- Today we've got Aaron Hiebert back in the shop for a few awesome setups - today its a killer 1976 Gibson Explorer through a limited-edition 1994 Marshall 1959LTD Super Lead 100 Plexi half-stack! The guitar and amp are both in great shape, with the only change made being a DiMarzio bridge pickup (original "tarback" bridge is included), and these two absolutely scream! Jay is excited about this setup so we'll let him tell you all about it before handing things off to Aaron!

I have an '84 Explorer, a '93 1959SLP, and a 1960 Vintage cabinet.
I can't imagine how loud this must've been in the room. That amp is absolutely deafening.
Ohh Aaron..... Number 1 as usual

I have a '76 Reissue with the jumbo neck....10-46's & plays like butter, pretty much plays itself...lol. It's my 2nd kid, I will never part with it...a killer guitar
Applause!!!!
Sounds fantastic!
But would love to hear it with the original bridge pick-up back where it should be.
Was the Edges guitar a LE?
He has a bunch of the 1976 Explorers, but his very first one (which suffered a headstock break) is an LE.
Your website clearly calls it a Limited Edition explorer. Make up your mind.
Its sounds great but it always disappoints me when I hear that a great expmalle of a 70s gibson has a dinarzio which are great pickups but prefer t tops and tar backs people assume tarback were shitty pickups and that is why they were often replaced or think they were just potted t tops but they were a fantastic pickup designed by bill Lawrence who did not make shitty pickups . The tar backs are fantastic pickups but people changed them becuase the low output versions were not powerful enough to drive single channel amps into bigger levels of distortion they also suffered from gibson using 300 k pots and 150k tone pots which made them sound dark and muddy .. but with 500 k pots all around or even 300k volume and 500k tone they sound amazing. Today with modern amplification with extra gain stages and dedicated overdrive channels pickups like tar backs and t tops sound amazing when thevnap is doing all the work and those pickups retain great clarity . A tarback neck was only 5k to 5.2 k and the bridge was between 7.3k and 7.8k but the small ceramic magnet gave then the ability to punch above their weight . They sound particularly good in late 70s to early 80s explorers
Once again.... much respect for the guitarist.
The amps tone still sucks.
The tone is stellar. You may not like it, but it sure is a great old school Marshall sound with great punch and awesome crunch.
I wonder what DiMarzio model that bridge pu is, sounds killer. Would’ve liked to hear the original pu too. The sounds coming out of the neck tar back pu are out of this world, such great clarity. Guess the super low winding for a humbucker is the reason.
He’s afraid to put earplugs in and turn it up to a volume where it would really start to sound good and get more gain
Have a drink on me! Lol classic
