It is, really. The clientele of the more expensive places tend to be more "important" like businessmen with lots of money hiring company for the night. They don't want to risk their more affluent customers seeing * gasp * GAYS!

Dude, gay people have been discriminated against for as long as gay people have existed (so for as long as humans have existed). It won't go away any time soon. That's just the sad reality.
@@englishatheart I get that mentality, but this is factually incorrect. Gay people being seen as negative or socially unacceptable is actually pretty recent in many regions when looking at a historical time-scale. For example, homophobia in the West is largely just a Christian invention, further exported and forced upon colonized regions. Homophobia, or more broadly Queerphobia, is not some natural null-position of society or humanity. It's an artificial prejudice that only moves from its own inertia, and it can be eliminated. Don't lose hope.

Love this duo and the legend Natsuki of course. I listen to them while cooking, cleaning and working (when I'm alone at the office). and trash taste podcast as well. Hope get to see more of these series.
I know Japan is culturally still very "conservative", but I was quite surprised how aggressively two men would be turned away at a love hotel despite the anti discrimination law reform.. I mean honestly, a love hotel is supposed to be all about anonymity, what does it hurt the business even if two men were "going at it"? So much so that they'd turn away business and violate local laws. Now I kind of want to go leave them bad reviews.
On top of what Weird Name said I think the hotels in the video also felt comfortable breaking the law and aggressively turning them away because they are foreigners. The law is pretty niche and I doubt many foreigners in general would even know about it. Hell the guys didn’t know till after they filmed the video. The hotel staff pry are conservative/homophobic, and given they are a higher quality hotel, pry just felt full of themselves and assumed they can get away w it easily. Hopefully lgbt+ fans who do live in Japan can give those hotels bad ratings or notify a department about the discrimination 🤷
Not gonna lie the last one looks like an absolute fucking banger. Legitimately better than most hotels I've ever been to and I've been to some pretty luxurious hotels in Rome and Athens for example. Usually they have spas or rooftop pools with great service and all that but the rooms themselves don't have all sorts of crazy amenities. The thing I like about that last love hotel is because of it's rather unique nature the room is absolutely massive, has stuff like massage chairs, rock baths and the food looks great. Those are generally things that you don't really need in a usual hotel since you're expected to just see the place you're visiting and eating out etc instead of spending time in the hotel room. That said most good hotels have really damn good food in the room service menu but you basically never use it.
The Bintangs they gave you with your meal in the last Bali themed hotel was really the icing on the cake for me. A great room all round but they then went to the extent to get Bali beer, props to them honestly.
Yep, as Balinese, I approve that hotel, truly captures the feeling of Bali. If only the mineral water brand Connor gulped was Aqua or Balian, that would've been perfect.

Now that they know the law changed, they should go back to those hotels that kicked them out and bring the law up and see what happens
Yup, or maybe there's some institution guarding consumer's rights where they can report it. It's definetely not okay to discriminate people in such a way, especially when it's against the law of the country

While this is superficially light video, showing the prejudice you suffered as two men going into a love hotel makes an important point. Hopefully sometime not too far into the future people will be free to be who they are all around the world.

@@stonks3507 I'm a data scientist 😁 and I'm guessing all males would receive the most discrimination. But I'd prefer data to suspicion,,,
I know Japan is culturally still very "conservative", but I was quite surprised how aggressively two men would be turned away at a love hotel despite the anti discrimination law reform.. I mean honestly, a love hotel is supposed to be all about anonymity, what does it hurt the business even if two men were "going at it"? So much so that they'd turn away business and violate local laws. Now I kind of want to go leave them bad reviews.
It’s hard to change the minds of a long held mindset
Japan is very much anti-lgbt for the most part, though it is getting better, slowly
