I would have wanted one if they were turbocharged. However, that would have caused a conflict of interest between Toyota and Subaru. Subaru was afraid they would lose rally car sales if the GT86 was turbocharged.

350 or 370z all the way, in really good condition. One of the best engine sounds fitting one of the best looking cars with some of the most tasteful cosmetic modifications available. Really love them, and they barely even cost that much. EDIT: Thanks for letting me know the Integra still exists guess I know what I want now.
Most of the GTS series from R32 all the way up to R34 gets my vote because you still get the "Yo is that a skyline?" without spending a fortune, fairly reasonable as a daily, and still handles extremely well. It may not be overly phenomenal, but fun and relatively cheap alternative to the GTRs
THEPAULFOOT best bang for your buck is 350z. Try to get an 07-08. But they still go for like 8-12k. All years are great. The 06’s do consume a lot of oil but they sound the best and rev high.
BOOSTEG id stick with the DC2. Build the motor, stage 3 clutch, and decent turbo kit. Easily handle 400whp and still remain practical with the hatch and back seats.

In addition, if you wanted a 300ZXTT but couldn't find a clean one in the USA, don't worry. It looks like there are auctions in Japan selling the Z32 Fairlady TT and many of them are clean and with low miles. Most of them are over 25 years old. If you are willing to wait, the 1997 to 1999 Z32 Fairlady TT is worth buying. They had several improvements over the ones sold in the USA.
3000gt is pretty damn cool plus we have so many for sale up in the tristate area so come along and get one, they’re in decent/meh condition and dirt cheap.
02-07 WRXs, mrk3 Supras, Silvia’s, 180s, mr2s, 300zx, 350zs all great as well and more affordable in some areas. Although not all of them are as reliable
Talking about the dc2 type r.. You guys should do a SoYouWant on the Dc1-Dc4 as they are great beginner cars and the dc4 has a non vtec which leads to more things to talk about.
Where all my Silvias at? I think the s13 and s14 are some of the best jdm cars money can buy. They look good however you set one up, whether it be for a show or the track.
Personally, I'd go for a GT86, the 2012 model is my favorite. It's like the AE86 had a child and was the loving dad throughout its whole life and lead it through all the right life choices. It's a car that doesn't need a lot of power to be fun just like it's predecessor, I'd limit my own dream GT86 to around 200-300hp and use it as a suitable daily. It's a car you can go to work and the track in. Modifications can be light or heavy such as a simple front lip to a full body kit. It's like the perfect car.
@@poolearmor The Mitsubishi GTO is rare in the USA because anybody can buy a Mitsu 3000GT or Dodge Stealth. When a car can easily be bought in the USA, importing the same car doesn't always make sense. That in mind, I think some people will be importing a Z32 Fairlady TT if getting a good 300ZXTT is difficult.
I just bought a 2011 132k japanese made mazdaspeed 3 with sun damage....i paid 4 grand it was a one owner 50 year old guy....now that's a Japanese car I can get behind with my 10k budget and be very happy about where I'm sitting.

Toyota Caldina GT-T, Celica GT-FOUR or SW20 MR2, THE 3S-GTE seems to be a platform that's always overshadowed by its big brothers 1JZ and 2JZ but all the cars seems to handle like a dream, are turbocharged and all around fun to drive plus you get the benefit of decent reliability when you start comparing it to RB and SR motors which seem to break down a lot even stock
I think if I had the chance to import an Evo, I would get something earlier than the 8. The Evo 6.5 TME might be what I would want. Those were very rare and expensive, so I wouldn't plan on it. Not that it matters... I intend to buy a US version Evo X with 5 speed manual. I might end up with the money to buy that one. I would add some items from the "X Final Edition" but otherwise leave it alone. I wonder how many people applied the JGTC Calsonic livery to their GT-R. That is what I think I would absolutely love.
@@jalderink The final edition did have some plaques and logos in various places, and I think the springs were different. If what I bought already had OEM bilstein struts, I would leave them alone. If they wore out, I have heard that it is $100 parts and labor to have Bilstein rebuild. If my car did not have OEM Bilstein struts, I'd buy some from a junkyard cheap, then pay the $100 parts and labor to Bilstein for rebuilding. I think the Final Edition and X MR had 2 piece rotors, but I don't consider that change worthwhile. I would actually have an advantage over the Final Edition. In 2015, Recaro seats were no longer an option because they couldn't pass new crash tests. As a result, I would keep my pre-2015 Recaros, or see what it takes to reupolster Evo X OEM Recaros that have many miles on them This is the joy of having a car that is mass produced enough to make parts easy to get, yet rare enough to be special. I sometimes make comparisons to the Nissan 300ZXTT.
How about 2008 or 2009 Lexus ISF? Higher mileage 80k etc ISF are in 20k range. Stock 416hp/371tq, they now have Tunes available S/C, C/F parts, suspension, bolt parts, rims etc. Fisrt sport based car with 8speed paddle shift auto that shift in 0.1 sec. First with both direct and port injection 10 yrs before BMW. The engine was built with Yamaha F1 team. Yamaha design, tuned and made heads for ISF. My ISF with just FBO RR Racing, Tuned with Tuned intake E30 blend makes 506@crank 429.6whp. With RRRACING stage 3 S/C 780HP. They were built only in Japan, with Lexus quality control. Lexus CAT scan all there motors looking for any imperfection now that is pursuit of perfection. They had total production run of 11k world wide with only 5100 being imported to USA out of over 263 million cars on road in US. And out of that 5100 shipped roughly just over 4000 still on road today. They are holding their value quite well. Especially when compared to their competition E90/92/93 M3 and W204 C63 AMG. Just to give you an example last year supercharged ISF ran the Mojave mile at 191.1 miles per hour from standing start.
as far as the miata it may be fun if you are under 5'10 175lb but if you are over that not so much when you have to drive it with the door open just so that you can operate the clutch pedal
The 300ZXTT went on sale when I was 5 and I instantly wanted one. I think there were 2 reasons: 1. I loved the name Nissan because I loved mom's 1985 Nissan Maxima 2. Turbo power sounded magical back then, so imagine how much more magical twin turbo sounded.

Talking about the dc2 type r.. You guys should do a SoYouWant on the Dc1-Dc4 as they are great beginner cars and the dc4 has a non vtec which leads to more things to talk about.

Personally, I'd go for a GT86, the 2012 model is my favorite. It's like the AE86 had a child and was the loving dad throughout its whole life and lead it through all the right life choices. It's a car that doesn't need a lot of power to be fun just like it's predecessor, I'd limit my own dream GT86 to around 200-300hp and use it as a suitable daily. It's a car you can go to work and the track in. Modifications can be light or heavy such as a simple front lip to a full body kit. It's like the perfect car.

@@poolearmor The Mitsubishi GTO is rare in the USA because anybody can buy a Mitsu 3000GT or Dodge Stealth. When a car can easily be bought in the USA, importing the same car doesn't always make sense.
That in mind, I think some people will be importing a Z32 Fairlady TT if getting a good 300ZXTT is difficult.

I just bought a 2011 132k japanese made mazdaspeed 3 with sun damage....i paid 4 grand it was a one owner 50 year old guy....now that's a Japanese car I can get behind with my 10k budget and be very happy about where I'm sitting.

Toyota Caldina GT-T, Celica GT-FOUR or SW20 MR2, THE 3S-GTE seems to be a platform that's always overshadowed by its big brothers 1JZ and 2JZ but all the cars seems to handle like a dream, are turbocharged and all around fun to drive plus you get the benefit of decent reliability when you start comparing it to RB and SR motors which seem to break down a lot even stock

I think if I had the chance to import an Evo, I would get something earlier than the 8. The Evo 6.5 TME might be what I would want. Those were very rare and expensive, so I wouldn't plan on it.
Not that it matters... I intend to buy a US version Evo X with 5 speed manual. I might end up with the money to buy that one. I would add some items from the "X Final Edition" but otherwise leave it alone.

@@jalderink The final edition did have some plaques and logos in various places, and I think the springs were different. If what I bought already had OEM bilstein struts, I would leave them alone. If they wore out, I have heard that it is $100 parts and labor to have Bilstein rebuild. If my car did not have OEM Bilstein struts, I'd buy some from a junkyard cheap, then pay the $100 parts and labor to Bilstein for rebuilding. I think the Final Edition and X MR had 2 piece rotors, but I don't consider that change worthwhile.
I would actually have an advantage over the Final Edition. In 2015, Recaro seats were no longer an option because they couldn't pass new crash tests. As a result, I would keep my pre-2015 Recaros, or see what it takes to reupolster Evo X OEM Recaros that have many miles on them

How about 2008 or 2009 Lexus ISF? Higher mileage 80k etc ISF are in 20k range. Stock 416hp/371tq, they now have Tunes available S/C, C/F parts, suspension, bolt parts, rims etc. Fisrt sport based car with 8speed paddle shift auto that shift in 0.1 sec. First with both direct and port injection 10 yrs before BMW. The engine was built with Yamaha F1 team. Yamaha design, tuned and made heads for ISF. My ISF with just FBO RR Racing, Tuned with Tuned intake E30 blend makes 506@crank 429.6whp. With RRRACING stage 3 S/C 780HP. They were built only in Japan, with Lexus quality control. Lexus CAT scan all there motors looking for any imperfection now that is pursuit of perfection. They had total production run of 11k world wide with only 5100 being imported to USA out of over 263 million cars on road in US. And out of that 5100 shipped roughly just over 4000 still on road today. They are holding their value quite well. Especially when compared to their competition E90/92/93 M3 and W204 C63 AMG. Just to give you an example last year supercharged ISF ran the Mojave mile at 191.1 miles per hour from standing start.

The 300ZXTT went on sale when I was 5 and I instantly wanted one. I think there were 2 reasons:
1. I loved the name Nissan because I loved mom's 1985 Nissan Maxima
2. Turbo power sounded magical back then, so imagine how much more magical twin turbo sounded.
