What is the difference between players of sehwag era and virat is that. Most players even sehwag Sachin dravid suffered from hamstring pull or need physio support after getting hundred or played a long innings and avoided talking fast two's while virat runs the first single with same intensity as the last single. Arre bhai cricket is changing. It’s much more faster than old days.
Lifting is important for extra power in modern cricket. Weight training is important in modern days. Not everyone can play that shot which Virat has played on Rauf in T20 WC.
You need strong core, strong shoulder.
Tendulkar is exceptional and his gifted. Virat has to put some extra effort. But yes that is true that every body is different and should be trained accordingly

@@ankitdaksh703 Then, anyone eating Samosa, Vada Pav & biriyani would have scored runs in Int. cricket for 20years. In batting, fitness matters a lot. Running between the wickets is a necessary in chasing targets.
Also fielding is a key part of modern day cricket...Teams like Australia, New Zealand used to dominate the fielding dept....why???...because they put efforts in the fielding. Majority of their player except for certain Darren Lehmann had superb fitness level. We lacked that. Not everyone is a gifted athlete but by strength training, it can be altered & Food choices.

I genuinely respect him, but we must not forget that he was removed from the modern format of the game (t20) due to fitness issues. He's certainly got a few good points but it's quite possible that the old school ways of going about the fitness mechanics of the sport have changed over the years because of the game's pace and it's demands.
The similarity in Ashwin's and kohli's gym program can be primarily because of the common role (fielding) that we all know if played right, could turn the tables in modern cricket significantly. Much respect to him nonetheless. Good conversation ❤

These days cricketers need to play year round and three formats. Without proper strength, e.g. core strength and leg strength which you can get through weight training - you can’t sustain yourself as an elite sportsperson, no matter what the sport.
I agree with some of what Viru is saying - everyone needs different exercise routine, and Olympic lifts are safer if you have been doing since childhood and probably not necessary for cricket.
But cricketers do need weight training and Indian cricketers are much fitter overall now than they used to be in Viru’s era. They do need to stretch more and improve their flexibility in addition to weight training. Yoga is a great practice.

With all the respect to Sehwag sir🙏❤️, I think it's not completely okay to say something is wrong or something is right. It's not either black or white.
If we do deadlifts or any kind of heavy weight training, a professional sportsman should go through ice and heat therapy, deep tissue massages, regular sauna to stay mobile and maximize muscle growth and recovery.
We see all the time, the mma fighters go through armbar, knee bar etc which weirdly over extends their joints, and tendon damage is a normal thing for them......Yet, they do lot of weight training to keep the Fast twich muscle fibres in good shape.
For the stretching part, I wanna say that football is so much rougher sport than cricket. They do dynamic stretching before warm up, and static stretching after game or training session. So stretching is super necessary, but we should know when we have to do what.
The game is becoming fast, and the players should do weight training in off season for longevity and explosiveness.

When it comes to western mindset in regards to the stretching in yoga (when it was mentioned specifically ki ek AMERICAN ne ye baat kahi) or let's also consider the stretch in weight training .. and then putting a point that how we can do recovery as well after to prevent any possible strain or injury..there comes mediation / deep breathing which helps in relaxation to the core of every cell of the body..
Kaash uss American ne yoga ki hi deep breathing practices ya fr mediation techniques ko thoda padha hota aur fr bataya hota ki jo stretch ya strain ho raha hai use recover bh badhiya tareeke se yoga practices se hi Kiya ja sakta hai!!! People are criticizing sehwag for comparing 2 era and not believing in current fitness regimes.. But I think what he means is everybody is trying to be Virat Kohli nowadays but every body has a different body.. Also, training shouldn't be so intense during cricket seasons that the muscles don't get time enough time to recover for the game. And he has rightly pointed out that despite there was no t20 cricket, still so many players have played over 100 Tests and over 350 ODI games and yet they hardly got injured due to hamstring, which quite common these days..
