I’m all pumped up after watching this and ready to go tomorrow on my 701. Never knew the heritage of the bike. I’m 65 and still have n a blast. Thanks KTM
Really, I think this was mostly human and not technology, the KTM team were starting to age out, and had various setbacks in terms of health and focus starting to drop off as key riders start to look to the future. Honda had a more dedicated / hungry team.
That's easy, Honda chucked way more money at their bikes, like 6 figure numbers that make the KTM RFR a joke in terms of budget (the Honda 450 rally is a priceless work of art), fixed all their electrical problems and gave the boot to their team management and hired rally people to run the team because their team culture sucked thus letting their awesome riders ride and by the same fact stopped cheating with illegal fuel stops, navigational notes, etc.

What I've gathered of KTM over the years ALL from just UA-cam basically... Is that they go that little bit further than the rest in most cases, and the bikes are not always but in most cases a bit more focused and roudy than the competition. It'll be interesting to see if the Kove has more success in the future amongst malle moto. Parts are the issue as you said with the Yamaha but the service intervals might be a bit better than a highly strung out KTM.
I mean, if parts won't be the issue, and if their cost remains so much lower, for Malle Moto riders it could be a great option, since especially there budgets matter. A lot.
