Now this car appears to be sorted I’d love to see another video explaining the main differences between BMW & Maseratis approach as to why these engines appear to be destined to self destruct & uneconomical to repair at around this sort of mileage. The design of the oil pump pretty much sums up a major failing to begin with but it would be interesting to go deeper down the rabbit hole & explain in depth to us viewers who are still tempted to take the plunge. Wishing you all the very best & keep the projects coming & channel alive 👍

Hi Sreten, long time subscriber from Poland here. In the interest of the community please share the name of the scammers who tried to sell you that worn "11kkm" engine. If you can fall victim to such scam, anyone can - so It is critical that they get called out on their BS.
As much as that could help anyone, it doens't help Sreten in the slightliest, he could just get sued for difamation even if it's the truth, in situations like these is just better to keep your mouth shut, if it was on a forum or on social media, sure, blast them out! but here? nah.
well they returned him money and even pay for return shipping and probably would even for shipping if he used one they arranged. Compared to most Czech or German sellers that is just unbelievably good service. Even when the engine is bad.
@@j.d.8593 One cannot be liable for defamation if the facts prove the case. The suppliers suggested 11k used, but the visible facts declare otherwise. In a court of law the dodgy dealers would be hard-pressed to make good their cause.
Hello, Sreten! To make life easier for lowering anything in a more precisely manner with that "apple picker"😂, use a grip pliers on that little pipe that you normally turn with your hand to let hydraulic pressure out. Use the pliers to grab the pipe and slowly turn and you'll have more control on how slow you want to lower something. Hope you understood what I meant to say here! This trick helped me many times. Love your work! "Salut" from Romania!
Streten regarding your check engine light, when you were showing off the second engine you could see a broken off vacuum line on the right hand bank turbo @14:15 dont know if you fixed that before putting the engine back in the car
Hey if that is a bosch HPFP you may be able to remove that connector and replace it, if you research the B58 “TU” HPFP upgrade for gen1 B58 engines you’ll see when they went to the TU engine they rotated the connector such that the harness is difficult to plug in, the fix? Removing that connector and rotating it, hopefully you can make that work!
Man the fact that you always struggle to complete even the most challenging projects leaves me astonished every time. I really hope that this engine will survive the stress test. In any case you have now a ton of used part that you can sell and return at least a part of the money you put in this project.
Last week I found about you from The Carmudgeon Show. Last night I lowsided my motorcycle in the mountains not wearing nearly enough gear and separated my left shoulder. This video is just what I needed. Best of luck to you sir!

In case you ever start looking for one that is old and neglected (like the projects) give me a buzz. What a gem this channel is. Cheers, Sreten. Good luck with the Mad Pinocchio mobile!
I think this time you've been more affectionate, and the car gods will reward you... with a Porsche. We're all waiting for a conversation between two Maserati engineers about the design of the wiring harness and the peculiar oil pump situation
That engine would only be of use to someone who had another broken chicken in a stand. It would have cost way to much to replace the harness and all components etc. Nice work man 👌

So glad you stuck with it mate. I have really enjoyed this series. Don't let the poor views dissuade you from trying new things! well done and keep up the new content :)
So so happy you got your hand on that almost new engine...However, that oil pressure and those fault codes always give me cold sweats....I can't imagine the stress you are under when driving that car with it's blowing up history: in 1999 (I was 22) I built a Renault 9 GTD engine from the ground up that started leaking after only 5000 kms and I thought that that was catastrophic, but when a Maserati engine blows up after only a few kilometers, that definitely takes the golden award for unerliability.....This engine sounds very healthy though and that reassured me and I hope that your Quattroporte gets finally sorted out so you can enjoy it fully on the Autobahn! Sreten, you are a "one of a kind" mechanic and you 100% deserve all the success you get and then some...! We LOVE your content and wish you just the best in your adventures and in life in general! Thanks for the quality entertainment, buddy! As an Anglo-Pole, I apologise if you've been scammed - you can't be sure, sadly. Fingers crossed for success ❤
man, I'm Czech person and generally dealing with polish sellers is much better then with czech sellers, definitely would not expect to buy working engine in czechia, in poland it is 50/50. And then if you are honest seller in CZ, everyone threats you as scammer by default. Which is understandable. But in general this "culture" of dishonesty is case in western world.
Thanks for finishing the job, its really bad when a car is just a money pit, especially when its a "new" experience and parts are so hard to find/expensive. Really admire your will and ethic on working.
I gotta say, I love your channel! I discovered it like 8 months ago or something, and I'm hooked on your videos. Whether you're working on BMWs or Maseratis, I get excited every time I see you've uploaded something new. Keep it up!
So glad you have the following to have the contacts to find this engine - I'm happy for you Agree with the oil comments - only bad oil is low oil, no oil or dirty oil
What a show! I was thinking that it would be great to see an episode and boom, you came in clutch. I got the notification and I got my snacks and watched all of it. What a treat. It’s good seeing the Maserati engine replacement going well, and I hope it keeps behaving. That is one beautiful-looking, low-mileage powertrain. You sure lucked out with the second try. Here’s hoping for the best in the testing/break-in period. Also, I can't wait to see Peoject Fresno in the next episode. It can't come soon enough. Take care of yourself, my friend.
One thing to watch out for is those strange error codes that might pop up. It could be worth checking the battery wire connections and giving them a good clean. Even if they look fine, any slight oxidation can trigger codes. Also, make sure the battery is super secure and doesn’t move at all. On my Alfa, I had a strap that didn’t hold the battery well, and it caused all sorts of codes because the cables are super sensitive to that for some reason. Hope this helps with any future troubleshooting!
You are an amazing guy and I hope this time the engine is going to last. I am impressed you persisted and did not give up on this car. The sound of the engine is sublime!
Try fixing something with a Busso engine to cleanse your palate of modern Italian engineering. And it sadly is all Italian. As much as I despise Stellantis crap, this has nothing to do with them, this was all OG Maserati in the early 2010s.
As kids we grow up loving Ferrrari’s. As adults we end up loving Lamborghini. Ferucio was right about them 60 years ago. I still dont know how they can build such a cheese engine for a supercar.
It still doesn't track that they deemed it good enough to use such low quality rotating and consumable parts on such an expensive, highly strung engine. Why cast stuff at all? And why such a weird oil pump? Most importantly, when S85/65 had bearing failure, it was due to clearance and oil viscosity issues, not cheap parts. Same with the oil pumps. It's like Stellantis gets the basics wrong intentionally.
wdym. it's a car from a company not made to last formed from companies not made to last which all made cars not made to last what's so hard to get about it :D but you know lanciatitis, peugeotitits, fiatitrauma, dodgesilitis and alfatitis combined make for one powerful selling tool still, you know you shouldn't mess with it but you'd still want to.
@@flavioc5389 Quite so. I will consider a design flaw that fails predictably to be better than a compromised design that fails unpredictably at any mileage due to poor engineering. That said, there is no indication that the 300k km on this engine is common, or even original. Any car will survive 300k of highway driving. The sad thing is, Maserati can make good engines. Great engines, even, if history is any indication. Stellantis accountants on the other hand...

LOL armchair mechanics claiming that liqui moly 5w-40 is so different from Shell 5w-40 it is fundamentally incompatible with a cast-iron block and would cause catastrophic engine failure.
what engine could you use liqui moly in if it was so? like if you couldn't use it because of that then what engine could you use it in? that's crazytalk. they'd need to have some sort of very tiny list of engines you could use liqui moly in if it did something magical cast iron surfaces or surfaces machined in cast iron.
Based on the latest results, you should start directly with installing the 2nd engine in your 'project' cars. This way you can speed up the restoration process. The amount of resilience you display is very encouraging. I don't know too many people that would have went towards a 2nd engine for this car. Great work!
Nice work Sreten, that engine is sure clean, hope that it turns out well for you, because you have put a lot of time, money, and plenty of heartache into this car.
Wishing you all the very best & keep the projects coming & channel alive
👍
It has 11,000km……and another 189,000 km also. Hope it all works! Love these videos.
trust us, we are not deceiving anyone. mistakes just happen))
Thanks for another calming and inspiring episode of Sreten fixes cars. I love the attention to detail and measured presentation. Top viewing for all petrolheads.
Hi Sreten, long time subscriber from Poland here. In the interest of the community please share the name of the scammers who tried to sell you that worn "11kkm" engine. If you can fall victim to such scam, anyone can - so It is critical that they get called out on their BS.
As much as that could help anyone, it doens't help Sreten in the slightliest, he could just get sued for difamation even if it's the truth, in situations like these is just better to keep your mouth shut, if it was on a forum or on social media, sure, blast them out! but here? nah.
@j.d.8593 or they pay him a visit, better not to call them out.
@j.d.8593 What defamation? Sreten can simply let us know where he received such great customer service 😉
well they returned him money and even pay for return shipping and probably would even for shipping if he used one they arranged.
Really glad you didn’t abandon this one!! Such terrible luck with the first engine but this one seems a peach!!
Streten regarding your check engine light, when you were showing off the second engine you could see a broken off vacuum line on the right hand bank turbo @14:15 dont know if you fixed that before putting the engine back in the car
That wiring harness would give me nightmares.. I am constantly amazed you remember where everything goes and the exact routing ;-)
He doesn't, the camera does.
Damn, sorry to hear that. Get well quickly!

I'm so glad that this one and the last one are getting more views as I feel like this Maserati series of videos is incredibly underrated.
If all those cars you fixed could talk they would call you Saint Sreten... So glad for you this Italian adventure turns out so well. What a beauty she is.
What. A. Legend!
If there is one thing all your videos have in common, it is your full commitment to solve existing issues in a cheerful manner.
I feel nothing but the deepest respect because of just one of many reasons I follow your channel.
It seems you need an apprentice.
I have zero experience but I know how to detail a car properly.
In case you ever start looking for one that is old and neglected (like the projects) give me a buzz.
What a gem this channel is.
Cheers, Sreten.
Good luck with the Mad Pinocchio mobile!
it‘s great that you help out „OG Schaefchen“ in the US 😊
14:15 that is your boost code issue if you haven’t caught that. The broken hose on the turbo. Best of luck on that motor!
After looking at those turbos I don't know how you would even think about anything except returning that thing
This engine sound is worth all the hustle, even for a 10 minute drive😂 Seriously - "money no object" 4 door - you can't get much better than this!
I think this time you've been more affectionate, and the car gods will reward you... with a Porsche. We're all waiting for a conversation between two Maserati engineers about the design of the wiring harness and the peculiar oil pump situation
ⁿ⁰
Sure thing.
*Proceeds to laugh in IMS bearing*
That engine would only be of use to someone who had another broken chicken in a stand. It would have cost way to much to replace the harness and all components etc. Nice work man 👌
I don't know why, but I'm happy that you found a good engine.
It's like, thanks to you, I restore cars without getting tired and without risk.
57:41 Nice it finally runs, let's hope it stays running!
The moment you realize its Friday eve, your favorite guy didnt post any content recently and you get that wth feeling. But you go to YT and the guy delivered again... 23 minutes ago. Keep on truckin man
So glad you stuck with it mate. I have really enjoyed this series. Don't let the poor views dissuade you from trying new things! well done and keep up the new content :)
you've got a lot of czech fans, believe me! Jarax is also well known guru here.
So great to see you did not give up on the QP... a fine Italian car saved... hopefully! 🤞
Imagine ordering all the cut off parts from Maserati 😂 great video as always
Also anxiouly waiting that you cross the 1M subscriber bar! Our love & support from Montreal, Canada
There was a time when i watched your videos to sleep, and it worked! Nowadays you keep me up late at night to watch an absurd Italian piece of excrement try to work.
I absolutely love you Sreten, i want to be like you
Great to see this beauty running again !!! great job !
But in general this "culture" of dishonesty is case in western world.
it's like that everywhere) as they say: there are two fools in the market - the seller and the buyer))
Keep it up!
So glad you have the following to have the contacts to find this engine - I'm happy for you
Agree with the oil comments - only bad oil is low oil, no oil or dirty oil
Nice to see the Maserati running again, and hopefully stays that way.🏆
I have never been so excited that you're excited about engine number two.
Your enthusiasm is addictive for sure
That's why I love your channel Sreten, never give up!!!!
love how the entire community of subscribers come together to make this happen
im so happy to see you smiling again, I have been thinking about your dilemma for a few weeks
So glad you stuck with it and didn’t cut your losses. Can’t wait to see the stress testing 👍👍
Excellent effort Sreten. Really hoping the test drive go perfect. Always a joy to watch your videos, filming quality is impeccable.
31:40 was the best advice ever. Everyone should know that!!!
Not the episode we expected, but the episode we needed
You have the patience of a saint.
I am impressed by your motivation, and after you were told once that everything is ok, you decided to do a full check of a healthy engine. super!
dude has ptsd from checking oil filters for metal shavings 😅
One thing to watch out for is those strange error codes that might pop up. It could be worth checking the battery wire connections and giving them a good clean. Even if they look fine, any slight oxidation can trigger codes. Also, make sure the battery is super secure and doesn’t move at all. On my Alfa, I had a strap that didn’t hold the battery well, and it caused all sorts of codes because the cables are super sensitive to that for some reason. Hope this helps with any future troubleshooting!
Your a legend, you never let a car beat you 👏👏👏👏👏👏
You are an amazing guy and I hope this time the engine is going to last.
I think we will never see an Alfa Romeo in this channel, sadly.
@@mndx89 he was quite interested in them in that visit to an abandoned dealership, you never know.
I'm SO GLAD to see you managed to get a fresh engine for a low price, fully deserved!!
Can we please have mercedes or porsche on this channel. Both brands have huge fan following resulting in more views😊
Take a 500E then you have both
@@gelbesweissbrot that's actually smart 😉
Thank you for continuing to work on the Maserati. I've been enjoying the saga with its various ups and downs. :D
Could genuinely be low milage and crashed for a movie....but the film crew got the car cheap because it was a total lemon with a knackered engine.
Well done, I take my hat off to you for your tenacity & skill. I sincerely hope that you have no more issues.
As kids we grow up loving Ferrrari’s. As adults we end up loving Lamborghini. Ferucio was right about them 60 years ago. I still dont know how they can build such a cheese engine for a supercar.
Excellent result. Well done for sticking at it
It still doesn't track that they deemed it good enough to use such low quality rotating and consumable parts on such an expensive, highly strung engine. Why cast stuff at all? And why such a weird oil pump? Most importantly, when S85/65 had bearing failure, it was due to clearance and oil viscosity issues, not cheap parts. Same with the oil pumps. It's like Stellantis gets the basics wrong intentionally.
wdym. it's a car from a company not made to last formed from companies not made to last which all made cars not made to last what's so hard to get about it :D
but you know lanciatitis, peugeotitits, fiatitrauma, dodgesilitis and alfatitis combined make for one powerful selling tool still, you know you shouldn't mess with it but you'd still want to.
The S85/S65 had bearing failure with 80k-100k KMs because of an inherently design flaw. The Maserati engine was still going strong at 300k KM.
Bank holiday weekend in uk so i have many things to watch on a Sunday evening but had to watch M539 first. Still my fave channel. Brilliant as usual. Thanks Streten.
Oh man, you got scammed on that engine. Low mileage? yeah right...seems like an engine which was thoroughly abused! It's sad that few people and companies nowadays are serious in the business. They just want your money and sell you crap...
Grande Mecanico! What u have done here is not for everyone . Im sayng this as a mechanic my self and this job here for real one of the hard jobs ever . i will continuosly make compliments to you but doesnt make sense because i will not stop writing :) .only thing i can say is " mille volte bravo bravo bravo " Complimenti !!!
Please name and shame the company who lied to you about the engine being low mileage and good condition. Otherwise others risk falling foul of the same tricks.
PERFECTION is the word to describe this channel and you Sreten. I don't miss a single tightening of a screw.! LOVE IT ! The king of the torque wrench 👑
@@lasskinn474 Yeah but you're forgetting that keyboard warriors love to talk shit for no reason. Or they could just be trolls.
you should name and shame that useless engine company, for sending you a turd of an engine that looked like it was fu....ed.
Based on the latest results, you should start directly with installing the 2nd engine in your 'project' cars. This way you can speed up the restoration process. The amount of resilience you display is very encouraging. I don't know too many people that would have went towards a 2nd engine for this car. Great work!
Your positivity is off the scale! Great content. Looking forward to seeing how this car performs 🤞
I'm so happy for you Sreten! Thank you for not giving up!
Nice work Sreten, that engine is sure clean, hope that it turns out well for you, because you have put a lot of time, money, and plenty of heartache into this car. Anyone buying it down the road will have a new car in all reality, because you can see that the engine and transmission are barely broken in. I live in the mitten state over here in the US, looking forward to seeing what you will be working on. G-d bless you, your wife, and cute little mutsy.
Thankyou Streten, due to your sacrifice i won't be tempted to suffer the crippling financial pain of Maserati ownership...thankyou sir.
To get this Quatrofaulty up and running well will be a fitting tribute, as Maserati have announced that its no longer in production.
Another great video. Keep it up and on the edge of my seat for the US V10 goodness as is everyone.
Great job!!! Glad you managed to find an engine. Lower view count could be from summer- vacation season, so don't let that ruin your great mood for awesome content Sreten!!! Keep it up 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻🏋🏻🏋🏻🏋🏻
Just here to say that I love your videos and they are inspiring. I started working on my cars (of course starting from simple things)!
