  • TODAY IS THE DAY! This is one of the most anticipated moments of the build... fitting the body back on the chassis. There's been a lot of changes since it last fit together so we're REALLY hoping that everything is good and that it goes together.... 😝 (this emoji tells it all)

The Bugatti is coming together nicely. I truley love the gracefully flowing lines. Styling that was well ahead of its time.
I see Nathan has a cool 'bricknose' Ford flatbed off in the distance. Looks pretty cool...👍

What a great project. You’ve shown me and a lot of other people that if you what to fabricate a classic car you can do it. But to video this every day on this kind of car is not feasible for TV or UA-cam. I appreciate the fabrication and metal work you show me on other projects. But keep it up as long as it’s good for UA-cam.
    Thanks you Chad and Jolene.

Good luck. Watching you for couple weeks now. A newbie. Love what you can do. Watching you with the 56 Plymouth. Just love the particular car as my uncle had that same year and model. I was 7 or 8 at the time and wanted to own it but never happened. Don’t see too many of those any longer.
Jolene and you are a perfect match. Always look forward to the next day.

Chad, Jolene, & Nathan, I would have been really shocked if it had gone on with no issues. Nice work though Chad there were not that many issues. I hope that you took enough off the firewall for it to fit now. Chad it was good to have Nathan there with you he is definitely the guy you want when it comes to another set of eyes on the fitment of things. I hope the next time is a go and everything clears the chassis. Jolene are you getting more excited yet about your car getting worked on. I imagine that hurt a bit to hear about paint on the frame getting chipped off but, unfortunately those things happen when you are dealing with tight clearances on a custom build that has never been completely assembled. It will all get touched up perfectly, you will make sure of that! Great video as always, you do such a good job of making sure we get to see everything that is happening.

You can use 1/2 diameter wood dowels about 6 inch long inserted into each corner body mounts to help align body with frame once down pullout dowels and replace with bolts.

Air ride isn't overrated if done properly. I have 4 vehicles with it currently and dozens over the years and no problems. Remember tractor trailers have air ride and go millions of miles. I'm not a troll just felt needed to defend air suspension a bit. Love what yall are doing. Watch daily and wear my Hiltz hat everwhere

Yeah, getting it to fit the first time was a long shot. Close but no teddy bear! Eventually its going to be an awesome ride for Jolene. With luck she may take you with her. lol I'm glad Jolene doesn't bleep out the occassional cuse word, it keeps the vid's real. Thing that suprises me is the generally wholesome language. I think a lot of that is due to the love and respect for Jolene.

Stay positive Chad. Just small adjustments and some paint scratches. Think ahead of your project and the safety of who's driving it. That's what matters. If you have to do those little things it's worth it in the end.

I still say add some beetle vents to the back of the floorboard and some kind of front vent to the cowl. Owners of the Atlantic class of Bugatti say the worst thing about the car is cabin airflow. I owned a Fairlane fastback and a racer told me he had a problem keeping rear windows in the car, but I explained after he told me he welded up the trunk lid. That Ford left a hidden gap on the back lid of the trunk for a pressure relief.

I would recommend, if you get the body nicely fitted, then weld some guides at strategic places to help the body slide right into the right spot to line up perfectly, it will save lots of trouble next time you want to remove or mount the body again.

@@Jerry-up8bk well I am sure they will be removing the body and mount it again at least once or more before the car would even drive. The Bugatti is one of those designs where in order to do some of the stuff on it, you need to remove the body, which is very different than the Doodlebug which is a unibody.

Pro tip: If you put the jack under the car at 12:00 then lift it up, you can do fine adjustments by pulling the handle to the side. As the jack pivots on the front roller the rear swivel wheels will swing the jack point a couple inches left or right.

Chad. Looking great. I would consider on the front ends of the frame horn where it is so tight using 3M weatherstrip adhesive and attaching a thin piece of inner tube to protect the paint.
2). Also at the firewall behind the heads making a bead rolled panel to give you more clearance behind the engine. If the chassis flexes you wouldn’t want the engine to contact the firewall and bang or buzz.

Pre ordered kit cars like Morgans that are built on the chassis have more fitting issues so you can't knock the 3rd test fit, especially with all the custom work Nathan had to do with Jaguar engine to get it running. I saw a vintage AA badge at a local car boot sale & snapped it up for Jolene as they look sweet on old rides, or Chad can stick it in the showroom. Wondering if i post it with for Jolene's car care of Chad & crew it will get there!

Jolene Chad isn't thinking about a few things because he moves to damn fast. The problem with the tiny bit he cut out is yes it will fit close but he's not taking in to consideration the movement that body is going to move because of the body mounts. He has the opportunity to open it up right now because he just put back half what he took off and after bodywork and paint, it's going to rub. It doesn't matter one bit how much he takes out because you will never see it but it's going to be a very bad day when it doesn't fit

As a vehicle built to "show" level, the under body structure should be closed in with polished aluminum panels, with designs rolled into them. The square section structure should be bonded to the floor panels with seam sealer, before installing the finishing panels with stainless steel blind rivets.

What did all this start out as?
The engine is from a Jaguar sedan, but that's all I can readily identify. Where's the chassis from - the same car, or something else?
Did you build the body yourself? If you did, that's some impressive work - those complex curves couldn't have been easy.

Two words for you: wheel dollies! Even cheap furniture dollies would have made that so much easier. Great to see the Bugatti back on the front burner again!

I wonder if David Grainger (owner of the Guild restoration shop in Holland Landing Ont.) the recreator of the Bugatti Aerolith, has an opinion of your Bug- other than "Its nice".
