I got offered a job in the US and they were confused and a little angry when I refused stating that they weren't offering enough money. It was 10k more than I'm earning now and more than I'd earn doing my job anywhere in my country. I imagine from their perspective it was a really good offer. But from my perspective, I'd have given up so many rights and benefits in the US and I'd have to incur so many additional living costs from healthcare to housing associations, with the additional stress of moving to a different country away from my family and friends. 10k was not nearly enough money to have me sacrifice so much. From my perspective the US is the kind of place you go when you're already rich and not a good place for those trying to become rich and a terrible place if you're low-income. It's the land of the free! Everyone's free to screw you over. You've got to have enough power (cash) to protect yourself or you're just going to keep on getting screwed unless you're one of the lucky ones. The only reason I say it's the place for people that are already rich is because money buys things in the US that can't be bought in most European countries. Europe however is more of a mixed balance between capitalism and socialism. It gives the people a certain degree of power by giving them rights and providing for their human rights. It gives people the freedom to push people over, but it also has cushions for when people fall. It's a pretty good place for people wanting to live comfortable lives and gives people room to take risks. It's a good place for everyone to live.

It gets taken from our pay before we even receive our pay so you don't miss it. It also make healthcare more efficient, compared to the US. The UK health system costs 10 time less to run, per person! That is insane! Because no one is skimming a profit from healthcare.

I went to went to Hungary, Spain, Austria, France, Belgiun to MCD and there they did not have refills :) and my country is the same, I traveled to other places in Europ but I did not go to fastfood so I don't know, in other restaurants in Italy and Greece there were no refills but you got the water for free.

There’s lots of guns in Europe if you actually need them. The EU has a combined 1.5 million active service personnel. Cops in most countries are armed. People hunt all over Europe. What we don’t have is tubby kids in body armour walking around with an AR-15 like he’s John Rambo because he can’t get a girlfriend.

my sister once was in the US for about a year and at one point she had to visit a dentist... it was cheaper for her to fly back to Austria vistit the dentist and fly to the US again. just insane
One time I joined a live stream by these two Americans on a small youtube channel. Their content is mostly about travel so they have many non-American viewers, including me. One of them mentioned about owning a rifle and we asked him to take it out on stream, out of curiosity. He took it out and I said "this is the first time I've seen someone from non-security department holding a gun/rifle, aside from the movies" and many other viewers agreed with me. The two guys looked at each other and quietly said "really..?" 🙃 I'm Asian and here, even a police officer is not allowed to hold a gun when out of duty, and you need to be at a certain rank before you can even bring one around. It's not like the crime rate here is any lower, but it is mostly petty thefts like pickpockets or small robberies that don't involve guns.
The toy guns are probably just to showcase the type of firearms mentioned, as it is almost impossible to get guns like these in Europe. Thats also the reason these guys and most of Europeans couldnt tell what an AR15 or something else is.
You would be surprised at some of the guns allowed in the UK. You can have a semi-automatic rifle, much like the AR15, but only in .22 calibre. The difference is the strict regulations that control who can own a gun.
It is not even near impossible. In fact it is easy to get a gun in Europe. Mostly it is just time consuming to get your first weapon cause you need to go through a lot of paperwork. Also a much smaller ammount of people are interested in guns than in the US so mostly hunters have guns in Europe and less people buy it for just shooting at a range or for self defense. Also you can get an ar15 style rifle anywhere in europe. The limitations are usually for magazine sizes.
@@matejagicza745 . The other thing in the UK, is that if you get a firearms certificate to own a gun, you do have to show you use it. You can't join a gun club, get your gun, but never go there to shoot.
I personally find the second amendment confusing because it was written in 1791, we had muskets and flintlocks back then which took several seconds (sometimes minutes) to reload and fire a single shot, and to my knowledge it hasn't been updated since. It made sense back then it doesn't anymore.
I agree. America should get rid of all modern guns and return to the weapons of the time, as you said, muskets and flintlocks then the second amendment wouldn't be violated and a lot more people would be alive.
And you can read it differently. You can also read that there has to be militia with weapons, not everybody having weapons for personal use. The swiss have that. People who were in the army may have official military weapons at home for the event of an attack. But their killing numbers are still much lower than in the US.

@@reinhard8053 Funny you should say that because I live in Switzerland, and while we can have our weapon(s) at home, all of the ammunition stays with the army (in some cases you can keep it but there are regulations on how and where). Its also worth noting that it is also possible for the average person to own a gun (after a difficult process) however you also have to have a permit to shoot. (To clarify you can own a gun but you're not allowed to shoot it without a specific permit)

@@rebeccat94 I think a good doctor can distinguish between someone having an accident and trying to use the system for free. And if that is the case, the person has to pay the full amount. And possibly a penalty for using the service unnecessarily. In Germany it is also forbidden to use the emergency call if it is not necessary. For example, young people who call the fire brigade to annoy the neighbors. Such an assignment is quite expensive and in the worst case the parents have to pay for it. So I think it would work pretty well with certain rules.

There were cases in the Alps, where tired hikers called the mountain rescue to fetch them as they were too tired to walk back to the trailhead...I recall the amount of those cases caused Italy (or France) to change their regulations on the matter. It is still free though, if you're in a real emergency and need medical treatment.

well, the reason why they don't show a real AR15 is because "we" outside of the US do not have any. And most of all: we do not need one! @ refill: one can assume that the more refill is possible the cheaper it has to be and therefore the lesser is the quality of the beverage. someone has to pay for it, so it might be the consumers with their health.
No free refills in Germany, but we even had something "better": Flatrate-Drinking-Partys! You pay like 12€ or 15€ and get unlimited (mostly alcoholic) drinks at a party/disco/event! They got forbidden a few years ago in the most Bundesländer, but as far as I know, they are still existing and legal in some Bundesländer ... like Bavaria, for example.

It's not that you have the right to keep it, that's ok no problem. But these guns are part of your life, not special but totally normal daily things. When an US cop stops you in the traffic, and if you are suspicious then his hand is on his side-gun and your hand is on the wheel you must not get out of the car. He wants to see your hand. This is awful. And it's absurd in EU, you do whatever you want, you can get out of the car why not, no one will sh*t in his pants. At some KFC & some Subway restaurants in Germany you do get free refills. But it's definitely not the standard. And I never have seen a McDonalds one with free refills. :D
There's a burger chain called "Burgerista" where you get free refills. Their burgers are also very good. I think Americans need free refills more than Europeans do, because they fill up their cups with 80% ice cubes and there's less room for the actual drinks.
Concerning the toy guns, in most european countries it would be almost impossible to get a real gun of that caliber just for the sake of a UA-cam video.
It was hard in UK too. People didn't want to give up their guns...but the Government said NO GUNS - not unless they are tightly regulated and controlled! We did it, and I'm so proud that we did.
The difference is that, for example, the UK does not have a written constitution, so laws can adapt to changing times when it seems necessary. With the last changes, a study was done first, but unfortunately Tony Blair in his eagerness to grab votes, ignored the result of the study and banned even single shot .22 pistols, thus wiping out a lot of competition shooting.

Many also have a very strange idea of the purpose of the Amendment and see it as the people's protection against a tyrannical government, and so would be automatically against it. It doesn't say "the right of a well regulated militia...", does it? The need for a militia is the justification, yes, but nothing more. The right to keep and bear arms is granted unconditionally. Should it be changed on the grounds that the justification doesn't apply anymore? Possibly. But it hasn't been changed yet, so it is still applicable law.
I don’t know about Europe in general, but in France there is no such thing as free refills in McDonalds 😅 I travelled to Belgium Germany NL Spain and don’t remember seeing them. Then again I moved to Canada in 2012 so maybe it has changed since then but I don’t think so

free refills aren't a thing in europe. you want another drink, you pay for it, the drink fountains tend to be behind the counter, while in america, i've seen videos where the drink fountain is right next to the counter for the customers to use, they're just given a cup to fill it with the drink they paid

Literally my history teacher was going to be a father last October and his wife gave birth and they went to the hospital in the morning because he left school and the students got a substitute teacher he came back Monday and he left a Friday because there is no maternal or parental leave for teachers in public schools by the way his wife is a kindergarten teacher at an elementary school(public) and he teaches AP,honors, and regular classes at a public high school the audacity the education system has for their educators 😢and he told us that his wife also went back to teaching that same Monday 😔

@9:00 Lolz, no the USA constatution is based on the Netherlands constitution. So it is banned in the original text (like it still is in the Netherlands). It is just the amendments that needs to change. Basically they just need to keep the original Netherlands Constitution like the USA started out with (like with the Decleration of independance, they didn't change that much from the original Netherlands text). And then they would have a much more peacefull and healthy country :D edit: It's also why the United states gets their United states from, it was originally from the united states of the netherlands :)
9:10 I have to disagree with you there. It’s like saying fundemalist islamists just act like it’s written in their religious laws. That is not true though. It’s just the interpretation that validates the outcomes. You can and I bet you know that there are a lot of experts actually saying that the 2nd amendment was clearly related to the situation back then when the US Army hadn’t secured and established their presence in all parts of the US territories back when the constituation was drafted and that therefore a well regulated militia was necessary. Remember it says „being necessary to the security of a free State“. That security is now guaranteed by police. The well regulated militia isn’t necessary anymore. And btw a well regulated militia also implies a) strict regulation, b) some kind of organized militia and c) regular checks of a) and b) and we all know that neither a) nor b) are the case.
2nd amendment is prefaced by a phrase saying something like (this is from memory and may be slightly wrong) "since a strong militia is necessary to secure the independence of the nation" I think an argument can be made that this is no longer the case and that therefore the corollary - "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed" no longer holds. Not on the US supreme court though so don't at me.
I don`t know of any fast food outlet in Europe where you can refill your drinks for free. I find it very unfortunate. But the soft drinks contain significantly more sugar in America than in Europe i had read.☺💚
Hello (again). Here in the Czech Republic, a parent can stay at home with a child for up to 4 years and the employer cannot fire her. At that time, the state pays for all her insurance. It is the exact amount that the mother will receive on maternity leave. But the mother can decide for herself if she wants to receive a larger monthly amount and be at home for, for example, only a year. The most common is 3 years.

The thing that always baffled me about how Americans say "it's in the constitution. It's my right to to bear arms, you can't change that". Is that the part of the constitution that mentions that is an amendment... Meaning it was added later. So, the constitution can in fact be changed/amended.

It's maybe a really european thing to say but "It's the second amendment" is such a bonkers way to justify the whole gun rights thing. When these "rules" were made you had to still fight the British for your land and it took a good while to reload an archaic gun, you didn't know was even gonna hit the target. maternity leave (starts 6-8 weeks before giving birth, in total it´s 6 months) and parental leave... in Czech Republic for each child we get certain amount of money, the payment we can spred up to 3 years, sometimes even 4! it totally depends on the mother (or father), how long they want to stay home with children. If you have more kids, you get paid leave over many many years!
To be honest, you usually have no choice other than stay at home because the daycare either doesn't exist or is expensive and there is a cult of staying with kid at home as long as possible and working moms using daycare or nany are usually viewed as bad parents. (I don't agree).
My German aunt has 3 daughters, her maternity leave was 2 years, and her daughters are all 2 years apart each, she had 6 years of maternity leave!! (not continuously ofc, but still almost). This was a long time ago, like 30 years or smth so it might not be the same nowadays, but I'm very happy she got to raise her daughters while keeping her job.

About maternity leave. I'm from Croatia and we get 1 year off. For the first 6 months (actually, it's a bit more, because you start the maternity leave a couple of weeks before your due date) you get 100% of your paycheck and for the next 6 months you get a lower amount, it's a fixed rate, but those 6 months each one of the parents can use, and also they don't have to use them straight away but can opt to use them later (although almost all use them straight away), and mums, in general, get back to work when their kid celebrates 1st birthday.
Lithuania: * parents have a decision to make about their parental leave (we try not to call it vacation): either a full year with 100% of their income (average of the last 8 months) or 2 years with 72% of their income. The other parents gets a mandatory 1 month leave. The thing is that all Europeans are used to, paying higher taxes. BUT, those taxes comes back to you, in form of cheaper schools, hospitals, and other things. And not to mention, ambulances are FREE.

A thing that i cant wrap head around is the heating system in many US-houses. IIRC most houses have a central heating that regulates the temperature in the whole house. I dont know if specific rooms can be heated or all at once. I assume the latter. Why does the whole house have to be heated? If i am mostly in a rotation between kitchen/bathroom/(livingroom or mancave or whatever) i dont see any need to heat all guestrooms, storages or floors and whatnot. Where i live every room has a heater and every heater can be 'activated' if needed, so unused rooms where i dont stay for a while, wont be heated and i save fuel and money. Not all fat people want to eat or drink. Since my car accident, I have become fat. I can't walk and I don't like food. We eat as healthy as we can and I eat 1 meal per day most days and it is only a very small amount but due to my health I can't loss the weight. I wish I could and I have been working at it for years now. So not all fat people are fat due to over eating or eating the wrong foods some are fat due to health problems.

I am from Spain and if they put a real big gun near me I would freak out. They are so scary and bad. Only military service and police should have those. In Belgium university entrance cost about 931 Euros and when you have a low income you can get scholarship. The average uni education lasts for about 4 years so that makes 3724 euros for you whole education on entrance fee alone, with books, computers and other stuff it should be about 5000-6000 euros for your education (if you study at home. Yes, food and fitness wise, everything is a spiralling circle. When you start fitness training, it's tough to start with, but then becomes gradually easier. An obese person gradually wants more and more as the body expands. I think it's all based on the science that everything in the universe is a spiralling circle. There are no straight lines. Unfortunately, many 'beginners' at the gym give up too quickly and don't give themselves a chance to discover it will get easier.
Damn, with the maternity leave, in my country, you can stay home with the kid for about three years, until they can go to kindergarten. You don't have to, but it's honestly more profitable, because paying for day nursery or something. You get less than your paycheck, but it's alright, it's more than 50% and you can chose how to receive the money, it's like a certain amount and you either get the same every month or more at the start and less later on and stuff.
Regarding free refills, in some countries you will have them but in most it's downright illegal for sweet drink like sodas, that's part of the fight against child obesity and diabetes
Not European, but Chilean, here in my city there's only one fast food place that lets you get one free refill on your drink per customer (and it's not a US American chain) and when living in Ecuador KFC had free refills, but other than that I haven't seen it.

I got offered a job in the US and they were confused and a little angry when I refused stating that they weren't offering enough money. It was 10k more than I'm earning now and more than I'd earn doing my job anywhere in my country. I imagine from their perspective it was a really good offer. But from my perspective, I'd have given up so many rights and benefits in the US and I'd have to incur so many additional living costs from healthcare to housing associations, with the additional stress of moving to a different country away from my family and friends. 10k was not nearly enough money to have me sacrifice so much.
From my perspective the US is the kind of place you go when you're already rich and not a good place for those trying to become rich and a terrible place if you're low-income. It's the land of the free! Everyone's free to screw you over. You've got to have enough power (cash) to protect yourself or you're just going to keep on getting screwed unless you're one of the lucky ones. The only reason I say it's the place for people that are already rich is because money buys things in the US that can't be bought in most European countries.
Europe however is more of a mixed balance between capitalism and socialism. It gives the people a certain degree of power by giving them rights and providing for their human rights. It gives people the freedom to push people over, but it also has cushions for when people fall. It's a pretty good place for people wanting to live comfortable lives and gives people room to take risks. It's a good place for everyone to live.

I went to went to Hungary, Spain, Austria, France, Belgiun to MCD and there they did not have refills :) and my country is the same, I traveled to other places in Europ but I did not go to fastfood so I don't know, in other restaurants in Italy and Greece there were no refills but you got the water for free.

One time I joined a live stream by these two Americans on a small youtube channel. Their content is mostly about travel so they have many non-American viewers, including me. One of them mentioned about owning a rifle and we asked him to take it out on stream, out of curiosity. He took it out and I said "this is the first time I've seen someone from non-security department holding a gun/rifle, aside from the movies" and many other viewers agreed with me. The two guys looked at each other and quietly said "really..?" 🙃
I'm Asian and here, even a police officer is not allowed to hold a gun when out of duty, and you need to be at a certain rank before you can even bring one around. It's not like the crime rate here is any lower, but it is mostly petty thefts like pickpockets or small robberies that don't involve guns.
The toy guns are probably just to showcase the type of firearms mentioned, as it is almost impossible to get guns like these in Europe. Thats also the reason these guys and most of Europeans couldnt tell what an AR15 or something else is.

You would be surprised at some of the guns allowed in the UK. You can have a semi-automatic rifle, much like the AR15, but only in .22 calibre.
The difference is the strict regulations that control who can own a gun.
It is not even near impossible. In fact it is easy to get a gun in Europe. Mostly it is just time consuming to get your first weapon cause you need to go through a lot of paperwork. Also a much smaller ammount of people are interested in guns than in the US so mostly hunters have guns in Europe and less people buy it for just shooting at a range or for self defense. Also you can get an ar15 style rifle anywhere in europe. The limitations are usually for magazine sizes.

I personally find the second amendment confusing because it was written in 1791, we had muskets and flintlocks back then which took several seconds (sometimes minutes) to reload and fire a single shot, and to my knowledge it hasn't been updated since.

I agree. America should get rid of all modern guns and return to the weapons of the time, as you said, muskets and flintlocks then the second amendment wouldn't be violated and a lot more people would be alive.
And you can read it differently. You can also read that there has to be militia with weapons, not everybody having weapons for personal use. The swiss have that. People who were in the army may have official military weapons at home for the event of an attack. But their killing numbers are still much lower than in the US.

@@reinhard8053 Funny you should say that because I live in Switzerland, and while we can have our weapon(s) at home, all of the ammunition stays with the army (in some cases you can keep it but there are regulations on how and where). Its also worth noting that it is also possible for the average person to own a gun (after a difficult process) however you also have to have a permit to shoot. (To clarify you can own a gun but you're not allowed to shoot it without a specific permit)
Oh yes. If im correctly, this type of gun is legal to own without permit in Europe(at least in Poland and probably Czechia)

If you didn't have to pay for the ambulance and the treatment in such cases, many people would already have faster & better care and maybe see and understand how free you suddenly feel without this fear of the costs .

@@rebeccat94 I think a good doctor can distinguish between someone having an accident and trying to use the system for free. And if that is the case, the person has to pay the full amount. And possibly a penalty for using the service unnecessarily.
In Germany it is also forbidden to use the emergency call if it is not necessary. For example, young people who call the fire brigade to annoy the neighbors. Such an assignment is quite expensive and in the worst case the parents have to pay for it.
So I think it would work pretty well with certain rules.

There were cases in the Alps, where tired hikers called the mountain rescue to fetch them as they were too tired to walk back to the trailhead...I recall the amount of those cases caused Italy (or France) to change their regulations on the matter. It is still free though, if you're in a real emergency and need medical treatment.

Usually you can get self-defence weapons, no problem, it's a procedure, a little longer than in US. I think the main difference is the cult of firearms, that is huge in US, and that's very bad thing. It's not that you have the right to keep it, that's ok no problem. But these guns are part of your life, not special but totally normal daily things. When an US cop stops you in the traffic, and if you are suspicious then his hand is on his side-gun and your hand is on the wheel you must not get out of the car. He wants to see your hand. This is awful. And it's absurd in EU, you do whatever you want, you can get out of the car why not, no one will sh*t in his pants. Although I understand the US law, the right to keep firearms, it represents the freedom, defending yourself from government (and robbers) is paramount, it's very nice idea indeed. At some KFC & some Subway restaurants in Germany you do get free refills. But it's definitely not the standard.

It was hard in UK too. People didn't want to give up their guns...but the Government said NO GUNS - not unless they are tightly regulated and controlled! We did it, and I'm so proud that we did.
The difference is that, for example, the UK does not have a written constitution, so laws can adapt to changing times when it seems necessary.
With the last changes, a study was done first, but unfortunately Tony Blair in his eagerness to grab votes, ignored the result of the study and banned even single shot .22 pistols, thus wiping out a lot of competition shooting.

It doesn't say "the right of a well regulated militia...", does it? The need for a militia is the justification, yes, but nothing more. The right to keep and bear arms is granted unconditionally.
Should it be changed on the grounds that the justification doesn't apply anymore? Possibly. But it hasn't been changed yet, so it is still applicable law.

free refills aren't a thing in europe. you want another drink, you pay for it, the drink fountains tend to be behind the counter, while in america, i've seen videos where the drink fountain is right next to the counter for the customers to use, they're just given a cup to fill it with the drink they paid

Literally my history teacher was going to be a father last October and his wife gave birth and they went to the hospital in the morning because he left school and the students got a substitute teacher he came back Monday and he left a Friday because there is no maternal or parental leave for teachers in public schools by the way his wife is a kindergarten teacher at an elementary school(public) and he teaches AP,honors, and regular classes at a public high school the audacity the education system has for their educators 😢and he told us that his wife also went back to teaching that same Monday 😔

I think one could argue that the Second Amendment only refers to the right to bear arms in case of the militia, but it is widely interpreted to mean the right for everyone to bear arms.

If the video was done here in the UK. The producers would be able to get the real guns due to how strict our gun laws are. Also If they did get an armourer who would be willing to supply the guns. It might have way too expensive to had them for a few minutes on screen.
@9:00 Lolz, no the USA constatution is based on the Netherlands constitution. So it is banned in the original text (like it still is in the Netherlands). It is just the amendments that needs to change. Basically they just need to keep the original Netherlands Constitution like the USA started out with (like with the Decleration of independance, they didn't change that much from the original Netherlands text). And then they would have a much more peacefull and healthy country :D
edit: It's also why the United states gets their United states from, it was originally from the united states of the netherlands :)

You can and I bet you know that there are a lot of experts actually saying that the 2nd amendment was clearly related to the situation back then when the US Army hadn’t secured and established their presence in all parts of the US territories back when the constituation was drafted and that therefore a well regulated militia was necessary. Remember it says „being necessary to the security of a free State“. That security is now guaranteed by police. The well regulated militia isn’t necessary anymore.
And btw a well regulated militia also implies a) strict regulation, b) some kind of organized militia and c) regular checks of a) and b) and we all know that neither a) nor b) are the case.
2nd amendment is prefaced by a phrase saying something like (this is from memory and may be slightly wrong) "since a strong militia is necessary to secure the independence of the nation" I think an argument can be made that this is no longer the case and that therefore the corollary - "the right to bear arms shall not be infringed" no longer holds. Not on the US supreme court though so don't at me.
I don`t know of any fast food outlet in Europe where you can refill your drinks for free. I find it very unfortunate. But the soft drinks contain significantly more sugar in America than in Europe i had read.☺💚

Hello (again). Here in the Czech Republic, a parent can stay at home with a child for up to 4 years and the employer cannot fire her. At that time, the state pays for all her insurance. It is the exact amount that the mother will receive on maternity leave. But the mother can decide for herself if she wants to receive a larger monthly amount and be at home for, for example, only a year. The most common is 3 years.

Burger King in Belgium has free refills, but I always see the beverages coming out of the machines as a mixture of 2 things so I doubt it's anywhere near the real 'coca cola' or 'Fanta'..

The thing that always baffled me about how Americans say "it's in the constitution. It's my right to to bear arms, you can't change that". Is that the part of the constitution that mentions that is an amendment... Meaning it was added later. So, the constitution can in fact be changed/amended.
Imagine thinking the “dark” bit is the gun violence and not the universal healthcare, education, food safety or support for families. The original video doesn’t even talk about bodily autonomy for women, racism, trans rights, the failed penal and prison system, the terrible electoral system, home grown terrorists. The US is a dystopian nightmare in the present. The UK (where I am) is following down a slippery slope, but the US is light years ahead.

It's maybe a really european thing to say but "It's the second amendment" is such a bonkers way to justify the whole gun rights thing. When these "rules" were made you had to still fight the British for your land and it took a good while to reload an archaic gun, you didn't know was even gonna hit the target. You just can't compare this to a semi-automatic weapon where 20 people are dead before even someone has the chance to call the police...
maternity leave (starts 6-8 weeks before giving birth, in total it´s 6 months) and parental leave... in Czech Republic for each child we get certain amount of money, the payment we can spred up to 3 years, sometimes even 4! it totally depends on the mother (or father), how long they want to stay home with children. If you have more kids, you get paid leave over many many years!
To be honest, you usually have no choice other than stay at home because the daycare either doesn't exist or is expensive and there is a cult of staying with kid at home as long as possible and working moms using daycare or nany are usually viewed as bad parents. (I don't agree).
My German aunt has 3 daughters, her maternity leave was 2 years, and her daughters are all 2 years apart each, she had 6 years of maternity leave!! (not continuously ofc, but still almost). This was a long time ago, like 30 years or smth so it might not be the same nowadays, but I'm very happy she got to raise her daughters while keeping her job.

About maternity leave. I'm from Croatia and we get 1 year off. For the first 6 months (actually, it's a bit more, because you start the maternity leave a couple of weeks before your due date) you get 100% of your paycheck and for the next 6 months you get a lower amount, it's a fixed rate, but those 6 months each one of the parents can use, and also they don't have to use them straight away but can opt to use them later (although almost all use them straight away), and mums, in general, get back to work when their kid celebrates 1st birthday.
Lithuania: * parents have a decision to make about their parental leave (we try not to call it vacation): either a full year with 100% of their income (average of the last 8 months) or 2 years with 72% of their income. The other parents gets a mandatory 1 month leave. EU mandatory term is 2 weeks for the second parent to entice fathers to be present in their child's development.
* either parent can choose who's taking the long leave, usually mothers take 2 years, fathers the 1 month one. 2nd year can be delegated to a grandparent they get a percentage of their salary too;
Other bonuses:
* each baby gets a gift bag from a municipality. Contents depend on that municipality;
* each child gets a stipend of 90€ / month , disabled children and if a family has 3 or more - each child gets 120€/mo up until 18 years old.
* kindergardens (preschools) are subsidized, costs around 90€ / mo. Children are fed 3 times a day I think. There are private kindergardens, they are more expensive but exact same sum of money is subsidized for parents;
* schools and universities are free. There are private options obviously (I know one super modern high school where a year costs 6000€/year)
* children in primary school have free lunch. Not a self serve style as video in Finland, but it's so to prevent food waste.
* speaking of food, only healthy food are presented in schools, they have special menus. Don't know how is it effective as I see a group of 5th graders in my local cafeteria almost everyday, buying regular lunch. But hey when I went to school, i thrived at cheaply made pizzas and candies. Cafetria not so healthy option is still better.
* Each child gets a 15€ card for cultural activities with the class. The sum is debatable and pitiful, but it's 15€ that parents do not need to spend on class excursions
* school supplies are not free, sadly. That's one thing emigrants keep braging about their new countries;
* Children are mandated to leave their phones at their lockers
The 410 days off work for the mothers are in Bulgaria. Its true actually.. and we are talking about working days, holidays and weekends aside. What to say - we are quite family oriented society :)

There is no free refills in general (talking about Germany here). I think subway did it and burger king at some time, not sure if they are still doing it.

The thing is that all Europeans are used to, paying higher taxes.
BUT, those taxes comes back to you, in form of cheaper schools, hospitals, and other things.
And not to mention, ambulances are FREE.
we don't need free refills because we don't fill up our cups with 15% beverage 85% ice... it's all beverage and usually it's quite difficult for me to finish the cup, I always leave some of the drink because it's too much...
Maternity leave in Slovenia - 1year, fully paid. And also Father gets 1month of fully paid fatherly leave. Education almost free; you pay your books, workbooks and notebooks only. Healthcare also free till the end of university, then you start paying when you get your job.

A thing that i cant wrap head around is the heating system in many US-houses.
IIRC most houses have a central heating that regulates the temperature in the whole house. I dont know if specific rooms can be heated or all at once. I assume the latter.
Why does the whole house have to be heated? If i am mostly in a rotation between kitchen/bathroom/(livingroom or mancave or whatever) i dont see any need to heat all guestrooms, storages or floors and whatnot.
Where i live every room has a heater and every heater can be 'activated' if needed, so unused rooms where i dont stay for a while, wont be heated and i save fuel and money.
Please tell me my assumption is wrong and separate rooms can get heated separately.
It varies from country to country. In the Czech Republic we have:
- complete free healthcare (only the cost of medicines); you can call the ambulance with a fever and no fine is set (it should be),
- 3-5 years paid maternity leave with a guarantee that the employer has to keep the job (OK, the money is not much and the position may not be quite the same when you return),
- relatively good quality education completely free from primary school to university (only textbooks and school supplies are paid for).

In Hungary, the mother (or the father if he is the caregiver) receives financial support from the state for 2 years, but in case they do not leave the child at daycare before they turn 3, then up to the 3rd birthday of the child.
Not all fat people want to eat or drink. Since my car accident, I have become fat. I can't walk and I don't like food. We eat as healthy as we can and I eat 1 meal per day most days and it is only a very small amount but due to my health I can't loss the weight. I wish I could and I have been working at it for years now. So not all fat people are fat due to over eating or eating the wrong foods some are fat due to health problems.

Actually, in Bulgaria the mother gets 2 years of maternity leave after the baby is born, but only the 1st year you're piad you're full salary every month, then it goes down to the minimum. So I guess those 410 days refer to the time off you get before and after the bay is born when you get your full salary every month?
I am from Spain and if they put a real big gun near me I would freak out. They are so scary and bad. Only military service and police should have those. I understand that sport and hunt can been given to very. selected and professionally proven people. But never to everyone. I am so happy that guns aren't an issue here
In Belgium university entrance cost about 931 Euros and when you have a low income you can get scholarship. The average uni education lasts for about 4 years so that makes 3724 euros for you whole education on entrance fee alone, with books, computers and other stuff it should be about 5000-6000 euros for your education (if you study at home. When you have a room at uni, it's 500 euros a month)

In Slovakia, we get 3 years of parental leave from when the child is born, not counting the 9 months of pregnancy the mother can choose to stay at home and get 60% of her salary.

When you start fitness training, it's tough to start with, but then becomes gradually easier.
An obese person gradually wants more and more as the body expands.
I think it's all based on the science that everything in the universe is a spiralling circle.
There are no straight lines.
Unfortunately, many 'beginners' at the gym give up too quickly and don't give themselves a chance to discover it will get easier.
Toy guns as real guns are, thankfully, VERY heavily restricted in Europe
Damn, with the maternity leave, in my country, you can stay home with the kid for about three years, until they can go to kindergarten. You don't have to, but it's honestly more profitable, because paying for day nursery or something. You get less than your paycheck, but it's alright, it's more than 50% and you can chose how to receive the money, it's like a certain amount and you either get the same every month or more at the start and less later on and stuff.
Regarding free refills, in some countries you will have them but in most it's downright illegal for sweet drink like sodas, that's part of the fight against child obesity and diabetes
Not European, but Chilean, here in my city there's only one fast food place that lets you get one free refill on your drink per customer (and it's not a US American chain) and when living in Ecuador KFC had free refills, but other than that I haven't seen it.
