You defintely are "THE octatrack guy"! great pedagogy and straight to the point
Thank you EZBOT!
make sure you have quick record mode set to ON before trying this or it won't record by clicking rec3. Setting is found in System>Personalize>"Record Quick Mode"
thank you, this helped me
Thanks for the tip, didn’t use Octa since a while and was going nuts.. 💜
damn.. if I had read this I wouldn't have wasted 30 min of my life trying to figure out why it didn't work :D
god bless this comment

Fast way to listen to recorded saved sample when done on master track 8, is go to a new bank. Then for exemple go bank 2 pattern one and listen to it. As each new bank use a new parts set. So you don’t have to mess up you other layout. Going to a new bank is also a good place to do extra mangling/processing on that sample, is in new bank, then bring it back in your original bank to use in that arrangement.
Nice tip!
That was my process too. Bank 1 would be drums on each track. Resample a beat, go to B2, load the loop on Track 1 and move on
I used to listen on bank 16, pattern 16 (quicker selection). But I tend to record with T4, close to MIDI button (SRC3 recording on MKI)
@@wiliwowmusic1625 I came here to ask about that - how to achieve this on a mk1. I'm very early into the Elektron experience and still finding the workflow opaque and counter intuitive, but the more I watch others using the OT the more familiar I'm becoming with the layout and functionality, so I'll crack this thing eventually. Maybe I'll have to break the habit of a lifetime and RTFM! :D
@@TimJacksonOriginal same principle on MKI. I can't see the difference for now. I just precised SRC3 recording is MIDI button for MKI.
Maybe on MKII it would be easier to use T1 and REC3...
You make me chuckle. You remind me of Ron Bergundy. Love the tutorials
great the demonstration of Mastertrack as a sampling resource with the Rechnung busier 8. Thanks
Thanks for the tutorial, excellent. Getting back (attempting) to understand and learn the OT mk1 again, after a year or so of being stored way.
Love this. One thing to definitely watch out for when recording using fades FIN and FOUT - this will get rid of the first transient when recording drum loops. Even on the smallest setting you can hear the difference it makes at 4:55 in this video. The resampled version loses attack on the first transient
This is a fact! Thank you for mentioning that :)
Just got an Octatrack. This explanation is amazing. Thank you
Hell yeah, congrats!
Oktatrack was sold to me! Thx for video!
Tutorial’s so good I didn’t want it to end, ever 😅
Loving the CUE tip for bussing together tracks for resampling. This reminded me of something I was reading in the manual the other night - you can send either pair of stereo inputs to the CUE bus with [CUE] and the [REC1/2] keys. I have no current use for this feature but in combo with the audio tracks this could make for very flexible resampling.
You have to be careful with your cue levels though, they are separate from the track level
Always ready for more EZBOT OT content 🙌🙌
This is great stuff and very helpful. I did get stuck for a little because I'm on a MK1 (thus, no Rec 3 button). You can still get there, but you need to cross reference a few other keystrokes (which are in the Oct manual). Thanks again. Great stuff!
whats the rec 3 substitute for mk1? EDIT: it was TRACK+MIDI
I like the mustache.
Gas for OT mkii is strong but still such a curve.. it’s defo a commitment but you’re nailing it!
Thanks Jade :) let me know if you want some help with it, I’d be happy to share some tips
Thanks - really helpful! Especially how to listen back to the recording I was always trying to find it on the track and getting confused 😂😂😂
Nicely done, Matt. Always fun to watch your vids and learn cool shortcuts.
Thanks!
This has been brilliant, thanks 🙏
I figured this out while trying to figure out WHY was my buffer recording although I did not have recording one shot trig on or anything. It is WAY more convenient for internal resampling.
Hey thanks for the video! When resampling like this from either the master out or the cue out will the effects on the master track be resampled?
Is there a way to resample tracks without the master (track 8) effects?
Thanks
Thanks! Great video 🎉 It will really help me for my next jams!
Thanks for continue to share this tips 🔥
Banger of a video as usual
very clear! Thanks Mathew!
Mustache is right there! Right there! Beautiful
You can cue up a recording by hitting Rec3? Does that work for 1+2? Is there a setting that needs to be on? Solid tips as always, keep up the good work!
unsure on mk2, but on the og there is a setting personalise called 'quick recording' - check the manual for more detail, but it basically allows one button recording. without you need 2 buttons (track button plus rec source button)
Thanks!
Thank you!

Not sure what you mean, I only work with Patchwerks in regards to video. Is that what you meant?

@@proxymerchant Ahh yes, that is Patchwerks TikTok channel! :)
@@EZBOT_ well you and your resposne were memorable and entertaining - AND you are now my go-to for learning my Octatrack 2 I just got!)
@@proxymerchant haha, I love to hear this :) thanks!
Nice new intro! I'll have to try it out with a guitar input on T1 and T2.
Thanks!
nice. loving the new intro too!
Thanks Alex! I had a friend make it for me
I love way that 'ridiculously easy' on the Octatrack is really complicated
No shortcuts to happiness with the Octatrack
What a pleasant video! Thank you :)
Digg it! You mention using a compressor 0:42 in your studio, what kind of unit do you use when performing live? Mixer with built-in comp. or separate unit?
SSL Big Six G Bus Compressor. I dont typically use one when I play but I have been eyeing the warm audio stereo bus compressor.
Kind comment for ya, doc!
really helpfull ! thanks boss
keep going !
so helpful thanks
great tips, thank you! Is there any difference when sampling from MAIN vs T8 (track 8) when choosing your record settings, assuming you have T8 set as a Master track?
You can sample main but it will take into account the +/- values you have applied to your mains. So Sampling may not be consistent in regard to volumes. Sampling a master track with the track value at 127 will produce perfect results no matter what the mains are at.
@@EZBOT_ ahh makes sense. Thanks Matthew!
@@EZBOT_ thanks! I was having some level inconsistency sampling main, didn't realize changing the mixer main level was causing that, cleaning that up is a really strong case for master track
@@EZBOT_ Just found this comment and deleted my comment asking the same thing. Thanks for the clarification! So if my mixer main is at +/- 0 should it be identical to master track at 127?
@@FiniteStateMachineMusic YES! You got it :)
when you say you have to "cue up" 6'43'' is there a way to see the track is "cued up" on track status screen? i just see a little dot next the bpm when i Cue+track but after nothing really tells me the track is Cue or not isn't it?
"you can do what you want" loled here
Really usefull video, thanks :)
I'm little concerned about one thing, hope you can help me: when i record through the main (or master) one track that comes from an external instrument, i can perceive a little bit of noise, if i record using A B input this noise isn't here, and i haven't to increase gain of recording from AED attribute. Plus, i've noticed by accident that if sampling, for example input A B (INAB = A B), using REC3 (with SRC3 = - ), a very very weak sound coming from external instrument is still captured, summed with some noise.
I dunno if i'm doing something wrong 😮
Nice one! Yea its always a bit fuzzy how rec buffers are related to tracks, and how flexible they are..
Im currently testing out some live mic techniques where I have the track set to a flex track and the rec settings looking at the input where the mic is hooked up to, even though there is no Thru track for it. and I can sing into the mic as its recording, and only after the recording loop is done then you hear it on your mix. Sometimes pre sliced and chopped which is always fun. the reason as to why I would do it this way is that I was running out of tracks and I wanted to avoid having to have a thru plus a flex dedicated to the mic. I know.. different than what you got here but losely related.. Anyways, as always thanks for the cool video!
Thank you!
if you microtime either playback or rec trigs you can hear it as you sing (though ymmv as there is a minor delay... )
@@tomesmusic OT always with a little trick up it’s sleeve for almost everything
Really appreciate your videos man. I've got a MK1, do you (or maybe someone else) know the equivalent for Rec3/Func+Rec3 for the MK1?
FUNC + MIDI? I think? I don't own a MK1
Either one of the Record Buttons + Bank will take you to the record buffer of the currently selected track.
@@did8935 YES that's right! I forgot about that, thank you
Such strong opinions about the master track, am I the only one who prefers not to use it? You only get eight tracks! I use direct input on the mixer a lot for synths and I still find myself running out
You're not wrong about running out but I think the OT is best used with other gear.
@@EZBOT_ absolutely agree! Master track not required for that though
wow i didnt know this for all these years??
Awesome🔥🔥
So is it safe to say that the gain / volume settings on the Octa are like the knobs on a guitar with passive (no battery) pickups? Attenuation only? I'm trying to get a handle on gain staging the Octatrack.
No, just the track level and direct in work that way. Amp=0 and track level 127 is unity
Cool, cool. Thank you very much! I'll be working on that.
Great information but I'm having a technical issue, when trying to resample selected tracks with cue, every time I playback those sample with a flex machine there is a big gain boost on recorded sample. Volume in the flex track is at 127 and the thru machines have also max volume. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions
Check your CUE level in the mix menu
Hey EZBOT, are there any System Settings that Need to be adjusted before doing this? Im following EVERY Step in your Video, Second Boy Second, but when i press record it just wont record. Does it need to be a blank Track? Or do i maybe need to put a Recording Trigger somehow? Im pretty down, this is the third Session im trying to resample and it just wont work. What am i missing?
Hold the TRACK you want to record on and press the REC 1, 2, or 3 at the same time(depends on what source you want to record form). I have QUICK record turned on so thats why it seems confusing, you can turn that on in the PERSONALIZE settings. That way it only takes 1 button press.
Just solved it myself. There actually IS a System Setting thats Not activated when you First get it, which is „record quick mode“. Go to project, then system, then personalize and all down the row you will find it. Just in Case somebody Needs to know this. :)
Anyone know why I can’t quick record during playback? I can hit rec3 while playback is stopped, and see the buffer recording. I can then press play and it will capture what is playing. But rec3 does nothing when playback is already occurring. Very strange and frustrating. Not sure what is interfering here.
Alright. Guess I’m gonna watch this another 5 times until I can freely record into my octatrack. How do you turn track 8 in and out of a master track? Why do I need to use a trig to record? lol I think I’m in the middle of an Octatantrum
You don’t need a trig to record, that’s what we go over in this video is just hitting the buttons :) Master track is located in the audio settings, in the Project settings menu. To have it function just as it did for me turn on Quick Record in the personalize settings.
Thank you for your amazing content!
Why @ 2:22 in Recording Setup don't you set SRC3 to MAIN instead of T8 + configuring T8 as MASTER?
So I can have a consistent unity gain recording and still adjust the outgoing volume
Ugh I still need an Octatrack
New to this. And going to sound stupid. But what is a masterr track for???
i tried 2 times to download template from kofi, with credit card authorized 2 times the payment from my bank, but then a PayPal windows appears, no way to get out from that PayPal window, and the download don't start... it's mandatory to have PayPal? i hope i will no
pay 2 times for no template :((( there is another way to purchase it please?
That’s weird, I’ve not heard this issue before. My email is on KoFi, shoot me a message and we will sort it out
How do you do this on octatrack mk 1?
Hi, nice guide, but why have you disabled inputs ab and cd if we were using REC3 button anyways? Isnt it designed to record only internal anyways?
ua-cam.com/video/qcfjc2w_L60/v-deo.html
Just preventing myself from accidentally recording other sources. The buttons are small and I am clumsy
@@EZBOT_ appreciate you!
When i press rec3 my octatrack doesnt start recording, anyone have an idea why?
make sure you have quick record mode set to ON before trying this or it won't record by clicking rec3. Setting is found in System>Personalize>"Record Quick Mode
rumors say new Octa soon🎉
Where are the leaks?
That's legit just a rumor, I would not expect a new Octatrack :/
lol no they don't
@@EZBOT_ it would've been funny if you gave a "I can neither confirm nor deny it" response but you seem bummed about it too. :/ If an Octatrack mk3 does come out some day it's gonna be my first big hardware purchase for sure
