IMAGINE, hang in there, this Alienware laptop is definitely worth the wait! Dell is having some problems with customer support, and I am saying this politely. Seems I will be keeping the huge Alienware mouse pad and Logitech M570 wireless Trackball mouse, both of which I ordered from Dell as accessories. I have attempted to contact Customer Support for returns several times, both online and by phone (as is directed from the online form because these are 3rd party items), and have been on hold for more than an hour before hanging up. I own the first version off this laptop, upgraded many components myself and I use an external monitor keyboard and separate mouse! I basically have it set up as a desktop but can quickly unplug everything and take it with me. This should do you great for years to come editing videos and pictures!

I’ve been using the Area 51m R1 for over a year to edit my videos using Wondershare Filmora. It has frozen many times and sometimes the program has crashed. I just ordered the R2 and I’m hoping the improvements will make a difference.

Thanks for asking! 2TB RAID 0 (2x 1TB NVMe M.2 PCIe SSDs) Available storage space is critical for editing and rendering videos, especially 4K. I move all my iPhone and videos to my laptop, and eventually to external storage devices to free up drive space. You can tell it’s time to do this when processes slow down. That’s been my experience over 20 years of digital photography and video.

It takes the two power supplies to power the laptop to it's fullest performance. That's the big daddy you bought. Very nice, I have an M17 R3 that I just received. No. Like most software suites this days, it is a monthly subscription. Adobe Creative Cloud (includes Premiere Po and Photoshop, etc.) is $57.49 a month.
if you want to disable the setting where it makes you have both the adapters in at the same time I'm pretty sure you can do that in BIOS setup, never owned an Alienware so I don't really know how to do that on those laptops, so look it up and you should find something
Also, would you mind expounding on your preference for the numeric keypad? My Lenovo G580 has one but I seldom use it and find myself preferring that my hands/body/face/eyes were centered relative to the keyboard & panel. I know some people really prefer having a keypad. Finally, any BSOD issues with your Inspiron? I had an Inspiron which I bought in 2005 and loved it because it was so great not to be tethered to a desktop PC any longer. But the BSODs were too frequent. It was kinda nuts. My current Lenovo is a 2012 model with an i5. I bumped it up to 16GB RAM and it's been a trooper. But it is running hot these days. Ryan, good questions. Actually, I do not recall any BSOD’s using my 2016 Inspiron. I did experience a number of application crashes requiring a fix and reboot. Regarding the need of a numeric pad, I have a small photography business for which I do the accounting. Also, I have prepared our tax returns for years. That said, when I edit videos, I often zoom in/out digitally and change the audio volume. All involve numbers. Hunting and pecking numbers in a straight line is inefficient, as I discovered when I received my first Dell upgrade, an Inspiron G7.
Seriously? I’ve had a few additional issues, but it’s a Windows laptop. For the most part, this Alienware laptop is performing beyond my expectations. Specifically, I no longer have to convert HEVC H.265 videos to H.264 MP4, nor do I need to creat proxies. This is a HUGE improvement to the 4K video editing process.
Wireless? Do you mean running on battery power? If so, yes this laptop has a battery, and I have used it, powered by battery several times for up to 30 minutes.

Good questions! It does get hot during processing loads at the left and right side air vents, the latter of which made it uncomfortable to use a mouse. So I devised a plastic baffle/spacer that blocks the hot air from blowing on my hand. The fan noise during heavy rendering is not an issue. Yes, mostly. I purchased this laptop for editing 4K videos, high resolution still digital photos and photo montages for my business. But not for gaming. The cost has been worth the benefits. No regrets.
"Not sure why there's 2" Oo, someone doesn't realise how much of a monster they just bought haha. The machine can use up to 500w so it needs 330w plus 180w to run properly. I wish this was more common, my computer regularly draws more power than the charger can provide and runs down the battery even when plugged in.
They shafted the people that bought the first gen a51m. I had one sold mine though. You better put something to protect the bezel around the screen because it scratches very easily.
I have been a victim of the first gen Area 51m. I bought it for $3300 and they sent me a faulty GPU in it. I spent the next one month dealing with Dell customer care who has no idea when the GPU can be replaced. I learned my lesson. Never to buy any technology first gen product, especially first manufacturing batch. I realised that this happened with the initial XPS 15 that got released recently. Uninstalling Alienware OverClock control and set the power type in BIOS mode to "Cool" should make it run faster. These machines have top specs but really need some heat management. Commenting on a new dell G7.

I never understood why they don't ship the Alienware container within a cardboard box. I like to keep the Alienware packaging as new as possible. It acts like a case for it. Sometimes they come in all beat up, who knows how the delivery guys treat it.
A MacBook Pro would have suited you much better. You bought a laptop literally designed for gaming where a MBP is intended for content creators/video editors. Nonetheless, sick laptop.
I would have to agree and I'm not a Mac fan. But you realize Dell, the maker of Alienware, makes workstation laptops specifically for editing? Unlike the Alienware which is made for gaming.
Alienware Command Center, especially, on this laptop is a joke. So buggy! But if it's just for video editing, I think this laptop is an Overkill 😂. I rendered 3 minute 4K video on my Area 51m in Davinci Resolve, it is so fast.
To cool down your laptop: 1. Keep it slightly raise to allow air flow under the fans (cooling pad comes to mind) 2. You can use the Alienware Control Center to undervolt the CPU and control the Turbo speed. This will definitely lower your temperatures! 3. You can choose different fan profiles from quiet to full speed to control fan noise.
You're correct on all but number 2. You cannot undervolt the new gen processors through the command center. If you turn up the fans it doesn't need undervolting any way.

This laptop is for gaming and graphics designing 🤦♀️ For video editing mac book or other laptop with H processors are enough with more battery backup and thin and light weight.

R2 models have a clear coat coating to help prevent discoloration. The r1 didn't. That's why so many get discolored over time

You are not using gpu For exporting video🤦♂️
For example:
Cpu takes: 5 min
Then gpu takes in 20 seconds to export same video
after 80 press ENTER it drove me nuts, not that it matters lol.
The computer works very nice

To cool down your laptop:
1. Keep it slightly raise to allow air flow under the fans (cooling pad comes to mind)
2. You can use the Alienware Control Center to undervolt the CPU and control the Turbo speed. This will definitely lower your temperatures!
3. You can choose different fan profiles from quiet to full speed to control fan noise.
You're correct on all but number 2. You cannot undervolt the new gen processors through the command center. If you turn up the fans it doesn't need undervolting any way.
This laptop is to much power for video editing..
Isn't it good to be future proof for a while...

For video editing mac book or other laptop with H processors are enough with more battery backup and thin and light weight.
Do you have an example of a how to render a 4K HEIC video on a mac to share with us? My Windows 10 Alienware AREA 51M R2 laptop is the BOMB! The only problem is that it does not decrease the time it takes me to edit my videos, the weak point being my aging brain.
