Landmark brain study seeks diversity in quest to unlock neurological mysteries

  • In an ambitious effort to understand brain diseases before symptoms appear, Cleveland Clinic's groundbreaking neurological study has already enrolled 3,600 participants, but researchers say more diverse participation is crucial for comprehensive results.
    The 20-year study, aiming to collect data from 200,000 neurologically healthy individuals, has drawn participants from 46 states. While the response has been strong - with over 12,000 people registered - the demographic breakdown reveals a significant gap: Only 5% of participants are Black, 2% Hispanic, and 1% Asian.
    "We need many men and many people of color," researchers emphasize, noting that current participation skews heavily female at 75%.
