1959 Canadian Pontiac Parisienne, 7500 RPM 283 / 4 Speed, first ride inside

- 1959 Pontiac Parisienne, like all Canadian "7000" series from 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964... all the way to 1972... are actually Chevrolet full size cars, with "Catalina" exterior sheet metal ( yes, the smaller of the Oldsmobile based "U.S. platforms ). Parisienne models typically utilize the U.S. Bonneville exterior trim, and interior style and appointments... but without the giant size !.
This particular example, one of a total of 535 built by GM Canada, is a factory 283 V8, originally a Turboglide.
This 283 is borderline streetable !
12.7 :1, runs on C12.
Idles at 1300 RPM, comes on at 4000, shift at 7500 RPM.
And the shifting is done manually, with a Hurst Super Shifter, on a BW Super T10. Original 1959 Chevrolet /CDN Pontiac rear, rebuilt factory posi, 5.57 gears, using my own re-enforcement upgrades.
This video was done the first day the car was running ( Aug 7, 2022 ), just checking it out.... shifting 6500 - 7000.
Has since been fine tuned and adjusted... driven hard ( video not appropriate for some "groups" of people ! ).
Suffice to say, it proved to be a bit faster than my 409 Chevy NHRA Stock Eliminator car !
Appears that this 283 makes in excess of 500 HP. - Авто та транспорт
Dad used to wonder why his car always ran so good after I had borrowed it for a few hours.
BECAUSE YOU BLEW OUT ALL THE CARBON!
The ol Italian tune up
😅 and never mind all that rubber on the lower rear quarter and inner fender well lol
I got caught flipping the air cleaner lid, I’ll leave it at that 😆
Great to see you drive it the way it was meant to be driven. Too many videos on here where you never even hear a four barrel...
And that's TWO of them!!!!
Times two!!
supposedly, those vidoes are only to sell a car listed online, so i guess they don't want to break their cheap flip job? :)
Or an eight barrel. ❤
Dual Quads,😁 And you know this!
As much as I tend to be a fan of straight-sixes and other smaller engines, the sound of an American v8 hitting upwards of 7000 rpm is a true symphony that just can't be matched.
Literally Canadian
@@jR-kr2fstit tat it's American engineering 😭
Try a BRM V16.

engine has WAY more character than any LS could. those revs sounded incredible
I love LS motors but they don’t sound as good
Carb. Fuel injection never sounds as good.
I don’t know man. LS engines sound pretty good TBH
@iunnox666 with EFI, you pretty much have to go to individual throttle bodies to get somewhat close to that sort of intake sound.
The firing order has a lot to do with the different sound.
Love the sound. And the dashboard.
Dude! That dashboard is ridiculous. So much old school class.
FINALLY.......somebody on utube that knows what to do. TY.
Carburated V8´s sound so good !!!💪
That dash is an experience in and of itself !
I love the attention to detail in the older generation stuff. I am a Marine Tech and work on brand new boats daily, but the real gems we have are mid to late 60s Chris Craft's and the Dash /helm looks like Jewelry in almost every one if them.
Different times
No false economy
Minimal to zero planned obsolescence
Wicked ride, thanks for sharing ! Thumbs 👍 from Brockville Ontario.
Well stated❤😂
Planned obsolescence ruined everything
Modern things may be faster, perform better, and be more reliable, but you CANNOT get the soul and fun of these cars. Awesome stuff
When people say things aren't as good as they used to be I find all the proof I need in the automotive Industry . Look at that beautiful dash for example now compare that to the plastic dash in any modern car .back in the day they built cars to last today they build cars to keep the service department happy and your pockets empty !
This reminds me of my 67 Ranchero I had when I was 18 in 1978. It had a 289 with 69 351 Windsor heads tunnel ram two holly's with velocity stacks and a 4-speed top loader. Oh, to be young again.
The 283 and early Nailheads were among the finest engines ever made, IMO. ❤
The Chevy 302 ci was a 7500 RPM engine right out of the box!
She sounds really nice, just gotta love those ole 283's, my first car was a 65 El Camino with a 283, never blew it up.
That engine sounds absolutely phenomenal
Very impresive!! Soo much power to manage!
Nice to see someone having fun w/ it.
Beautiful car,engine that screams for more,excellent little video!Enough said.😎👍✌🇨🇦
I’ve been on UA-cam since 2006 and this is one of the coolest videos I’ve watched.
Definitely good stuff
Please do an updated ride along!!! That thing sounds like heaven
Had a 327 4 spd in my 68 RS Camaro, love those SBC, new Sub
had 327 from a '65 vette (350hp stock) in my '77 Kamaroo!!...munsi 4 spd and 456 gears... topped out at 65mph, but man... did it get there quick!!... what a sound!!
Respects from Ontario
That brought me back!LOVE those RPMs,man.Had a 71 FORD 302 to rev-out.Canadian-connection on your sweet ride is cool,my 68 Merc is Canadian,too.😎👍✌🇨🇦
Man that thing sounds PISSED OFF, and the manual trans is icing on the cake! 👍👍
I had a 283 in an Astro Van. Engine was a beast and sounded so nice.
I had a 283 in my 65. Chevy impala, it was totally gutless. Had over 300k miles before it died.
What a great car.
I also had a 65 Impala, 4 door, 283, 2 speed power glide...Was a blast to drive!!
If it had the powerglide that would explain it . The six cylinder Chevs with the power glide was considerably worse .
The retro- looking aftermarket gauges are a nice interior touch. Great camera angle to check out the action.
Sounds awesome!! I love speedo’s with Kilometers, makes me think my car is faster than it really is!!!😂
Mate that sounds _amazing_
such a beautiful sound
Thanks for the ride.
I need more from this !!
I neeeeed moorreeee !!
How sweet it is . .
Yeah. Went balls deep on that one. Legit
Great sounding engine 🏴
sounds like perfection
That 283 really sings 😍
what a cool road!
That exhaust tone is from a garage of the Gods.🔥🎶🔥🎶🔥🎶
No reason to mention that badass dashboard. That's up there with the Mercury Monterey 50s dashboards were pieces of art even though they might horribly murder you in a crash.. totally worth it
Wish the video was longer ! Beautiful car !
Best looking dash ever made on any car if you ask me
Best = 60 Chrysler
What a sound!
My mom used to have an 80s Parisienne, and that thing was riding in a luxurious boat. You could fit three full sized biked in the trunk, and still close the lid.
Love the dashboard!
Love that dash
Glorious sound.
Australia had Parisiennes and Laurentians sold at Holden dealers in the 60's and were right hand drive.
Sounds Sweet!
Nice colour too 🎉
283ci is my favorite bowtie engine. Loved how it can rev!
Chris in CO Ford fan
it sounds AWESOME
this is how a muscle car should sound (yes i know its not one)
Beautiful 😍🇺🇲🪓
Excellent!!!❤️🔥
NOW I NEED TO SEE THE REST OF THE CAR.
I only seen the dash and the detail was leaving me in awe.Cant believe the little 283 moves that size car that quick. That was exciting to watch. Thanks!
Great 283 !!
Sounds sooooooo gooD!
Clan machine! Love it!!!!
1964 Chevrolet biscayne with stock 283 would rev 7500 rpm damn good motor wish they’d build motors like those again!
Gold >Cheers From Australia
You have to love the Pontiac history.
I hope GM gets into a healthy position to restore the BRAND.
Agreed.... My wife has one of the last good Pontiacs ( actually mostly manufactured by Holden ), a 2009 G8 GT, 6.0 L V8
Rare one. Some say ugly but strong, others say Pontiac beautiful (Holden).
I'd rebirth Pontiac if I were GM, great hype.

I have always loved 283's, had them in my 64 60 and 57 Chevies. You can rev the p*** out of them and they sound so sweet. The 57 had a BW 4 speed and 4.11 rear end because I drove it mostly around town. It would rev fast out of the hole, so 1st to second was almost instaneous shift. Fun times, lots of money spent on rear tires.
Very cool...
Two words: More Please!
very nice
I had an 85 Parisienne was so dumb to let it go; that car was super great on the highway and my wife still says she wish we had it.
god i love small v8s
7150 rpm max sick 283 boss sounds so good
Wow!😍
283 was 230h.p. w single 4 bbl. Hauled pretty good
Absolutely.. this car was originally just a 2 barrel, but my son ( owner / builder / driver of this car ) also has a 59 Parisienne wagon, which came with the 230 HP engine.
Hot god damn this sounds good.
I had a new 1965 Parisienne 2 door hardtop 4 speed 327/300hp stock that I normally shifted at 7,200
My mom n dad towed a silver canned ham trailer with a 283 2spd auto Laurentian wagon, black with white top. East side AB to the Okanagon and points in between. Only had to get a bag an ice and unvapour lock it once.
My ears are saying they're happy hearing this sound
Thank you the reply. You have left people wanting more...... please add another. Very much appreciated.
People on forums be like: "How dare you drive that way on public roads! You could hit someones house or another car or kids playing in the street!"
I would have liked a walk around prior to the demonstration😂
That's beautiful man..Im in Australia. I didn't know Pontiac made a Parisienne in 1959. 💪💪💪
1958 was the first year... very rare. This 59 is actually my 22 year old son's car... his build, he's driving. He also has a 59 Parisienne Safari wagon ( 322 built ), project , with the same green interior. His plan is to prepare it to trailer this one.
All cars should sound like this, in law no 1 on the vehicle manfacturers design brief is 'sounds like this' then followed by minor consideration like emissions and safety :D
Unfortunately I don't think carburetors will be making a comeback.
Got to love farm Roads
Wow👍🏼
Hell yeah 👍
Sick
Nice
Sheesh man let her RIP HELL YEAH
I'm green with envy, do you know how rare a flat straight road is to find in British Ccolumbia. Send some our way please.
Yes, I DO know... I got my drivers license in Revelstoke ! In the right car, it's nice to feel G's going around corners too.
Man oh man
Real nice. Where can this car be seen running in person? Thanks.
South eastern Alberta, Canada.
Is that a factory 283 4 speed car ? There was a few made , 7 of them with 348 and a 4 speed..
HHMM... This particular car was originally 283 2bbl, Turboglide automatic. A total of 535 V8 Parisienne sport coupes built. I've been doing 59 to 64 Canadian Pontiacs for over 40 years, and have owned a few factory 409 4 speed equipped examples. To my knowledge, no 4 speed in a Canadian Pontiac until 1963. If there IS such a 59 Parisienne in existence... yeah, you'd have something right there ! BTW, this is my 21 year old son's car... his plan, his build !
I will always have a soft spot for 50s and early 60s cars. That retro futuristic design sound are an awesome combo.
epic
bro lives in the windows xp background
MINI Mouse Engine.......hot
Damn if she ain't a Screamer!
What rear gear ratio do you have? That thing was already revving at almost 4000 rpm coming out of that corner.
Lots ! In this video, had 5.57's. Following day, ran this car against my 409 Chevy NHRA stock Eliminator car... sise by side. Later that day, twisted off an axle ! ( 30 spline conversion in now )
My friend used to call it a "Panzerini" the 85 model..
the 283 is so misunderstood.... man wish i kept the one i had. what you can do with that block, and the power they could make..... NOTHING beats the sound of the ole iron based engines.
theraputic if you ask me
That is nice. Canadian Pontiacs are cool. It's my dream to own a big block one. Do you have to run straight race gas or can you mix it with pump gas?
This one is my son's car, and no, can't mix the fuel ( 12.7:1 ! ) ! Runs on straight C12.
I personally have two factory 409 / 4 speed 64 Pontiacs.
@@Cstock6409 Very cool. How many 409 cars are out there to be had? Are they just in Parisiennes or also in Laurentians, etc?
Jordan... one of mine is a 64 Laurentian 9 passenger wagon... 340HP 409 / 4 speed.... only pne(1) built.
Oh yes that is a real engine
now that's what i like to hear! hate those videos with a title like "V8 SOUND EARGASM" and then it's just 2 minutes of idling.
