I will never forget this game. I was on the field. Helping KJRH as an intern. You can see me in my green parka just yards away from Jackson as he made the game-winning catch! I was lucky enough to go to the Sooner locker room after the game. The main thing I remember is all of the Nebraska fans spitting at us as we walked to the locker Room.
OU’s Keith Jackson was a beast. He won that game for OU. Was it the yr before where he had the 88 yard TE reverse? He had a great pro career too with GB. Just an amazing athlete with size/speed/hands. I’ve been watching a ton of OU/Neb games on UA-cam lately. I’m 56, and I grew up in 70’s and 80’s so Thanksgiving Fri was always a big day back then for me. I really dislike Texas and OSU, but always respected Nebraska back then. Just a shame that things aren’t like that anymore for our two programs.I wish we’d just kept the Big8 and let the Southwest Conference fend for themselves. We could have added some other teams along the way. I think Nebraska, Okla, and a KState or Colo or Mizz every now and then would’ve made for a plenty tough league. Even OSU was formidable. I wish Texas would’ve went independent back then.
He made tons of mistakes. Look at bthat 1st drive,..he called Nebraska, ' Oklahoma ' twice Late in the 4th he daid Neb. was up by 17-7 when it actually 17-10.
I was a baseball-basketball kid. Never played organized football, so I can't say from experience, but judging by these older games, they seem to block, hit, and tackle a lot harder than they do now.
Only time they wore all red (the recent Oregon-inspired zillion uni combinations doesn't count). Rumor was around here the seniors pushed for it, and voted on it, to wear all red
I was at this game. Nebraska had this game won! Up by 7 very late in the game. Sooners had 4th and a Mile….somehow came back To win a squeaker 20-17 with last second kick. It was so quiet at memorial stadium you could hear a mouse 🐭 pee on cotton!
Okla lost to a stacked miami team in the Orange bowl, but Bosworth had 22 tackles that game.Played like a warrior. Irvin, Highsmith, Stubbs, Jerome brown, Blades, Testeverdes, Miamiwas like a pro team.
2:12:28 in the week leading up to the game, a reporter asked Oklahoma quarterback Jemele Holieway if he was concerned about Nebraska All American offensive lineman Danny Noonan. Holieway said "Danny Noonan ain't going to touch me!" Watch What Happens immediately following this play. :-)
Poor Keith. How many times did he call games where Osborne or games where Bo Schembechler lost. Both I'm guessing were two of his favorites. Has to be an anchor record. Is it me, or does the game look like they are playing it during a partial eclipse.
@@rexburkman2536 having learned nothing from the infamous tie that he refused to settle for. To tie the game here was better than a loss. Stupid Osborne.
It always pissed me off that Switzer never had the guts to go for two after OU made it 17-16, and never had to explain it because Keith Jackson bailed him out.
Nebraska is just not a good fit in the Big 10. I guess when you change leagues like that you think another rivalry will spring up and replace Oklahoma. But it has not happened. The big 12 was a pretty good league, it is ashame that Texas messed it all up.
I hope Bosworth took advantage of his week in the South Florida sun, considering he was DQ'd for the Orange Bowl due to steroids. No doubt he wound up having fun anyway.
at 2:12:31 I always hated danny noonan for poking jamelle on the top of the helmet... that play has stuck with me for about 34-35 years... I was a pissed off high school junior at that point in time... but i gotta admit... noonan was a friggin BEAST!! hahahahaha
There's a story behind that play. In the papers leading up to the game, Holieway said that Noonan would not touch him all day. So after Noonan tackled him on that play, he "touched" Holieway on the head. Noonan certainly was a beast. He was first team All-America and should have won the Outland that year.
@@tonybunting1828 hahahahahaha. Thats friggin HILARIOUS. One kid being too cocky. And the other being a DICK when he shuts the kid up. LMFAOO!!! I love it. 🤣🤣🤣
He was head and shoulders the best player in 1-AA at that time and it would be over 2 decades that Holy Cross would play arch rival Boston College albeit in Chestnut Hill as the 1986 game was the final game to date in their rivalry to be played in Worcester. Also, the head coach of Holy Cross in 1986 was future Maryland head coach Mark Duffner
Poor Osborne. 3 opportunities very late in a close game and Osborne blew all 3. 1) Stop OU from tying the game, 2) Hold on to the ball for a Neb 1st down, 3) Prevent OU from getting within FG range for the game winner. Sheesh.
As if 30 IQ boy rob **d 88i 88c k sucker johnson could have called a better game, what a 30 IQ moron you are. OU was the better team, and a few bad plays by Husker players cost them, moron.
Yeah, change the uniforms, that's the ticket. Nebraska settled way to long (22 years) with Osborne before he got a NC. 5-12 against Switzer, 12-13 in bowls.
What a hater lol. How did Switzer do against top 5 comp? If you're constantly playing top 5 team's your record would be that? Lol. Aside that your Boy cheater Switzer admitted he was glad not to have faced Osborne in the 90s
The change in uniforms did help the ass kickings Nebraska gave blow U in the 90s. Lol. So bad they took Nebraska off their schedule. Hey not Osborne's fault your boy was a cheater and got caught and had to resign. Lol if he didn't cheat hey they could have played in the 90s?
@@ralfigs Are you silly enough to compare OK teams to Neb teams during the 90s. From 89 to 98, OU had 3 coaches, 1 lasting 1 season. Do you think any of those coaches lost their job just bec of a loss to Neb. No, they lost their jobs bec OU stinked. Osborn beat bad teams, but you knew that didn't you.

My first true road game...great Sooner memories!
I was three months old. I remembered the game in daddy's lap
Nebraska just couldn't beat Oklahoma but Oklahoma stood no chance against the mid 80's Miami Hurricanes.
Oklahoma couldn't beat Miami, Miami couldn't beat Penn State, Penn State couldn't beat Oklahoma.
@cbriggs9 there's a thinker lol it's all about matching up against your opponent and also Vinny not throwing 5 picks lol
Sledge Hammer! Such an underrated 80’s show. Trust me....I know what one doing. Lol
I still watch that show every now and then. Cracks me up! Of course he is the exact opposite of Hunter lol. He didn't carry no child's toy lol.

Keith Jackson R.I.P
THE MAN WAS COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Keith Jackson a.k.a. MR. COLLEGE FOOTBALL!!
FYI, the other Keith Jackson is alive and well
3:49 LOL! "Tell Sherrill to mind his own business". Funny dig by Jackie.
Typical Husker loss in typical Husker fashion. Twenty-six years later we still can't close out tight games.
As a Nebraska fan, I can say OU didn't have any NFL caliber wide receivers in the 1980s, but they didn't need any, they had Keith Jackson
On that late fumble by Holieway his left knee was down before Smith knocked the ball out.
Sooner magic at its best
Nebraska had Oklahoma beat!! Stagnant offense by Nebraska in the 3rd and 4th quarter...
With 1:28 left, Neb runs out of bounds TWICE!!! and throws an incompletion - 3 plays runs 20 sec's off the clock... WHAT A CHOKE.
They ran out of bounds to stop the clock because they were trying to win the game with a field goal you IDIOT!
Oklahoma only needed a tie to win the Big 8. Nebraska had to score.
