Hi Ollie, I never usually comment but just wanted to say thanks for your videos in general and especially thanks for this video. I have an EP3 too, and can relate to you on everything you cover. Although I’m keeping/working back towards making it standard. Have been thinking I should check the rust for ages but always put off. This video has inspired me to get back on it. Look forward to seeing how it goes. Will you share video/photos of before and after and the progress between? Would be really keen to see how you get on
Thanks man! I wanted this video to be a PSA for anyone with an EP3 to try and save as many as possible. Appreciate you watching the other videos too! I guess they aren’t as useful as they push the car further away from what you are doing with yours! Haha Ideally I want to cover the whole process but because it takes so long and they are 2 hours away. I don’t know how I can do it at the moment
Biggest favour my 53 plate got was when I moved to Oz in 2007, and got it shipped here in 2009. Used to live next to the sea in UK (but garaged every night). Australian quarantine services steam cleaned it underneath two times as they were paranoid about mad cow disease at time time, so goodbye road salt. Didn't know the facelifts had the carpeted rear arches - mines a late pre-facelift so no carpeting. It's 20 years old this September, and still looks mint underneath with no signs of rust.
I have an 05 reg 5-door, and I had rust at those exact places, like the end of the sill and arch lip, had those areas repaired, everything else didn't seem too bad, just scrubbed off the surface rust and waxoiled the whole underside, bumpers skirts off etc, hopefully good few years still to live now for the old civic
@@ismailkartout4844 I depends. How badly it's rusted, who does the job and how much they charge. Ideal if you have the skills to do it yourself. Mine wasn't too tragic, first local garage I went to quoted me about £400, but then I found a different one and those guys sorted me for £250
I will try to when I do eventually get the work done. The problem with it taking a couple weeks is that they are 2 hours drive from me. Hard to keep making trips up there to see how it’s going. I will have to figure something out though!
Good stuff from these guys. I went to a Body Shop to get mine restored along with smoothing the engine bay but not everyone can do that. Good to see someone in the Honda game offering this service
Hi Olli! How's the subframe brace bar behind the engine looking? Have you had that looked at or replaced it? Most are rusty and lots of people have said there's no need to replace it as it does nothing... Wondered if you've come across it?
Mine is a little crusty but it's not too bad compared to what I have seen. It isn't on my current list of things to change but we shall see when it heads to Motion for the underside work
Lucky my EP3 has cover protective shield underneath when it was brand new and hasn't exposed much with the Nature. Can't spot any rush still, however I would like to repaint the whole car inside out and engine bay anyway in next year. Stays neat and always be protective from day one.
@@OllyRoss i mean i had pictures and all, been on the lift a couple a year and it looks good...but still get a bit nervous seeing all the salt on the road and how dirty it gets one single day after a wash xD
Really great to see the breakdown on this, mine is worse than yours but my inner wheel arches are decent (lips are shagged though). I think once I reach a point where I have 3k sat there to throw at it, I'll have to pop down for a quote!
Honestly, can’t thank you enough for making this video, it’s give me an indication on what I’m gonna have to save for😭, worried about mine as it’s covered in under seal and the back arches are starting to go, hopefully I can get mine sorted
No worries man! That is exactly what I wanted this video to do for people! It’s getting to the point of no return for many EP3’s so hopefully this will help save a few.
Grate chanel, can't help but think this video is going to help save a lot of hondas 👌🏻 My 06 prem is due in with dave towards the end of February to complete a fully forged turbo build . And I can wait 😎
Did they take the side skirts off and look at the outer sills? I recently had my ep3 in for rust work and even though it wasn't horrendous I had all the inner sills done and arches but also turned out the outer sills were on there way out too so had to get them done also
Hi mate, not long found your page, as I bought an EP3 off collecting cars a couple of weeks ago 😅 cars great, taking it to be looked at this week but seems all ok, apart from a weird whining noise just as you get to 5000rpm? Is that where yours did it in this video? I will have to give honda hq a visit too after your recommendations, not far from me 👍🏼 Great videos by the way After all the help I can get with this thing 👍🏼
Thanks for checking out the channel! Congrats on the pick up! Hopefully the check up went ok. Mine wasn't that high up, it was around motorway cruising rpm really. Yeah, they are great over there so you can't go wrong.
The trick is to get it before it's anything more than surface corrosion. Would be cheaper then. Underseal contains carcinogenic compounds that stop rust progression.
So, this video confirms it's an old Honda 😂 I had exactly the same rust on my S2000, I'd advise you get them to check yours as well. Rear sill/arch areas and a couple spots underneath. I repaired mine myself, but given the opportunity having it done by a professional would have been nice
Awesome video, good information to share 👍 My heart sank when the screwdriver went in 😱 Definitely will check mine too, don't know how bad it is behind the lovely rear arch carpets 😬😬
That is what I wanted this video to be for everyone. A PSA to save as many EP3's as possible! Haha. Yeah, it was inevitable really! I knew I wasn't going to get away without something like that. I am hoping yours isn't too bad! Good luck!
That’s our car, and the first time seeing it since we sent it from Norway! 😅 Looks good. 😃
Damn! That is so rad! Well I’m glad I could give you an update on your car! Haha

Good to know that it happens to all the Civic's of this generation! Nice that you got it sorted too!
how much does it cost
@@ismailkartout4844 what exactly?
@@arturseversons3444 in terms of getting all the rust sorted whats the price range roughly?

Really glad i watched this video, looking at a low mileage one which has had rear work done 2 years ago, thanks to this video i know what to check! 👍👍
No worries! I am glad this was here for you to potentially save you from buying a lemon of a car
Something I worry about with my FN2, it's fairly clean underneath but it's an old Honda so will need to be dealt with eventually!
Just keep an eye on the rear beam mate. Everything else is covered by the plastic underbody shield.
Yeah, classic Honda things! Worth looking every once in a while to see how it’s doing
Get it rust proofed do it every 2 years on the outside and every 4 inside panels, that's what they do in the rust belt of Canada
So whens it getting sorted? Looking forward to pics and videos of the work being done
It is one of the things next on the list. Just need to figure out how to afford it! Haha
JDM Import is the safest option as they dont seem to suffer from rust (usually) as they dont see harsh winters or grited roads.
That is true, if you have the money for one then it's definitely the one to go for
Oh you so wrong, in japan they dont even protect the car from factory, and they do rust alot in there.. you right about the salt and grit.
Good stuff from these guys. I went to a Body Shop to get mine restored along with smoothing the engine bay but not everyone can do that. Good to see someone in the Honda game offering this service
They definitely know their stuff, that's for sure! Good to hear that you saved your car too though!
@@OllyRoss was a fresh import, came off the boat straight to the body shop haha. But I know what you meant haha 👍🏼
Did the pulley bits fix the supercharger like noise? I believe i have the same noise to be fair
Yeah, fully sorted it. I only had them on the drive to Motion which was very lucky timing I guess! Worth looking into if you think yours is the same

Great video! Got my EP3 sorted with Motion towards the end of August last year, work was brilliant & well worth peace of mind knowing it is protected
Yeah, they are the top dogs when it comes to this work. That peace of mind I haven’t had since owning this car will be worth it alone! Haha

Nice! Sounds like you are all good then! Will be ever better once you have done what you are planning too!
Bought mine already undersealed but with winters like this im always paranoid about rust and if the job was done right
That is a tough one. I guess you didn't get to see the condition of it before it all went on from the previous owner either?

deciding on buying a u.s. ep3 is this something that is as rampant here as in the uk
I don’t know to be honest but it’s worth checking the car for rust before you buy.

They didn’t. I am sure they would find it when carrying out the work if it was there too
How much did it cost if you don’t mind me asking?
If you are looking for an ep3 better off buying/importing a JDM thats mint underneath. Will hold the money better too.
It is getting that away. Or buy a UK car that has had this work done already! Haha
I have an EP1 that lived by the sea all it's life, it would be interesting to see how the minor rust is "treated...
Yeah, I can imagine that it probably isn't great under there

I haven’t had an issue. What is wrong with yours?

Thanks Ollie for a very good informative video. I need to pop over to motion with my EK at some point soon.
No worries! Glad you found it useful! Yeah, head over there and mention you came because of me! haha
So roughly £3000 to £5000 for most ep3s, because most have been welded or need welding, also most been undersealed previously.
Yeah, that’s a fair estimate. Unless you want to do the full powder coating and nut and bolt replacement too… then it’s around £2k on top of that

They have already had a look at the S2000 so that’s not as bad. (There is a video on that too)

Thanks!
Did honda name the type r because the grade of rust is type r or is it just rust
Hahahaha! That is amazing!

How much will this company charge you?
It is explained in the video that it starts at £2500 depending on what your car needs doing
My last question would be, do u finance 🤔 😆 🤣
Haha! Yeah, it is a serious chunk of change!
2500 rather do it myself😂
