  • Invisible zips are my favourite type and once you learn my tips and tricks I'm sure you'll love them too.
    You'll need an additional invisible zip foot for your sewing machine which can be purchased from all good sewing machine shops!

    I watched maybe a dozen "how to sew an invisible zip" vids on UA-cam, and this is the *only* one that talks about how to address the raw edges of the fabric at the seam! Thank you so much for including that info! Great video.

    Thank you so much for a clear tutorial. I have managed to insert a concealed zip in a dress for the first time after several attempts. First mistake was to use an ordinary zip. I didn't have the proper zipper foot for the machine but managed with a normal zipper foot. So grateful to learn something new today!

    After watching endless concealed zip videos this is by far the easiest to follow especially with laying the fabric down with the pattern facing you and placing the right side of the zip on top. Easy but so helpful. Wish I’d seen this video first.

    If I could put a huge thumb up...Thank you so much! This tutorial was perfect. I haven't thought of finishing those fabric edges nicely before attaching the zipper, and at the end of work I always get a frailly fabric under the zipper. For me the zipper part is so random, never one looks like the other, and almost is always kind of messy at the bottom of the zipper. THANK YOU!

    Thanks for the excellent tutorial, Lauren. No matter how many times I’ve put in an invisible zipper, I always watch a tutorial before I stalling one just to keep it all straight in my mind. This is now my go to video. ❤️
    At the very end of the demonstration you said to meet to zip seaming line but you actually stitched a tiny bit away from it...which actually is the best way to avoid puckers. I don’t know why but it works.
    Because UA-cam jumbled up the order in which videos show up the last video of yours I saw you’d just announced your pregnancy. I know to say you’re glowing is cliché so I’m just going to say how beautiful and healthy you look. I hope you’re feeling just as well.

    If you had left the shortening of the zip until after you had installed it, you would have had enough length at the bottom to open the zip beyond the place it ends on your garment and could have sewed it as long as you needed to. That is, always use a zip that is 5cm or so longer than you actually need, and shorten it afterwards.

    Hi Lauren, I always used to do an invisible zipper like this and found it very stressful. I had to rip our and redo my zip so often to get rid of that pucker! I them found Kenneth Kings method on UA-cam and now get 100% success first time with all invisible zippers. Try it out and let us know what you think.

    On the final press don’t iron on the zip part as invisible zips look best when the the fabric rolls near the teeth rather than ironing flat exposing the zipper.

I'm trying to figure out how to put the invisible zip in without making a semi down th whole length of the skirt. I accounted for the zip by adding semi allowance at the waist.

    Useful video thanks but like a lot of tutorials you don’t include how to position the zip in relation to the top of the garment and how to finish the zip at this point ? What to do with those stiff ‘tabs’ at the top of the zip ??!!

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  4 роки тому

      Hi Sharon, Typically they would be caught in the seam allowance when you attach wither a facing or waistband (depending on what you are making). so the actual top of the zip where is closes, usually there are little thicker plastic bits, they should be positioned just below the seam allowance line. I hope that makes sense, best wishes,
      Laure

    I'm trying to install an invisable zipprr, theccx sewing instructions on the pattern asks me to sew the back togethrr up to the zipper stop press my seam allowances and put tge zipper in using an adjustable foot. My daughter gave me a beautiful set of feet fr Mother's day including an invisable foot. My question is my "channels" aren't open to hold the coils out of the way. And I've neen trying to sew a oractice zipper on scraps so that I don't potentially ruin the garment. I am missing a step somewhere. I've watched your tutorial all the wsy through. Ideas??

    • @LaurenGuthrieGhani
      @LaurenGuthrieGhani  3 роки тому

      Hi Connie, I'm not sure what theccx instructions are but I know that there are different methods of inserting an invisible zipper and it sounds like the method in those instructions is different to my method. It's not that one is better than the other they are just different and I would recommend just following one of them as it will be confusing if you try to combine the methods. I'm not sure what you mean by the channels not being open? Do you mean on the invisible zip foot itself?
