In this episode of the JL Journal, you get to see Cindy and I install some of our very first mods on our Jeep JL Wrangler Rubicon Unlimited. Among other things, you'll get to see how to remove the Rubicon steel front bumper end caps to make it into a stubby, the installation of trademarked "JLWRANGLER.com" decals, the installation of an Amazon Basics rear seat pet cover and last but not least, the installation of a WAYALIFE personalized licenses plate. While none of these things are "mods" in the sense that they help improve the capabilities of our JL, they are modifications that help make it truly ours.
JL JOURNAL is a WAYALIFE Production with a focus on the all new Jeep JL Wrangler. This UA-cam video series will highlight every aspect of our Jeep JL Wrangler and of course, all the adventures that it takes us on. We hope that you'll follow us along on our journey.
Nice video. Beautiful jeep. Beautiful dog. Appreciate no excessive talking, no music, no drinking whiskey and pure action.
LOL!! Well, for our home movies highlighting our adventures, we do still prefer to talk through it, use music and we are drinkers so, you'll still see all that in them but, this is just a video "journal".
I’ve never seen that method of installing stickers, but I really really like it. I’ll for sure be using it in the future.
I know most people like to use the windex or application fluid method and others just pop them on but I like doing it this way as it always ensures a perfect look.
Yea I really liked the way he did that gonna copy his method too.
Yeah. this is how you do it for larger window signs, and also large wall vinyl art. It just makes sense to do it on smaller ones as well.
Neither have I. Now my crooked/off-center stickers just glare at me.
I thought about taking my end caps off too but was concerned the stock 33's would not compliment it. I was wrong! it does look pretty dam good!
LOL - awesome :)
Agree on the pet-cover: this is the first Wrangler that has an interior finally relevant in the 21st century.
thats the best part of owning a jeep, so many ways to make it your own. Great looking jeep!
Thank you :)
I love your job. Congrats on the purchase. Now I want one. That cover in the back sit is great. When I purchase my Jeep, I’m going to buy it to protect the sits. Make it last longer.
Thanks! Glad to hear our video was helpful to you :)
Love the decals they look awesome and making it your own is even better. I can’t wait to see the finished product this Jeep is going to look amazing and perform like a boss.
Thanks! Glad to hear you're liking everything :)
What letter front and lettering you use for the jl wrangler I am trying to copy that for my hood
I went and test drove a JL Rubicon this afternoon. I was very impressed. Much nicer feel than my 2013 JKU Sport. And that new 8 speed trans is really nice. As soon as the Mojito and Punk’n are available I may be selling my JKU and my CJ7.
LOL!! I agree that the JL Rubicon is way nicer than our 2012 JKU Rubicon. The new 8-speed transmission is super nice too. Love the Mojito for sure.
I’ll be sticking around to watch you build this JL. Can’t wait to see how extreme you go, or not.
We'll take it slow just as we did with our 2007 JK but eventually, it'll be up there too.
The Sticker looks very cool. Nice! But the short bumper is not the right thing. The factory bumper looks very tough, much more better as the factory bumper of the JK.
To each their own. While I would agree that the full width factory bumper "looks" nice, it is a hindrance on the rocks. With the ends removed, you can nose your tires right up to larger obstacles.
Can’t wait to see what you guys have in the future for the JL! Love the videos
Awesome, we'll be showing mods soon.
One small step...nice work. Looking forward to seeing where you takes us with your JL.
Thanks! Clearly, you know there is more to come :)
That pet cover looks like an apron...a seat apron!
Love the videos and seeing all the quality of life changes Jeep made to the JL!
LOL!! Now that's one way of looking at it. I like it :)
Love it! Taking the bumper end caps off really changes the look. Well done.
Thank you, it definitely changes the look and helps you to nose your tires right up to obstacles.
I hope Jeep knows that JLWrangler.com is going to sell a lot of Jeeps for them. Love the videos and enjoy learning about the new JL, keep them coming.
LOL!! We really do appreciate that you'd say as much. Cindy and I are friends with the engineers at Jeep but I don't think the guys in charge of marketing know we even exist.
P.H. always a fun place to wheel can't wait to see more of the JL
Going to need to grab some of these decals
Awesome!
Wayalife you guys need to do JL in red and wrangler with the white lettering for the window stickers. Make it happen 😂🤣 then I’m pulling the trigger on the decals.
LOL!! I might be able to do that but doing 2-colors is tough or at least, to do right.
Wayalife I checked and didn’t see the side window stickers you guys plan on selling those too?
Look under "fender" decals.
Love the new JL can’t wait to see where you take it. 👍🏻 hopefully one day we can meet and hit up a trail near Nevada
That would be awesome :)
I just bought 2 of your JL stickers… Cant wait to put them on my Jeep!
Awesome, thank you :)
The process starts...👍🏻
Let the madness begin! 👏
LOL! Indeed :)
Can't wait to see this JL becoming like Moby :)
LOL!! It'll happen.
The decals look really nice!
Thank you :)
Thanks for that. I appreciate your insight and will totally reconsider the 4door. BTW, I have watched that video a day or so before and commented on it. Those JKs are awesome. Color me envious.
LOL! Glad you enjoyed it.
Thanks again Eddy. As you said, nothing earth shattering.... but still cool. :)
LOL! As the name of this series states, it's a "journal" and we intend to cover everything we do with this JL - the exciting and mundane alike. Glad you still liked what you saw :)
keep it up :)
Love it, so cool nothing like making it your own sweet !!!!!
Thank you :)
If you were ever looking for another day job....sticker installer would be one that you would ace...nice work. :)
LOL!! I'm glad to hear I might be employable in a different profession :)
Love the JL content - nice ride
Thank you, we're so glad to hear you're liking our videos :)
Great video, love the new addition :)
Thank you, we're glad to hear it.
Great video...where can I get that black-on-red Jeep badge above the "Wrangler Unlimited?"
Again, because of this video, we are going to remove our bumper ends. It does look better. Makes the front look tighter, yet more aggressive. Be well.
Awesome :)
Cool video brother keep up the good work
Thank you, will do :)
Nice video removing the steel bumper end cap. Are there some piece to cover the space back the bumper new ends when you remove the end cap?.
There isn't and really, there's no need for it.
Sweet Decals
Thanks! Glad to hear you like them :)
The front looks way better without those end caps.
We agree!
Sticker master!
LOL! Long time no see Frank. Good to have you around again.
thanks....great video
You bet :)
I love the Way you talk and the content !!
LOL!! I'm flattered, thank you.
Looks great!
Thank you
Just got to say i am loving your content. I Just bought my first ever wrangler, it is a JL Rubicon. This is all new to me, and your videos are helpful.
I would really like to sport your JL logo. I got mine in black and i am a little worried that the “J” will not show. Any advice? Thanks
Awesome thanks
You bet!
I just removed my end caps of jl 2 door with 1000 miles and it is scratched underneath .
Any suggestions . Thanks
Keep up the great videos !! I also am one owner jeep yj same color blue as yours. Mines a 1992 117 k miles. . 👍
I guess it depends on how bad the scratches are. If they're really bad, some touch up paint will do the trick.
@@wayalife
Thanks man
Keep up the great videos
I was wondering if you guys have decided on how far to take the build for the JL.? I was thinking you might want to consider building more of an Overlanding Jeep, seeing that you already have 2 rockcrawlers. Something to think about, but that's my 2 cents. awesome job on the videos.
As crazy as it may sound to you, we consider our 2 other JK's to be overlanding Jeeps that just happen to be able to rock crawl as well.
LOL. Your to much, that's funny. But I'm completely ok with that too.
So it begins............ Since I’m new to the channel I was wondering why you went with 4door vs the 2door.
We have owned a TJ in the past and even a 2-door JK. We still own a CJ5 and a CJ3B. When it comes to wheeling, we have found that 4-doors are superior on the rocks and on the kind of trails we like to run. Of course, we do a lot of camping and a 4-door allows us to carry a lot more gear.
Wayalife OK, that’s good to know. Since I’ve only owned a XJ, I always thought the longer wheelbase was worse for approach, brakeover and departure angles, making the 2door superior. It’s always nice to hear someone who has experience in both. Thanks and keep them coming!
I've owned an XJ as well, in fact, my son still has it and what I can tell you is that things are quite different in a Wrangler. Approach and departure angles are much better and break over can be addressed with bigger tires. With just 35's or if you can swing it, 37's, you'll be amazed at what you can do in a 4-door. If you haven't seen it already, give this video of ours a watch. ua-cam.com/video/NsfZlyGNcyI/v-deo.html
love the videos... i'm building out my JT right now.. may I ask what company are you using for the decals? I need to make my own custom ones but I am not happy with the quality im getting from my local vendors and I see yours look top quality. Hoping for a referral. Thanks !
Eddy, I have seen you in videos riding with your dog in the back without doors. Do you have a harness for her?
Yes. It is a big part of why we wanted a seat cover that had opening for the seat belts.
My heart dropped at 4:20. Lmao
What do you think about the rear bumper license plate placement? Aftermarket gonna be limited people are probably gonna have to put there plates on the tire if they want to buy aftermarket rear bumpers. Love the Rubi hard rock front bumpers gonna need to buy one for my JK
It's not the ideal place for the rear license plate. I have a feeling there will be aftermarket options to relocate it to the spare. In fact, I'm pretty sure Mopar already has a setup for it.
Nice stickers ,,,
Thanks! Glad you like them :)
Besides looks, is there any function that the front bumper caps serve? If I had one of those bumpers I think I'd pull them off as soon as I got the Jeep home and never put them back on.
I'm sure they'd help protect the fenders but that's about it.
Love the stickers, but dam, need that copyright R off tho..
Sorry, worked hard and paid good money to trademark our logo. They are easy to remove though.
man. i am looking at trading my 16 diesel Colorado z71 4x4 with 53k miles on it in on a new zr2 but i really am liking this jeep a lot. New stickers really make it nice and i agree making stubby bumper. I live in Okla. and i commute to work 40 miles one way daily and put on a lot of miles and wondering what you think of the new JL ride quality to be a good hyw truck and in town running around truck? I haven't test drove one but sat in a Rubicon at dealer and loved the sets and interior. The JK i test drove couple years ago was loud and rougher than i liked.
Coming from a guy who's owned 4 JK's and still own 2, I can tell you that the JL is a HUGE improvement over it. Ride quality and comfort is significantly better and if you get it with a hard top, it's super quite as well. Add in the optional headliner and it's even more quite. For a Wrangler, MPG is pretty good as well. 18-23 I believe.
that is perfect, I thought for sure hard top and liner . mpg looks good.
What's the plan for Jet Lee? 40's 37's?
Stock for now but 37's in the near future... possibly 40's by the end of the year.
I’m guessing the renegade was sent out to pasture in favor of the JLUR?
LOL!! We liked the Renegade and would have kept it but there's really no aftermarket for it and we found that we never drove it. For us, it only made sense to sell it and make room for the JL.
I would love to get me some JL stickers
STEEEKERS!!
@wayalife. Do you plan on keeping the stock metal bumpers and installing a winch or replacing them?
We really love the steel front bumper but the rear is a bit big and in the way. At some point and time, we'll probably test out other bumpers but will most likely keep the factory just in case we want to go back. Winch is in the works for sure.
Would this be good daily driver to commute 40 miles one way. I love it
For cool factor, yes. For comfort, sure. For MPG, I don't know.
Thanks. I do not care a lot about mpg.
As long as it is comfortable! I love the new interior. Also if I do get one I'd like to get those decals they look great.
What kind of wrench did you use to take the bumpers off?
Gearwrench
Do you have a link to the rear seat pet cover you used?
Here you go: amzn.to/2HiQGl6
Cute doggie obtained a cozy place!
Tessa says thank you :)
Could you please link to the amazon rear seat cover, or provide the product name or brand? I have a 2 and 4 year old and I'm getting my JL this month.
Sure, this is what we bought: amzn.to/2sncdX4
Wayalife thanks... That'll hold me over until there is something more custom fitting.
Is there a link for the backseat cover? Thanks
You can order one here: amzn.to/2zAy5Sa
Did that seat cover live up to your expectations? My JL is on order and my blond lad is a mess but he loves car rides.
Where did you get the decals made ?
We sell them here: www.wayalife.com/store/categories.php?cat=8
Those bumber ends needed way more bolts to hold them on! lol
LOL!! Seriously :)
Can the dogs not go in the back?
I'm sure you can put yours in the back but we prefer ours closer to us :)
Came to see info about steel bumpers, ended up skipping the first 1/3 of the video about stickers... Title mentions nothing about stickers...
Skip to 3:29 for the actual bumper info.
Eddie do you know if you can run 35s on the stock Rubicon wheel with a 2 inch lift?
YES, you can. You can even run 35's without ANY lift but you will have some rubbing at a full flex. 2" will clear them no problem.
That's awesome that's a savings over my jk and still run the OEM wheels.
FYI, All your recent videos have a high-pitch squeal on the audio track that make them almost unwatchable on headphones
LOL!! Yeah, I know my voice isn't the most appealing thing to listen to but I don't think I can change that.
Not sure if you're joking, but I mean an actual high frequency tone that occasionally changes pitch. It's got to either be a problem with your camera or something that's getting added in editing. Might be able to band-pass filter it out when editing if it's the camera.
LOL!! Sorry, thought you were being a troll. I can't seem to hear what you're talking about. We literally have tens of thousands of people who've watched our videos and NOBODY has ever mentioned the tone you are speaking of. Perhaps it's your headphones?
Highly doubt it as I listen to stuff hours a day and it's just your videos, you might need nice headphones to hear it, don't know. Just tried on two high end headphones on my PC through two separate amplifiers and also plugged a pair directly into my cell phone and it was present in all cases. Should be able to hear it on a nice set of speakers too I imagine.
Want to sell that Rubicon bumper?
Your dog exudes a spectacularly innate charm.
Tessa says thanks!
I don't think anyone would have known it was a jl if you hadn't put so many jl decals on it 🙄
LOL!! Right, because nobody would know this was a Jeep if it didn't have a "Jeep" emblem on the side of it. Since you seemed to have missed it, you are watching the "JL JOURNAL" and our website for it is www.JLWRANGLER.com. The trademarked "JL" logo you see was designed for it. As hard as it clearly is for you to get your head around - we're PROMOTING OURSELVES.
It needs better fender flares
Well, "better" is subjective and if there's something you'd prefer, you should make sure to install them on your JL :)
I am waiting for Metalcloak to make some for the new JL
Clearly, to each their own. For us, we've never been a fan of MetalCloak fenders.
Nice it looked naked without them.🖒
Thanks! We agree, looked naked without them :)
Really stickers ??? .as if people don't know you drive wranglers.
They're decals that advertise our website, JLWRANGLER.com. The JL logo is trademarked and belongs to us as well. Sorry that they've offend you as much as they apparently have.
Wayalife lol dude chill, is just my opinion Sticker are just childish but cool Jeep
josorzo11 LOL - chill dude, I simply responded to your QUESTION (hence, your ???), factually and even took the time to apologize for my decals getting your panties in a bunch. No need to be so childish about all this. Peace.
Josorzo11 you call it childish but Even the stock jeep comes with a lot of stickers already if you Haven’t noticed
Nice job man👍
Thanks :)
