How much midrange power can we add by tuning in VVT? In this episode we take the car to PE to find out!
Special Thanks to David from Performance Electronics for tuning the car!

I just binged watched this series and I love it! Owning a VW 2.5 myself, this gives me hope :)
Awesome! Stay tuned for more!
Man that thing sounds great out off the box. WOW
Thanks!
Hey guys, stoked on the progress and that you guys stuck with this platform and have such a following now! I love what you guys are doing, keep it up! I haven't kept up with videos for a bit but here I am! Best of luck guys, I can hear a 5 cylinder in a future 944 of mine! Cheers
Thanks dude, appreciate it!
This is Epic Mike. Thank you for all the extra information and explaining what is going on. Great video and they sound is what powers Moons
Thanks dude!
@@BoostBrothersGarage You are very welcome. I think I am going to do the 07K first before the 2.7TT lol Depends on when I get another chassis.
Both would be awesome, one would just be easier haha. I know you love a good challenge though!
@@BoostBrothersGarage Yes sir! lol. considering I have everything on shelf for the 2.7TT. I have been checking on 07K engines. They are reasonably priced. Might go with a NA version.
A built NA safari 944 would be AMAZING
Bring this thing to a Cars and Coffee! I’m local and would love to see it - and to let it meet my AAN swapped Audi 90
Absolutely! Will be on the street in the next few weeks!
Every update builds anticipation. Thing thing will be scoooting indeed
Super excited!
Brother, I cannot wait to see this fully tuned. So excited!
Me too!
Pretty awesome Mike... I may have to buy the same turbo. It's working out pretty well so far.
Would like some info if you don't mind.
The man with husky eyes!!!
Hahahaha
Car looks so clean, good work guys
Thanks!
Great job, I hope it hold together
Man you guys are killing me. I wanted to keep my 84 944 with the stock na but this 07k sounds so good. Dam you. 😁
Hahaha, give in to the temptation!
@@BoostBrothersGarage haha. Not this time. Maybe in the coming years. Does your full swap kit come in a turbo setup? And I assume that I have to source the motor?
You would have to source the motor. We have bought multiple on eBay for $300 or less, shipped. The full swap kit does not come with a turbo as we wanted to let people spec their own setups.
Epic content! I am loving it!
Thanks!
Thanks for another video. Would be interesting to get a graph of some sorts that shows where what increment of VVT should be used. Torque is now roughly comparable to my 3 cylinder TDI which does 360 Nm much lower than 4000 rpm. I expect big gains with the 07K, still....!!
It was basically 10deg from 1500 to 4250, 15 degrees from 4250 to 5000 and either 10 or 5 from 5000 to 6000. That’s what I’m remembering off the top of my head.
@@BoostBrothersGarage I am no expert but it appears in Japanese engines VVT cuts in way later... Is that correct and why the difference here?
Not sure too be honest with you, we just did what the engine told us it liked best!
I've got to ask - what's the deal with the taillights during the dyno pull? Loose connection, or a larger electrical issue?
I love that rear wing!! Where did you get it?
Sweet Baby Jesus!!!
What pressure were you running this time? I'm in the final stages of my turbo 07k build.
16 or so if I remember?
@@BoostBrothersGarage that's impressive on stock internals. I'm gonna be a wuss and run 8-10. (The lie I tell myself)
Torque curve should flatten out.
this is unbelievably cool. i would buy a 944 and 07k swap it if i had the money.
Start saving, it's worth it!
I started saving some time ago, gonna import rust free 944 with broken engine lol
Late to the party but just got an '85 944. This is very tempting but so is an LS swap
Is there any guesstimate to the cost to this swap?? I want to start saving!
Depends on a lot of things, but a NA swap will cost you around 7k on the low end. Turbo would be closer to 10k. This build is probably 15k but it’s also got a 2k dollar turbo lol.
Can you say someting about lci, lce and LSA? If the non vvt kamtiming was, lets say 114/116 for 115 LSA, no wonder it improved if WWT changed it to 105/109 for LSA 107.
Are you gonna runthe DG fuel fitting on this car?
Not on this one, but it is an awesome piece we highly recommend!
How much spark timing are you pulling to get that torque?
I don’t remember off the top of my head, but we are still relatively conservative as timing will be one of the last things to tune in. I think midrange was single digits and redline was 16?
I b drooling.
30HP and better fuel efficiency too? I need this to happen to my 83 NA. 😂
Go back and check out our NA 07K swap. We did that in our track car and it was awesome! 944 turbo power from an NA 5 cylinder. Throw cams at it and make 220 wheel or so and spin it to 8500 rpm, all through the NA transaxle!
David is one of those guys who five years from now I swing by his house for a BBQ and say "wow, this is nice. what does he do?"
Hahahaha, so true
An M133 AMG 2.0 T would be great in one of these cars
I don't have a clue, but isn't it normal to get your horses out of an engine just above 4000 and up ?
Just waiting for my NA engine to blow so I can convince my wife on 07K build.
Go drive it around on the limiter for a while lol
hey guys what ecu are you using to run the 5 cylinder?
Performance Electronics PE3-8400
www.boostbrothersgarage.com/products/07k-standalone-ecu-swap-harness-package
i own a golf with an o7k, do you know where i can get a turbo exhaust manifold for it? its n/a now and i want to add boost.
Here you go! We’ve got two in stock. www.boostbrothersgarage.com/product-page/spa-07k-turbo-manifold
@@BoostBrothersGarage i was looking at one of these, they are good quality and make decent power?
@@miguelsanchez6465 it's the same manifold that the car he's tuning in the video has on it.
Yep!
Siiiiiiiick
what intake manifold is that?
It’s one we manufacture and sell
what rims are you running ?
They are Forgeline RS
Mpg????
all the power is in the 5-6000
The VVT wasn’t tuned right in this video. It’s typically 4500 to 7000, but as we increase power we are running out of air and need bigger cams.
I'ma guess it added 25hp
Pretty solid guess!
Wow! That was some serious boost in torque for just messing with timing, loving this build guys!
Thanks dude!
