  • In this tutorial we learn how to make a randomized resample track on the Octatrack. This can be done live during a performance or for creating glitchy stems. This technique is very fun, customizable, and unique sounding on any composition.

    These bitesize videos are so good. Just got a Octatrack and I know it just takes time to get comfortable, but every one of these videos makes me excited to get back into it.
    Great job
    You are indeed the patron saint of Elektron

      Yes I couldn’t agree more. How is your journey going with the OT now? Do you feel like you have a good grasp on it yet? I feel like a stalker watching his tutorials over and over again, but for me the OT has proved to be a tough beast to tame. Although, over the last few days I feel like I’ve had a breakthrough with it and I’m over the hill with - it so to speak

      The learning curve for the OT is steep, but it feels like it has a steep drop off as well so after it is more intuitive and working with it just flows

    Is it possible to automate the re-slicing at zero crossing and creating random locks so you can just immediately start to cross-fade once it's done resampling?

    The random only happens once you hit create random, right? I am trying to do this on a static machine. Is that why its not randomizing constantly?

    Thanks for the video!
    Did you saw the somalabs cosmos pedal that manipulates with few delay lines and offset?
    Could you share your thoughts on how it can be achieved on the octatrack? Or something similiar:)
    It's interesting, how the resampling, different buffer sizes and delays can be combined in creative but predictable way.

    Is it correct that you can not play a buffer backwards (rate on negative values) while recording that same buffer on an other track? Is there a way?

  • @lwpweb

    my understanding is the random slicing is to determin a random slicing which itself after randomly sliced stays the same. Is it possible to invoke the random slicing process auto? So that f.e. every 4 bars is done a new random slice result?

    How do you compare it with slices step randomisation from hold LFOs ? I have to check if it gave the same render .

    Thank you. Another tip to add life to live sampling
    However, without using inputs AB CD suppose I have two identical samples on two tracks 1 and 5 and have trk 5 play random slices and X between 1 and 5, will the results be the same ?

    • @EZBOT_
      @EZBOT_  3 роки тому

      If you are sampling the master track or the mains it should be the same results :)

      @@EZBOT_ okay, cool. Just making sure there wasn’t some shortcut to normalize or something similar. Thanks dude.
      I am an Elektron dork and have all the current machines. I started with the RYTM and it was super easy to learn. Knowing that made every other machine quite easy except the Octatrack. I am a fast learner and pick up tons of gear without even using the manual but the OT is just different. I know the basics but I’ve never been able to do exactly what I want with it like I can the other boxes. When I play live I take a RYTM/A4 combo and an MPC Live or Force. I use a regular mixer now but I’d really love to just use the Octatrack as an fx mixer and to do looping stuff like this. I also want to sample and perform songs I’ve made over the years with various devices. I know the OT is capable of doing what I need I just need to get faster with it and not constantly rely on looking up tutorials.
      Anyways, just babbling. Your videos are helping and I dig your channel in general. I also like Cuckoo’s and Red Means Recording. Anyone else you can suggest?I am a Patreon and have your template. I just want to be a little more proficient before I load that up. But yeah, If you ever come through Texas let me know and I can set you up with a show!

    Amazing. Just starting my octatrack journey. I set up everything perfectly and it works flawlessly except for one thing: my screen keeps jumping to track 8, the master track. Not a big issue, but annoying while I'm trying to edit track 7.

    Nice, but why did you set xfade on the channel level to min?

    • @EZBOT_
      @EZBOT_  3 роки тому +1

      So that I could mute all the tracks and only hear the sampled version. I did it to tracks with nothing on them just for the demonstration because that’s what you would do to have it function correctly.

    Is there a reason you use the XMIN on one side and then lock the volume to 0 on the other, rather than using XMIN and XMAX?

    • @EZBOT_
      @EZBOT_  3 роки тому +1

      Trial and error. I found that it works better and causes less errors. It’s easy to accidentally adjust the track level among a few other reasons.
