Bayonets still have multiple military uses, besides opening cardboard boxes. For example, chasing prisoners, riot control and fixed as a last resort fighting tool when troopers are out of ammo. Also, they are properly both pointy and sharpened. BTW, my favorite is the US Army's M7 of Vietnam fame.
The Imbel IA2 is truly a great bayonet, there is a video on Imbel's channel where tbey run over the bayonet with an 15+ ton APC, and absolutely nothing happens to the blade. They also beat the grip with a hammer with no damage done. Steel on both AMZ and IA2 is 1070 carbon, Imbel states that it goes through a special heat treating procedure, giving it it's impressive toughness and durability. Hefty price but worth it. The scabbard is also well designed and made from polymer, there's a small metal piece inside that has a spring behind it, and it keeps the blade from rattling while inside.
@@pointynotsharp you're welcome friend, love your videos, and also love the M9! 😂 I'm also looking to buy a IA2, hopefully soon. The civilian version only difference is the pommel, which lacks the locks for a picatinny rail. I find this configuration weird because it fits right into the IA2s rail under the handguard. That will probably obstruct any laser sights or flashlights I may have in there. Rifle is realiable though lol.
@@pointynotsharp these are only issued to army personnel currently equipped with IA2 rifles. There are no restrictions on civilians owning bayonets here in Brazil, so IA2 with rail locks on the pommel aren't like a controlled product, they only sell the civilian version with a solid pommel because unfortunately, no civilian here will have the actual IA2 rifle to attach the bayonet to. This difference makes sense, and it is more practical and durable for the activities these knives will see, like bushcraft and tactical use.
I have an OKC M9 that I purchased commercially for about $55 US. It was a factory second. The top strap was sewn on backwards, so I just fixed it easy-peasy. You’re right about it being super clunky. But, hey! The price was right. It mounts to my shotgun 😏
I have the "big brother" model of the IMBEL knife. It is the knife adopted by the CIGS military, which is the elite combat group in the Amazon jungle and for that reason, it needs to be big, as it has to serve as a machete. CIGS personnel are considered the most specialized troops for combat in the world's "tropical jungle" biome. Military personnel from different countries even come to do jungle combat training with CIGS. This training is extremely difficult and only 20% of those enrolled are able to complete it.
US troops used bayonets to keep back packs of wild dogs in the city’s of the middle east; just because they aren’t used to kill enemies does not mean they are obsolete. A knife is always a worthwhile tool to carry; and a spear is a much better emergency weapon than a knife if need be. Anyone who says it’s obsolete does not have real field experience. Ive never worked with anyone that didn’t advocate having one.

It's so good to hear that the bayonet is finally being ushered off to the dust bin of history. It's an anachronism that has no use in modern armies. A decent combat knife makes so much more sense.
Pretty funny that the IA2 bayonet was made for the 5.56mm IA2 rifle, and the AMZ was made especially for the 7.62mm IA2 variant. You also get "more knife" with your rifle that shoots "more bullet" 😂
In the very beginning rifles were very long and so were the bayonets. Some of the rifles you showed, are so short, that you can wonder, if it makes sense to have a bayonet. Shouldn't they make the bayonets much longer to balance the short rifle? I did my military service with the Heckler&Koch G3. We never got the bayonet. I own one now (Eickhorn), and it is a hell of a thing, really cool. 😉
Ever wonder just exactly what was expected of a bayonet? I’d love to see the specifications and performance standards used by. (For example) the USMC. Were I to be asked to design a bayonet, I’d start with the basic Kabar knife. I’d add a wire cutter, some serrations to the blade, and a sawback that was truly effective on wood and bamboo. Alternative starting points might be either of Kabar’s “Tanto” point knives. After all, the first requirement of a bayonet is to stab - and for that you need a tough point.
