    The TriAd is my favorite lock and I love your channel so I get really excited when you review a Cold Steel. Cold Steel knives are for Cold Steel fans a diferent type of proud carry. Most people in the knife world pride themselves of carrying a real high end framelock flipper with smooth operation and the best quality materials. Fans of the TriAd lock pride themselves of carrying a lock that noone ever saw failing. We consider the real hard use folders with that lock.

    Got the clip & tanto lite versions of that knife and they're, unbeatable! Been EDCing them for nearly a year. So, I just ordered the premium SR-1 clip point cause I consider it to be the "ultimate" folder! Had to have it... GREAT video here too btw!

    The SR1 is a great knife. They need to make the blade thinner to about 3.8mm or 4mm and keep the spine sharp for outdoor woodcraft. The thickness should be about halfway from the SR1 and Recon 1. This would increase sales IMHO

  • @67cuda38
    @67cuda38 3 роки тому

    Bringing out the tank of folders, with the best lock ever designed in my opinion. The American tanto design, although unusual practically for skinning, far superior in strength to the clip point design. I have one from the first USA batch. Of course, not my first pick for an EDC, but I do, as the last defense choice. I prefer the Recon 1 in XHP, yet my Kershaw 1776BLK is my first go-to in EDC. The Kershaw is a more refined, detail blade, and the assist makes it quickly accessible.

    Hey LTK, you love hard-use and beasty folders, why don't I see ya reviewing Coldsteel XL folders? like the XL Recons/Talwars/Holdouts? You seem to dart around their fringe models like the 4max, sr1, frenzy, etc lol.
    They're even more ridiculous than these at a much better value, and you got more blade! I love those things lol, it's a weird mixture of super efficient, linerless and grippy G10 handles, world's strongest lock, and yet 5.5" of hunking XHP steel. haha!

    Hey, I am from Germany an it would be interesting to me if you can convert this Folder into a 2hand opening blade by removing the Thumbstuds.
    Because over here we are only allowed to carry a locking Blade if it is 2 hand opening.
    Can you open the Blade one handed even if the Studs are removed?
    If it is convertable I buy it immedeatly! :-)
    Silly Laws in Germany, a locking bladed Spyderco with an opening hole would be illegal under every circumstance, can you imagine?
    Keep up the good work, i like every Video I see!
    And those are many hehe...

    nice review brother. always confuses me when people say things like "it'll never be a fine slicer".
    Ok, maybe not out of the box but who settles for that?
    In your exp, do you never reprofile knives that just don't make the cut for you? pardon the pun. lol
    If a knife doesn't perform the way you'd like it to, reprofile. that's what i do.
    I have often wondered why people leave them subpar. Could you help me understand this? Is it merely "warranty"???

    Great knife, but Taiwan! I struggle so much with this fact. Same goes for Spyderco. Only Asia country I trust my knives is Japan. How often have you heard. "Junk made in Taiwan". Damn it Cold Steel& Spyderco. If it were my Company I would definitely consider this fact with Knife Fanatics. I wonder how sales are with these knives. I bet they lack.

    • @sturmgewehr70
      @sturmgewehr70 5 років тому +1

      I used to struggle with the "Taiwan thing," too. Benchmade was my brand for everything. ...then the news came out about their almost exclusive left wing political candidate donations . The anti 2nd Amendment type ,not only in their home state of Oregon, but other states, as well, and I'm done. I'm still in the process of selling off my Benchmade collection accumulated over 25 years.

    I wish Cold Steel could shave off 1.5 ounces off this bad boy (SR1 light version at 5 ounces).I don't think it would compromise the strength that much.It would also be outstanding with a Snaggletooth Mod on it too.

    This is my new self-appointed mission in life! TO WARN PEOPLE BEFORE BUYING THIS KNIFE. The design FLAW IS THAT IT IS AN ABSOLUTE POCKET SHREDDER!!! YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO PUT THIS KNIFE IN AND OUT OF YOUR PANTS AND REMOVE IT WITHOUT SHREDDING YOUR PANTS, OR EVEN THE NYLON STRAPS ON YOUR BACKPACK. My credentials for making such a definitive statement? I carry a knife every single day. I have owned and used Medfords, Chris Reeves, Hoback and Hinderer knives. I have 4 Medfords sitting on my shelf presently. My favorite EDC, Spyderco Military and Paramilitary 2. Why does anyone waste their time doing a review on this knife when the first thing that should be mentioned, is that it is A POCKET SHREDDER!. Sure, you can bend the clip to loosen it, or sand down the G10 under the clip and mod the knife. I picked mine up from the post office, put it in my pocket, immediately packed it back in the box and slapped on a return label. End of story. BUYER BEWARE ON THIS COLD STEEL MODEL!

      500 pounds static weight. Not quite as impressive as it may seem at first blush. Dynamic weight is a much more useful standard for a folding knife.

    • @Tenskwatawa4U

      Unless you can provide a valid citation for this claim it's nothing but your opinion, not a fact.

    • @maulstik
      @maulstik 6 років тому +3

      lol you're dumb as a sack of twigs if you think it's possible to provide a 'valid citation' for this, as if someone's gonna do standardized hang-weight testing for literally every folder made in the world. Based on everything the entire collective folding-knife community has experienced in the last 5 years + Cold Steel doing testing videos of their knives vs other namebrand/top dogs, nothing can challenge the Triad lock, even gimmicks like the Extrema Rao knife. It is a very obvious fact. It shouldn't even take a bit of imagination to inductively reason this fact.

    • @tonycanniffe2360
      @tonycanniffe2360 6 років тому +3

      Bubba Peppers Im not a Cold Steel fanboy but I have a few. Hard to generalise across the whole range re value/price. (I'd never consider buying some of their knives) I think they offer good value quite often. If you compare like knives. Steels are good/excellent (I am one who misses the CTS XHP). Cold Steel seems to get the heat treat right. I think the QC is very good. I see made in Taiwan as a plus (my favourite Spydie is made in Taiwan) Recon 1 is outstanding value@ $100 or so. I can't think of any better value folders with comparable materials and size.
      Contego 2x price, Manix2 XL $50 more, Military $70+ more.
      Broken Skull vs Endura: similar price, design. CS much better steel...
      Lawman/Code 4/Ultimate Hunter are great value at their price point in that 31/2 in range.
      I think there are more obvious knocks on the company (branding/billboarding blades marketing, etc)
      But if you don't see the value, don't 'invest' lol.
      I think the SR1 is too overbuilt. I'd be reaching for a fixed blade, if the Recon 1 isn't up to the task.
      What brands do you think aren't overpriced?
