      Really, I think this was mostly human and not technology, the KTM team were starting to age out, and had various setbacks in terms of health and focus starting to drop off as key riders start to look to the future. Honda had a more dedicated / hungry team.

      How about how the XR650R dominated the Baja?

    • @ibuti01
      @ibuti01 2 місяці тому

      That's easy, Honda chucked way more money at their bikes, like 6 figure numbers that make the KTM RFR a joke in terms of budget (the Honda 450 rally is a priceless work of art), fixed all their electrical problems and gave the boot to their team management and hired rally people to run the team because their team culture sucked thus letting their awesome riders ride and by the same fact stopped cheating with illegal fuel stops, navigational notes, etc.

      @@anthonybaiocchi3028 the 600, xrr, 450r... but the bastards keep discontinuing absolute beasts like the xrr. i will have one... but i guess it's gonna be one worn down to the frame and i get to rebuild it first... maybe just get a 400, always wanted to see what the engine from my 400ex would do in it's original 2 wheeled home anyway. supposedly the one used in guardians of the galaxy 3 was for sale here locally, and for a decent price of just a regular 400... really wish i coulda got that one, even if it wasn't the bike but they had some paperwork from the rental or something.

      @@juanl.burlew5370 yes, and they both retired when TP turned up and placed third on his first attempt.
      As a water boy.
      They were great of course, but TP changed the equation and the era of fast boys who have the win it or bin it mindset began.
      A new generation is here, and no doubt that will change at some stage, it always does.
      I’m just glad that Toby is getting into cars now and have little doubt that he will also do well if he can get the right drive.
      Bring on January 😎

    Yamaha rally team was created by Yamaha France only, no support from Japan...so yeah a bit behind that's why AVB was happy to go to Honda.
    The new chassis on the 450 rally was made to be more nimble for the new Dakar more technical tracks. Most pro riders complained about it.
    Finally it seems like KTM is pulling the plug for now at least. Except Dakar KTM did not participate in the rally championship in 2024 & they have 3 riders left across the board with their 3 brands...not reassuring

      Yup Sonauto Yamaha is the official French Yamaha factory team. Jackie Vimond, first French World Motocross Champion literally changed the time and attitude of French off road racing. They medium-sized a training program for young up and commoners and that has bred many French champions afterwards.

      Yeah, I touched a bit on the French Yamaha team in my 4 cylinder dakar bike video, it's definitely tougher when you don't have quite the same factory support as... the factory brands

    • @droptuned83
      @droptuned83 20 днів тому

      They only dominated because the other factories couldn't be bothered any longer to build bikes for these race's. BMW , Yamaha and Honda had all had periods of winning these events back when they were seriously difficult competition.

    The best pictured, most important, well researched video on this planet about this topic.
    May I add some thoughts about it?
    1.) KTMs consecutive 18 wins in a, what we call in Austria, "Kings-Discipline" of motorsport is still unbeaten world record (only Toni Bou can hit it in 1-2 years, if he stays with Honda/Montesa!)
    2.) KTMs 690 one zylinder is the best of it´s kind. I wrote a letter every year, why customers coudn´t buy the Dakar winners bike. KTM didn´t answere. But maybe you are inspired of making a video about this fabulous engine and its success in so many perspectives.
    Untill than: keep on riding, you are spectacular!

    What I've gathered of KTM over the years ALL from just UA-cam basically... Is that they go that little bit further than the rest in most cases, and the bikes are not always but in most cases a bit more focused and roudy than the competition. I'm obsessed with the T700 my self for some reason but I cant afford any of them or have the physical capability to ride them in any meaningful way anyway so what does it matter!
    Awesome content, keep it up! Would love a video on the Japanese bikes around this too since you asked! ;) How does the Yamaha's fare these days? xD
    Sounds like I'm some big Yamaha fan, I'm not, just like the T700, not even sure why xD

    • @v.onthemove
      @v.onthemove Місяць тому

      @@laius6047 i meant, some wonder if manufacturers really need to spend R&D on racing tech. Since they are so good, that any benefits gained would be at the upper tip of performance tha would never be needed in the real world. In fact most tech now comes in the form of controls to restrict the bike as they are way more powerful than most can handle.
      So what i know basically is, do company really see a benefit from racing...financially i mean.

    I follow Dakar since the first edition, my friend was Chris Blais mechanic, so I think I can make a comment, KTM is awesome and kept investing in the rally while the Japanese lost interest, so this domination came a little bit easier since there was nobody besides Yamaha France (not factory) with David Fretigne ( not Casteau) with the 450 with front wheel drive in 2004 or so, In my opinion the most dominant bike was the Honda NXR that started in 1986 a revolution.

    All the haters here, but I love mine, even when I have to fix it, I still love what it does and how it feels. No other bike feels like it.
