- How much XP can you store in a Shulker Box? There are, broadly four main ways to store xp. You can store items and fuel to smelt, you can store ores to break, you can store items to disenchant, or you can fill a box with xp bottle. Which one allows you to store the most xp?

So, in the end, bottles of enchanting are the only practical option. The others are theoretically interesting, but far more labor intensive
If labor isn't counted or limited, there's a lot of options, like having a box fill of perfect pickaxes and saying "go mine"

pretty much... unless you can think of something better. I would say that if we are just talking practical, than the reason you would need it is quick repairs far from your xp farms... so, you really won't need all that much xp, and the books/armor you get from random loot are probably enough to get you back home, so that may be more practical than trading to get all the bottles even though a lot less overall xp stored.
you honestly don't get enough credit for these, the research which went into just this one video is more than I can say about any other minecraft video I watched in the last month, you are AWESOME and I am so excited to work with you and hopefully see you smash that 50k sub benchmark!!! AMAZING!!!!

I thought it was a shulker box full of emerald blocks... use them to trade for xp bottles because u get xp from the trade and from the bottles.. of course the villager must be the cheapest prices
that is pretty clever... but more of a villager trading farm than really stored xp

@@EagleEye621 I posted a comment similar, except you need a farmer in addition to the priest. Then you fill the rest of your slots with hay bales since that gives you 9x64 wheat per slot.
I guess to be fair maybe you'd have to, at a minimum, include the cost of curing the villagers to max out their trades... so a bunch of golden apples and weakness potions.
When bundles hit it will change some of this math a tiny bit, but mostly preserve the ratios. Some of the things have 'XP item plus fuel+furnace' sort of combos, but with a bundle the fuel+furnace would only take one slot.
I only have one question, how you put villager inside a shulkerbox (without spawn egg of course). If considering this variant, that's a lot of cured villager trades that lead to infinite xp or/and emeralds. For example glass trade with librarian and glass bottle trade with the priest, or glass panes with cartographer.
So I'd count this as a farm.
Do a Shulker box of ender chests but the ender chests have 64 xp potions in each slot

i noticed that you used water in the intro where you were discussing the cactus-bamboo farm, you dont actually need water to grow bamboo or cactus.
... yeah... not sure why i did that... must have been thinking green plant... sugar cane... need water... lol... i mean, it was all part of a super subtle hint toward the answer at the end... :P
It's fantastic how you explain that you can get a lot of xp disenchanting books, but combining those together costs more

I cant wait to see a fully automatic afk sponge/carpet dupper xp farm. Not very useful but sounds so fun.
it should be doable... funnel the dry sponges into a dispenser, player afk places them into a piston system which gets them wet again, moves them into a blast chamber, exploded, funneled back into the furnace system... and around and around it goes :P

Could it be timed to be placed with the left hand and mined with a hoe in the right? With this and a honeyblock dupper the resources would be minimal.
Excellent video, missed this format. Fishing comes to mind, giving 3.5 xp average per catch and with an afk fishing farm you can get a lot of xp pretty fast with lure III. How would that compare in speed with the sponges tho, no idea
that falls into the farm category and since any farm is basically infinite xp, is cheating for this challenge :)

Bells make illagers glow so you can find them in caves
Using a blast furnace/smoker halves the xp you get from smelting stuff.
Flabbergasted by how you combined the book enchantments in survival. My usual method to combine got me a total cost of 177 levels, with the final combination at 45 levels, which is not only not doable in survival, but also more levels than your method at 172 levels.
Did you figure a systematic way to plan any enchantment combinations, or was it trial and errors to make this one particular case work?
(My own method is to first order the books from most to least cost of combining, and then combine them 2 by 2 in... A binary tree fashion 😬? That's not very clear, I can give you an example if you want?)
your method is my normal method. I call it pyramid combining so that everything is placed in the anvil as few times as possible, also lining them up to use the cheapest things (as shown in the video). It was trial and error. When my pyramid combinations method didn't get me what I thought it would, I cheated some books into the world to see if certain pre-made books could help, which they could but didn't work in the way that I thought they would. So I trial an error my pyramid method with as many as I could fit in, than when i couldn't add another at that level (think four combo with another four combo) I tried to put in a fresh book into that four combo and it worked... so took that same book and tried a two combo into that four combo... and that worked, but the 3 combo didn't... so backed it down and combined the two combo into a fresh book and than into the four combo... which... worked... even though based on what I thought I knew about combining it shouldn't have. Not sure I would call it systemic as outside of this 'xp in a box' puzzle, there is no use case where the pyramid method doesn't work, but it would appear that some combining different sized pyramids it superior than just the normal one.
That is why I said in the video I think they changed something since I did my research for the god armor videos, and never told people about the changes. I think there could be better, but (especially with all the other research that went into this video) my brain could only take so many attempts :P
all of that said... if you manage to figure out how to squeeze more in (and I am pretty confident with more understanding or more trial and error it should be possible) please let me know :)
Not a practical method, but honorable mention. Wither boss on kill gives you 50xp. To have maximum withers in one box, you need 720 heads (11 stacks + 1 slot with 16) and 960 soulsand(15 stacks) (unless you can somehow spend less than 4 soulsand and 3 heads to spawn one). In total that gives you 240 withers and 12000xp, that fairly close to the bottles).
Upd: If you use new bundles, you can put additional 6 wither kits in that not full stack (24 soulsand and 18 heads + that 16 heads). That gives you 246 withers and 12300xp.
yes... 1.16 right now so bundles don't count (if they did you could add more fuel to the sponge box too :P ) ... but yes... although my brain thinks mob farm any time mobs are involved... and even without that ... i think you might need some food/weapons in that box as wel if you are going to fight that many withers :P

If you have to obtain the items in survival it would be diamond or emerald ores(can't remember which is better)

@@EagleEye621 I don't know if it's still possible but at one point there was an exploit for it that worked kind of like the exploit for getting bedrock on sci-craft... but actually it's been so long... I think maybe they were just able to move them, not pick them up, and you had to know where they were before hand from seed info and use some crazy rules about generating chunks... I can't seem to find a video on it. I've been playing since about 1.47 so I might have seen the video quite a ways back, or just be remembering things wrong...

If we allows to use cheated things we can create stackable sticks with every enchantment, little tricky os that how the stack to 64. So 64 sticks in one slot with every possible enchantment should give us a crazy amount of exp

Late comment but surely there's something possibe with challenge advancements?
My guess for the maximum box: 26 32k swords would beat everything but glitched stacks of 64 is what I guess for the theoretical max.

The best is simply a sword with mending on it. Don't need a farm, can get xp while multitasking unlike most of these methods, and you can get infinite xp, unless we count the entire world as just a convoluted mob farm ;)
yes... running around the world killing things is just a very inefficient mob farm :P

As cool as it is i would personally call that a farm for water but it’s a very cool game mechanic so I really don’t care if it wouldn’t count
if it makes you feel better, you could dump the water back onto that same sponge that just filled the bucket... :)

i know i'm late but the best way i can think of is a shulker full of crystals, with which you would respawn the ender dragon over and over again
not a bad answer... but... I think that would classify more as a mob farm :P

hmm maybe spawners you can get them in b 1.9 pre 4 and they do give you a lot of xp, but they give you a different amount in different versions i think less in newer versions but i haven't tested it.
even if you cheat a spawner into the box... 100% that would be a farm and doesn't count :P
@@EagleEye621 when you mine spawners they give you xp, and you don't have to cheat them in you can get them in b1.9 with silk touch

@@EagleEye621 hmm maybe in older versions? cus i have used spawners to get xp in past worlds (1.4) but i saw that round 27 got you lvl 30-29 but there are no shulker boxes in this version but idk when they changed the xp amount so i don't think this would count

sort of... you need to have the original god armor from 1.14.1 or 1.14.2, and you can upgrade it in 1.16 to add the soul speed

God Armor... only was possible in java 1.14.1 and 1.14.2 ... and even though they marked it as works as intended they removed it in 1.14.3
in 1.17 since Alva is renewable, you could bring a lava bucket a few blocks and a drip stone and wet sponges and you have infinite xp
#Spoilers... though at that point I think you would consider it a lava farm... which is kind of cheating... but this is also 1.16 (if 1.17 bundles would have let me fit more fuel in the sponge box)

It does have an absolute limit since it still has a fuel limit. Maybe the way to define it then is 'As much xp in a shulker box without some method that gives you infinite xp by farming'.
@@nacoran Yes. That’s why I suggested cactus + coal blocks. There is a limited amount of coal blocks, and thus not infinite xp, but the limit is like 7 or so times as high.
I do feel .ike anvils are kinda broken as i feel like they should take away xp and not levels. It took so lomg for me to once grind up to 100 levels, then in a mtter of minutes all of it poofed into enchantments. Anvils should be reworked imo (and i think even enchantment tables also have this stupid feature)
and make gold anvils for higher level enchantments :)
