  • Harquahala Mountain is the highest peak in southwestern Arizona, standing at 5,681 feet. The trail to the summit is rocky and steep, but the breathtaking views and fascinating history of the area make it worth the effort.
Before starting the trail, stop at the trailhead and check out the kiosk for information on the mountain's history, including the Smithsonian observatory that was once located at the summit.
Be prepared for the challenging shelf road, which is steep and winding. Hold onto your steering wheel and enjoy the ride!

Definitely would be better than Table Mesa Road as a Badge Trail.

Man thank you. I recently got a 2021 wrangler sport, and im looking for a beginner level offroad trails. And you always provide good ideas for me, because I can see what to expect on the trail to decide if me and my vehicle are ready enough for it or not. Much appreciated.

Thanks! It was on my list for a while and a bit of a drive from PHX but well worth it.

Good job of showing us the road to Harquahala. I drove it a couple of years ago in a stock 2021 Wrangler JLU Sport. No lockers on it and weren't required but the road is like you said rocky and steep. It takes some time. I drove back down in the dark after watching the moon rise and seeing the stars. There is a better view of the stars to the west away from Phoenix lights.

I felt the height of the drop off on the shelf road was pretty intense. I can’t imagine driving down in the dark….wait it actually might be better as you can’t see over the edge!

Good show...I noticed several shots taken by a drone while your Jeep was moving. How did you accomplish driving and guiding the drone at the same time?

I actually don’t use the drone that often. There are various ways. Second person flying off camera, some drones have a follow mode, (mine doesn’t), etc.

Drove up about 5 years ago and there was a large boulder to squeeze, and I mean squeeze, by in the last highest part of the trail. It was kinda scary. Driving a 97 TJ.

It is definitely a climb to the top. Squeezing by something like that is certainly sketchy.

Howdy, Arizona neighbor. Great videos. I always look forward to them. Hey, is that trail wide enough for an 04 Suburban 4WD with a small lift? I'm almost to Apache Junction, and I don't want to get halfway up and have to back down. Again, thanks for the great videos, and keep em coming

The trail is fairly wide so I wouldn’t see any issue with that. The section at 8:28 was the hardest when I ran it. Thanks for watching.
