 2 based on the comment in the recipe, but should have really gone to taste. Also, I think some lime juice would add a little brightness.
Did I say 2 tbsp? Might have written it incorrectly and should be 2 tsp 🤦♂️
Way to salty however made it again with 1 tsp to 2 tsp which I think you meant very good.
